But once Ennis lets go and surrenders, it's sexier than hell that he pulls Jack on top of him, wanting to feel Jack completely on top of him and kiss him face to face.   Sigh and  :d).

I think you need to watch the movie again Stacp Ennis did not pull Jack on top of him, Jack rolled Ennis over and climbed on top of him.

Sorry to disagree, but Ennis most certainly pulls, slightly however,  Jack on top of him.  Look at Ennis's left hand go from Jack's chest to his Jack back to pull him.  Looks like Jack gets the hint and rolls on top.

Well, CherryCake, I am afraid I am going to have to disagree with you. In order for Ennis to have initiated the rollover he would have had to pull or push Jack's body in some way to give Jack the impression that is what Ennis wanted.  I offer 14 frames of that sequence as my evidence. You will notice that Ennis' left hand is along side of Jack's body but his fingers never touch Jack's back or anywhere else on his body to be in the position to pull Jack.  You will also notice that Ennis' thumb is sticking up. However if he had pulled Jack's arm with his thumb Jack's arm would show an impression where the thumb was to indicate the pulling motion. Flesh is soft after all. There is no impression.  Ennis' hand is simply along side Jack's body with his fingers not even touching the body. Jack simply pulls himself up and to his right rolling Ennis over. You will also notice that Jack has his right hand on Ennis' upper left arm to prevent Ennis from rolling over too fast or without him.

If Ennis had initiated the rollover by rolling himself backward, wouldn't he have had his left hand on Jack's back pulling him with him?  He doesn't. Ennis' fingers do not touch Jack's back.

I am an arm freak and Jack sure does show nice arm in the first 7 photos.  Oops!!  *o)

Thanks for those photos, Patriot, those are so nice, and yes, Jack has great arms.  But to get back to the topic. Watch RIGHT before your pics starts... Where Ennis has his hand Jacks face, then his hand wanders down to Jack's chest, then to Jack's back... look at Ennis's arm motion there... it looks like he is kinda rockin' his arms there, now that his hand is behind Jack and motioning Jack on top....
To me it looks like Ennis is pulling Jack on on.. not hard, mind you.. more like giving him a hint... it looks like that to me..

CherryCake, using the portion of film you indicate we can have an eternal debate.  I have watched it numerous times and I feel all Ennis is doing is rubbing Jack's side, I mean he is quite touchy feely here. But, we can not see what his hand is doing so...who knows. But I believe that Jack having his hand behind Ennis' left shoulder and his right hand holding Ennis' upper arm, this is indication that Jack was pulling himself up and to the right while holding on to Ennis so Ennis couldn't get away from him.

I guess we are going to have to leave this one at, whoever watches sees what they see.

I see Jack in full control and rolling Ennis over and climbing on top of him.

Hmmmmm...maybe you and I can reenact this scene and give a report on it later. ;) ;D

One of the reasons we all focus on this scene so intently is because it's rare to see, in a movie or elsewhere, two people actually falling in love in front of your eyes - and that's what happens here.

That is so true, welshwitch. We see from the look in Jack's eyes when Ennis first enters the tent that he's already there but Ennis's move from not being able to look Jack in the eyes, to glancing at him, to allowing Jack to touch his face (after initial hesitation) and finally to not pulling away the third time Jack tries to kiss him does, I think, show Ennis opening his heart to Jack and falling in love.

On the debate between Patriot1 and CherryCake, I think Ennis does pull Jack towards him, ever so slightly. After he carresses Jack's chest he rests his hand on Jack's side and he does seem to tug slightly, indicating to Jack what he wants. I really think that Jack would have waited longer if Ennis hadn't given him a sign that he was ready to deepen the intimacy further.

ROFL :8 We're not that bad, are we? ;)  ??? :-[

As for the whole debate about Ennis pulling Jack on to him/Jack rolling on top of Ennis, I've always thought it was the former. It's only a gentle pull, like CherryCake says, more of a hint, than a full blown come-on, but enough to let Jack know what he wanted. If Ennis didn't want Jack on top of him, surely he would have resisted, but he doesn't,and he doesn't just "allow" Jack to get on top of him, he's positively inviting him to, at least that's how it looks to me, the way he lies back, it's like saying "any way you want me, I'm yours" <^(

There was some open space between what he knew and what he tried to believe, but nothing could be done about it, and if you can't fix it you've got to stand it.

