It sounds like you all are missing something here.  Ang Lee is a brilliant director.  He filmed a lot, cut some, and gave us the most wonderful movie he could.  If we see all the "bad" stuff he left out intentionally because it was just not right, it may spoil the movie for you. Taking a great movie and turning it into a mediocre one.

Not necessarily friend.  No deleted scene will ever have as much impact as the final theatrical release.
Knowing time constraints influenced what wound up on the floor makes me curious to find out if one or two more of those scenes were jems also.  Ang Lee and company were obviously on a roll with this film.  Were all of the deleted scenes scraps or the result of hard decisions being made.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I hope you are correct CSC.  I am one of those people who has always love those "how the movie was made" films.  I have always loved to watch the bloopers.  I might even like to see the scenes that were cut for one reason or another.  But, I saw a movie that is burned into my heart and mind and I do not think I want to see another version of it. That would be like looking at the Mona Lisa, except she is looking in the other direction and maybe with a frown.  Nope, they can show me the cut scenes and maybe narrate why they decided to shoot it in the first place and why it was cut, but I really have no interest in seeing a different Brokeback Mountain.

Nope, this is the one I love.

Now tell the truth... If there was a deleted scenes section in the SE DVD and that scene was included, you are going to resist watching that clip out of principle?   ::)  ;)

No, I would not resist dirtbiker.  I do not want the movie changed is all.  I said if they showed the scenes on the side, maybe with some explanation of why they were shot and then discarded I probably wouldn't mind seeing them.  But to issue a whole other movie with those scenes, no, I probably wouldn't be interested in seeing it.  BUT, only for this movie.  I have watched director's cuts of other movies just fine.  I love "Brokeback Mountain and am not interested in seeing it again, changed.

I can totally agree with you Patriot.  :)
Ang Lee is a genius and we should trust his good taste. It's his property, his work of art, his 'child' not ours. We should be grateful he did it and showed it to us.

Same here !
I have had other movies that included extra's, and it did not detract from the Director's cut for me.
There is the movie, and then the extra stuff.
Besides, if there is money to be made on it, Focus will put it out there !

I hope you're right Karen but I'm not so sure. There's been no talk of it and normally the special edition comes out at almost the same time as the normal one, doesn't it?

It sounds like you all are missing something here.  Ang Lee is a brilliant director.  He filmed a lot, cut some, and gave us the most wonderful movie he could.  If we see all the "bad" stuff he left out intentionally because it was just not right, it may spoil the movie for you. Taking a great movie and turning it into a mediocre one.

I agree -- why the movie is so brilliant, because of Ang Lee's less-is-more perspective.  I love it exactly as is (well...except I wish there'd been a sex scene when they were older...).

But, that's what's cool about DVD's, is getting to see some deleted scenes!  Ang Lee could choose a carefully selected few, and some funny bloopers, too.  Kind of not fair, in the DVD age, to not give us a little bit more extras. :c)

I didn't want to give the impression that I wanted a different version of BBM.  The final version is the one that gripped my heart.  However, I am too curious for my own good.  A special features section with the additional footage and related commentary would have really added to this DVD.  As happy as I am with the current DVD package, I will definitely buy a later version if a good portion of the deleted scenes are featured.

I like to think that if a deluxe version of the DVD were released, I would watch different parts/versions as the mood took me.  Feeling nostalgic or sad or in love, I would watch the original.  In a lighter mood, I might pursue deleted scenes, bloopers, and the like.  Not to say I would change anything about the original--I love it this way.  Would we have as much to talk about had Ang Lee included more?  After all, that's what fan fiction is for!   ;)

You say that the final scene used is true to Ennis's character.  Loving another man is not true to his character that we know of.  If we allow him to cry, we are allowed to see that he truly loved Jack and that the human part of him is alive and well.  Often things happen that make us behave in ways not expected.  He can no longer hold in the emotion.

Bring it on!!!

RH, this is a good observation, IMO.

I presonally preferred that they don't show Ennis crying openly.  But thinking about it now, a crying scene need not be hysterical.  A quiet stream of bitter tears is more eloquent than all the loud sobs or mournful wails in the world.  If shown as such a quiet scene of deep sadness, I think the film could have possibly gained -- and still be true to the nature of Ennis's character. Just my opinion.

I am just certain everyone involved would have made sure Ennis's crying was done totally beautifully in character...and I would have loved to see it.  Even like when he was retching in the alley, pounding the wall, etc., toward the end of that he let out one actual crying sob.  So Ennis has indeed cried; and in the closet, his eyes were already filled with tears, so he could have just let them roll down his face; he could have dropped down to the floor holding the shirts and buried his face in them, hidden his face from the camera, and we'd know he was crying, mourning his loss...  (Excuse me, I have to go wipe my tears away...)

Yes, I also believe that Heath wouldn't do it in a melodramatic, over-the-top kinda way... I'm sure that it was still subtle and faithful to Ennis's carachter. Heath knew Ennis and understood him, he got into his skin, he would'nt shoot a scene that was against his nature. I'm sure it was totally gut-wrenching.  :\'(

I agree, if Heath's acting is even half as good as it is in what we do see,or in the alleyway scene,as ksxks mentioned, then it deserves to be seen by the world, just so we can appreciate his talent.Denying us that is like when people buy priceless works of art, then lock them away in a vault, where no-one can see them or enjoy them :(
That said, I wouldn't want to see it as a new version of the film but as a deleted scene. I would happily pay for a new dvd just to see it :)

I'm sure you are right keren.  Knowing how much Heath became Ennis I can't imagine this scene was overdone.  I'd like to believe it was cut as a result of some hard choices Ang Lee had to make.  For me it doesn't have to become part of the film.  I will fall apart just watching it as a stand-alone scene. :\'(
