XWing:
Went to see BBM again Friday night. My other half didn't feel like going, so he still has not seen it, but I just couldn't stay away. (We both have the day off tomorrow, so guess what I'm going to make sure we do?) The theatre was quite crowded for such a late show (it didn't get out until after 1:00 AM). This time I was able to look at the background staff a little more. I was surprised to find that there were three props in the movie that I either own or have owned in the past:
1) When Ennis is rushing out the door to go on a "fishing trip" with Jack, Alma points out that he has left behind his tackle box (a steel box painted kind of a turquoise color). I have that same tackle box; I keep my electrical tools in it.
2) When we see Thanksgiving with Jack and Lureen, they have the same Amana RadarRange microwave oven that I had when I was in college. Huge chrome-plated thing that weighed a ton.
3) Near the end of the movie, when Ennis' daughter comes to tell him that she's getting married, she is drinking from an orange Corelle coffee mug. We have that same set of dishes, though we don't use them any more.
I admit I've kind of gone off the deep end about this movie. I've purchased the book that contains the original short story; a book that contains the original story, the screenplay, and comments from the authors; the soundtrack; and a full-sized movie-theatre poster (I have it framed and hanging in my office). I also spent several evenings putting together a DVD containing the trailer, the LOGO special, and a slide show of photos that I have passed out to co-workers to get them interested in the movie. My other half is sure I'm obsessed, and he's probably at least a little bit right. I'm sure I'll get over it fairly soon, but no doubt it will start up again when the DVD of the film is released (the expected date is sometime in May). It's really hard to get this thing out of my head!

XWing, thanks so much for sharing this. Like you, I suspect a lot of us make connections with a lot of the small details in this movie.
From you last paragraph, it seems that you have PBS. I think this is incurable. See the thread devoted to this virulent disease. ;)

What about the electric slicer?? My parents had the same one! It made me smile when I saw it! ;D

I agree! Who could miss that!? ;)
Everytime I saw the movie, the audience always laughs/chuckles during the slicer scene. Some vague familial memories, perhaps?
Apollonos:
That scene reminds me of Rocky Horror!
