does it have any sepcial means for this scenes as under:

"Pair of deuces going nowhere" in Joe Aguirre's hand.

I think it refers to Jack & Ennis's relationship.

Their relationship has started, but is going nowhere. Ennis can only go so far and Jack is constantly hanging on, waiting for him but getting nowhere.

Deuce ( teo ones) is the lowest throw at dice, therefore presumably means "worth little" - Aguirre's implying that that's what they are, no future, no prospects. Ironically it's also what ennis says about himself in the last scene with Jack.

I knew what two dueces going nowhere meant, but I've never noticed the irony of Ennis saying that in his last meeting with Jack. Very interesting observation welshwitch.

I always thought that it was reference to poker...a pair in poker is two cards having the same number/face value (i.e., two 5's or two Kings). A pair of dueces (two 2's)  would be the lowest possible winning combination in a game of poker

So Joe Aguirre's thought of Ennis and Jack would be (A pair of dueces going nowhere)...two almost worthless young men with no future.

If you think of deuce as the throw of two ones, then he's saying that both ennis and Jack are as worthless as the least you can score - you can't throw less than two at dice. Actyally I think he's not thought that profoundly about it ( or indeed about anything) - he's just a nasty man who likes to belittle and score off people who can't talk back.

Whether poker or dice, the implication is quite clear.  It is a comment of disdain coming from Agguire...
