Ennis closes the distance between them until he is standing inches away from Jack.  He moves his face close to Jack's face until they are nose to nose.  Ennis looks Jack straight in the eye.

Ennis is very angry and speaks slowly through clenched teeth:  I've got to say this to you one time, JACK F*CKIN TWIST, and I ain't foolin'.  What I don't know...all them THINGS I don't know...could get you killed if I should come to know them.

Ennis spits on the ground, turns his back on Jack and starts walking away.

Jack replies angrily:  Yeah, well try this one...and I'll say it just once..

Ennis turns around and says:  Go ahead!

Jack with bitterness in his voice:  Tell you what...we coulda had a good life together, a f***in real good life...had us a place of our own...but you didn't want it, Ennis!

Jack: (continues with an accusatory voice...his back to Ennis)

Everything's built on that! That's all we got, boy, fu**in' all. So I hope you know that, even if you don't never know the rest!

Ennis walks away from Jack towards  the truck, shakes his head with anger..

In Annie's words and Ang's pictures

What Jack remembered and craved in a way he could neither help nor
understand was the time that distant summer on Brokeback when Ennis had come
up behind him and pulled him close, the silent embrace satisfying some
shared and sexless hunger.

They had stood that way for a long time in front of the fire, its
burning tossing ruddy chunks of light, the shadow of their bodies a single
column against the rock. The minutes ticked by from the round watch in
Ennis's pocket, from the sticks in the fire settling into coals. Stars bit
through the wavy heat layers above the fire. Ennis's breath came slow and
quiet, he hummed, rocked a little in the sparklight, and Jack leaned against
the steady heartbeat, the vibrations of the humming like faint electricity
and, standing, he fell into sleep that was not sleep but something else
drowsy and tranced until Ennis, dredging up a rusty but still usable phrase
from the childhood time before his mother died, said, "Time to hit the hay,
cowboy. I got a go. Come on, you're sleepin on your feet like a horse,"
and gave Jack a shake, a push, and went off in the darkness. Jack heard his
spurs tremble as he mounted, the words "See you tomorrow," and the horse's
shuddering snort, grind of hoof on stone.

Later, that dozy embrace solidified in his memory as the single
moment of artless, charmed happiness in their separate and difficult lives.
Nothing marred it, even the knowledge that Ennis would not then embrace him
face to face because he did not want to see or feel that it was Jack he
held. And maybe, he thought, they'd never got much farther than that.
Let be, let be.

We see Ennis drive off and Jack watches him go...

New scene.  At the Greyhound bus station at Riverton.  Ennis sits alone in the cafeteria, eating apple pie.  Cassie comes in with Carl and spies Ennis.

Cassie (to Carl):  Excuse me...

Cassie approaches Ennis.

Cassie (To Ennis):  Hey... Ennis Del Mar...  Where you been?

-Ennis(without any enthusiasm) :Here and there.

-Cassie :I left word for you with Steve at the ranch. And you must've got those notes I left at your place.

-Ennis(looking at Carl) :Looks like I got the message, in any case.

-Cassie(turns her head to look also Carl):Carl? Yeah, Carl's nice. He even talks.

Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

-Cassie :Ennis, girls don't fall in love with fun!...

New scene:  Outside view of Riverton Post Office

Ennis walks at a casual slow pace out of the post office.  He has a pile of mail in his hand. He removes the rubber band from around the mail and begins to sort through the mail.

He separates one piece of mail from the pile.  It is a postcard with his handwriting on it. It is the postcard he sent to Jack saying that November still looked like the first chance he would be able to meet him again.  Ennis turns the postcard over and suddenly STOPS WALKING in the middle of the street and just stands there staring at the postcard in his hand.

Stamped on the front of the postcard across Jack's address is one word: DECEASED

-Lureen(talking as if she was reciting by heart, even with a certain coldness):Oh, yeah. Jack was pumpin' up a flat on the truck out on the back road, when the tire blew up. The rim of the tire slammed into his face, broke his nose and jaw and knocked him unconscious on his back. By the time somebody come along, he'd drowned on his own blood. He was only 39 years old.

Ennis is in a phone booth, but we see what his is thinking.  In his mind's eye, Ennis sees Jack being beaten by three men using tire irons.

There is a long silence, which Lureen breaks:  Hello?

Ennis (slowly becoming aware of where he is):  He buried down there?

LUREEN:
We put a stone up. He was cremated like he wanted. Half his ashes was interred here, the rest was sent up with his folks. He used to say he wanted his ashes scattered on Brokeback Mountain, but, I wasn’t sure where that was. I thought Brokeback Mountain might be around where he grew up. Knowin’ Jack it might be some pretend place, where bluebirds sing and there’s a whiskey spring.

ENNIS: (flinches when he hears the words, can barely speak)
No ma’am, we . . . . we wus herdin’ sheep on Brokeback one summer, back in ’63.

Lureen emits a small gasp, eyes well up when she hears the story, realizes the connection with this man.

New scene: Lighting Flat, Wyo. Midday. Ennis' old pickup truck arrives at the little barren white farmhouse. Ennis gets out, looks around. Jack's ma looks out the door window, then comes out onto to the porch stands alone welcoming Ennis. Scene moves indoors, we see Ennis sitting quietly with old man Twist in a starkly whitewashed interior. From the kitchen ma' Twist asks:

Ma' Twist: Want a cup a' coffee don't ya, piece of cherry cake?

Ennis: Yes ma'am, I'll have a cup of coffee, but, I can't eat no cake just now.

Jack's mother goes back to the kitchen to get the coffee.

Ennis:  I feel awful bad about Jack...(Jack's mother sets cup of coffee on a table and remains standing near Ennis)...thank you....Ennis continues: I can't begin to tell you how bad I feel.  I knew him a long time.  I come by to say that if you want me to take his ashes up there on Brokeback...like his wife said he wanted to...then I'd be happy to.

(Ennis is so devastated and looks like 10 years older...that's so heartbreaking  :\'()

Jack's father hardly looks at Ennis while he's talking. With a depictful glance,he spits on the cup and begins to talk too:

John Twist :I'll tell you what. I know where Brokeback Mountain is. Thought he was too goddamn special to be buried in the family plot. Jack used to say..."Ennis del Mar", he used to say. "I'm gonna bring him up here one of these days and we'll lick this damn ranch into shape."(In this point,Ennis smiles slightly).
He had some half-baked notion the two of you was gonna move up here, build a cabin, help run the place. Then, this spring, he got another fella gonna come up here with him. Build the place, help run the ranch. Some ranch neighbor of his from down in Texas.(We can see Ennis face changing to surprise, sorrow and anger).
Gonna split up with his wife and come back here...so he says. But, like most of Jack's ideas, never come to pass.

Jack's Ma, possibly sensing Ennis' deep emotions, seems to try and comfort him, puts her hand on his shoulder, squeezes ever so gently, and says:

I kept his room like it was when he was a boy, I think he appreciated that. You are welcome to go up to his room, if you want.

Ennis, struggling to talk, to get some kind of words out of his mouth, looks at her with sadness in his eyes, and says in almost a whisper: Yeah, I'd like that, thank you.

He begins the journey up the stark white stairs to Jack's boyhood room.

New scene.  We see Ennis reach the second floor.  The glint of tears (if not tears themselves) can be seen in his eyes/face.

He turns to enter Jack's room...
