OK Brokies, here're some pics I captured from the FS and WS versions, and as you can see, the FS version shows a lot more and the truncation on the sides are mostly trivial, so I would say, GO GET A FS VERSION even if you have the WS version!

OMG OMG OMG :o :o :o :o :o :o

I have to have the Fullscreen, and i have to have it NOW !! And of course the R1 DVD player  :P
The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Ah, jeez....I have the multiregion dvd player so there's really nothing stopping me getting the fullscreen version from the US...and this photo is telling me I should...

Only downside is the widescreen tv that we have - so the screen wouldn't be filled properly...

One question - Is the one we saw in the movie theatre widescreen or full screen?

Thanks, dirtbiker. I have both versions. How did I miss that after 8 viewings in the theatres? I guess I was too sad to notice.

Thanks Dirtbiker! I bought the FS last week. I haven't watched that one all the way through yet.

I never thought I'd say this, but in the past, I would always insist on getting the widescreen or letterbox version of a movie, but this FS version of BBM has made me rethink that there's probably a lot I'm missing when I do watch the WS version of movies...  But I think there is a difference between the "Full-Frame" version vs. "Pan-And-Scan", the former includes missing footage vs. the latter being "panned" and "scanned" with a 4:3 ratio window on a widescreen/letterbox material.  I will have to pay more attention to those descriptions in the future  ;D  ;D  ;D

I don't understand that, though. Those fs caps aren't even shaped like a tv screen.

I don't understand what you mean bram.  The screencap on the right is the 4:3 format captured from the FS version and the one on the left is captured from the WS version of the DVD.

I bought both versions the day it came out and keep one in each DVD player for my "spur of the moment" viewing pleasure, LOL. One thing I noticed right away is in the SNIT scene, when Jack is kissing Ennis for the first time in the full screen edition you can see Ennis' hand at the bottom of the screen and it kinda looks like he is holding it up like he wants to push Jack away or like a "Whoa, wait" kind of gesture but, of course, gives in to his heart's desire. You can't see that in the WS version. Also, in that same scene, you can see, once they lay down that Ennis is pulling at Jack's side, or at least that is how it looks to me, to initiate Jack laying Ennis down and rolling over to kiss him. You don't see that as well on the WS either. Just some observations. (I'm posting on here alot more than I thought I would  ;D  )

I think it looks like that too...

Never thought I'd say this in a million years but YEY for FS lol

Thanks, Dirtbiker, for proving my point about the beauty of the fullscreen DVD.  I love the fact that the pictures are closer up.  I don't think anything really important is missed.  Maybe, it is on the mountain scenes, but the action scenes come through closer and in better details.  Thanks amillion for the comparisons.