I doubt that it matters much anyway who did the pulling or pushing here, does it?  What does matter is that they were of one mind in this scene--they wanted to be together, to explore each other's bodies and learn the feel of one another's skin.  Obviously Ennis wanted to feel Jack's skin, as he's clutching and rubbing Jack's side--and Jack is worshipping Ennis's forehead, arms, lips, etc., with his tender caresses.  Perhaps Ennis tugged Jack toward him even as Jack was summoning his strength to climb over on top of Ennis.  I always thought Jack took the initiative here, but I find it incredibly touching--and hot!--to think of Ennis surrendering completely to the moment and bringing Jack over on top of him.  Bravo to both.   ^f^

Totally agree shieldmaid, couldnt have said it any better.  I am totally captivated by this scene every time, and to me, what is important is the fact that they are together, as they should be and as they want to be.  That is what matters to Ennis and Jack.  And to us.  I adore how Ennis allows to be taken over by Jack, to be lead into this beautiful situation.  He wanted Jack to be on top of him, how it happened is not the most important thing to concentrate on, imo.  Just watching them kiss and caress and touching each other is what I find so beautiful and magical about this scene.

To me, the sense of exploration rings so true for this scene.

This scene for me shows Ennis finally giving in to his desires.  He might now have been able to express them in words, but he said a mouthful with his lips.

One thing we definitly learn about Ennis in this scene, He likes kissin Jack. Sure nuff . Not only does he pull Jack over onto him, He Breathlessly says "comon" (been usin the trusty earphones again). Jack seemed to be waiting and letting Ennis "discover" him before diving in. Ennis pulled him over though. And how about raising up to meet Jack's kisses . THIS IS HOT! ...............OMG I'm melting.

That it does, aintfooling.  But I do wonder, how much of the horny-19- yea-r old-and-no- alternative-isolated-with- a- goodlooking-friend came into play with Ennis?  He definitely felt comfy with Jack. Maybe he wanted to experiment with someone available and found himself in love later?

A very good possibilty ,Ennis is still unsure at this point about his feelings, but he's learnin fast.He stuck a toe into the water, liked the feel and dived in. Still don't know yet if he ever thought of himself gay though. Maybe silently from within he did. Just couln'nt let go openly.

You're right! This is HOOOOOOTTTT!!!!  When Ennis enters the tent, he is walking all stooped over, almost as if someone or something is pulling him in towards Jack against his will, but he keeps on walking in.  Then, when he gets there, what a reward! I love this scene in the BBM music videos - one of my favorites is Hasta mi final. ( Just a plug for my fave!)

I think the kissing is the huge step here for Ennis. until now he could tell himself that it was just a drunken f**k, that he did it because he was horny and drunk and there were no women around... and therefore it meant nothing. But kissing Jack like that... he's really opening up to him, showing emotions, surrendering to his feelings, which makes it much more passionate than the FNIT.

And in this scene he's not drunk, and he hasn't been invited in, and he knows Jack is there waiting - this is all his own decision.

Yes, I think this is a very significant moment for Ennis. No one is leading him into something and, as you say welshwitch, there's no ready made excuse to hide behind - he could easily go back up to the sheep, but he stays because he wants to, because he wants Jack. The kissing thing is also very significant - far more intimate than what had happened in the FNIT, emotions laid bare with no way to hide his feelings because he's facing Jack. When they do kiss it seems to me that a weight is lifted off Ennis' shoulders because he realises that Jack wants the same things - touching, tenderness, intimacy - rather than just a repeat of their previous night.

You can equally say that it shows Jack that Ennis doesn't just want a quick f**k but something more meaningful and gentle.

One of my favorite moments is when Jack takes Ennis's hat and puts it aside. Ennis holds his hat in front of him like a shield, and when Jack takes it it's like he's removing Ennis's shield, leaving him bare and open...
