Was that really always considered gay?  So didn't single guys get businesses together? Or like room together for financial reasons?
I guess no in homophobic Wyoming...  But I mean Hewlett and Packard spent a hell of a lot oftime in that garage making computers...alone...did people wonder?

I do recall back in my 20's (so the 80's) a friend of mine said she didn't want room mates anymore cause people think
you are gay...  not that I cared,but it struck me odd that was perhaps the case in hte 80's we had a recession-it as hard to live alone financially.

Well I have to say that when I shared a house with 3 other girls, some people at Uni just assumed we were lesbians...and that's just 6 years ago.
When some people met our boyfriends they changed their minds... ...I never understood it! When someone told us , we just laughed!

That is so funny.  You know as annoying as she is, sometimes I do tip my hat to Madonna for making it chic to be bi or appear bi.
Like I have a friend who used to worry people thougth she was 'gay" cause she didn't have a BF, adn I told her hey if anything it's a status thing now in come circles, not that it should have to be but you see my point.  Better than people not living conventional lifestyles to hide or marry someone they can't stand.

Toadily, I think what was considered suspicious was for two cowboys to make a home together -- not just run a ranch and be business partners.

From Jack's proposal and Ennis' response (incorporating the story of Earl and Rich), it was clear that what Jack had in mind was a complete life together -- without wives and children getting into the picture, except for occasional visits, perhaps.

I saw an interesting article posted on imdb regarding how two ranchers lived together and one of them losing everything when the other one died.  Even in this case when they were not bodily threatened, it is clear that in many places, the law of the land continues to leave such unions without any of the protections associated with a married/domestic partnership status.  One of them indeed retained custody of his children, but that was not enough to make the union impervious to the machinations of greedy relatives.

Although in better circumstances than what Jack and Ennis could ever have hoped for, the article illustrates the subtle 'inconveniences' that continue to plague same-sex unions/partnerships.

I think for Ennis "living together" doesn't mean just living together. In addition to worrying about he and Jack's love affair being discovered by others, the statement from Ennis also shows how insecure he is on his sexual orientation.

I thought it kind of funny that Jack didn't offer Ennis a ride after their infamous summer together.  Why?  Did he not want people to see them together at all?  That would have been more Ennislike.

I think right before they parted Jack was gauging Ennis's interest as to meeting again.  I think had Ennis made some remark that could be interpreted as interest or encouragement, the parting would have been a bit different.

In any case, it was probably not in Ennis's nature to accept offers from Jack.  And I think at that point, Jack knew this and was a bit cautious to not appear too 'interested.'

Well that point of view still in some places, when i decided to live with my three best friends on a appartment my whole community started talking undergrounds inventing that we were doing orgies, sex and drugs. One by one my friends left the appartment we lived there for a year until my bestfriend and i were the only one there. when we left to our parent's house defeated because our purpose was to be independents my fiancé told me that the whole people thought that Moses, Eli, Alberto and i were gay and we were living a gay life in the appartment. that pissed me off so much because none of us were gay (or at least i knew that until a month ago Eli came out after seeing you now what movie) i went straight to my dad and told him that he was unfair that even if i was gay and i was living with them it was my problem not the whole community. and i knew that it was my dad that started the gossip he never liked the idea of me leaving the house.

What an awful way for your dad to get you back home!  It is flattering that he wanted you so much, but to do that to you?  What did you do?

i just told him that i was upset and i didn't talk to him in three months i completely ignored him, he always was saying that he was trying to protect us from the word but i think that he is the one that is scare from the world, it is just that we have different points of view of life
