BBM Number One Debut on Wednesday in Paris

Brokeback was the number one attended film last night in Paris (all new films for the week always come out on Wednesday)

1ères séances : un "secret" partagé
 
Business - mercredi 18 janvier 2006
Le drame "Le Secret de Brokeback Mountain", réalisé par Ang lee, réalise le meilleur démarrage parisien de ce mercredi 18 janvier avec 2945 entrées, devant "Orgueil et préjugés" et "Pompoko".
 

·  1- Le Secret de Brokeback Mountain - 2945 tickets (24 copies)
·  2- Orgueil et préjugés - 1569 tickets (21 copies)
·  3- Pompoko - 1167 tickets (18 copies)
·  4- Un ticket pour l'espace - 1047 tickets (18 copies)

Hi !

I saw Brokeback Mountain Wednesday, and I live in Lorient, in Bretagne (near to South England). It is a little town, nevertheless, the theatre was fully and people said that it was fantastic !

My brother works in Paris and theatres were as fully. So I'm not very surprised that BBM was the number one attended film of the week in Paris...

Tomorrow I will see BBM once more, with friends, and will buy the novel by Annie Proulx, in french first...

Yeah, that's sooo good and cool !!

But.. I don't understand. I'm watching "L'hebdo du cinéma" on Canal Plus and there is the Box Office :

1er : "Un ticket pour l'espace" ==> 39 000 entrées.
2ème : "Brokeback Mountain" ==> 38 000 entrées.

*Sad*   I hope the next week. BBM 'll be the FIRST !!

En fait BBM est effectivement second du Box Office pour l'instant, mais diffusé à seulement 150 copies. Ce qui veut dire que la rentabilité par salle est trois fois supérieure à celle d'un Ticket pour l'Espace, étant donné qu'il n'y a que 1000 entrées d'écart !!!

Sinon moi je suis allé le voir dans un petit cinéma deux fois (Cinéville Lorient), et ils l'ont déplacé dans la deuxième plus grande salle Samedi soir. ;D Je compte bien le revoir Mercredi si il est toujours à l'affiche ! :)

Just so the "non French speakers" get it:

BBM is indeed 2# but the movie is only projected in 150 cinemas. The average per screening is 3 times higher than for "Un Ticket pour l'Espace" !!!
And the difference is of only 1000 seats !!! GO BBM GO !!!

Ghosted Angel's cinema has apparently moved BBM from a small screening room to the 2nd biggest room ;D

Just to be clearm I was talking about its debut day on Wednesday - for the DAILY box office (not hebdo...) in Paris (not all of FRANCE) Brokeback was #1

Just curious if your European friends cry as much in this movie.  I'm sure some of it is lost when you listen to the dubbed dialog or end up having to read subtitles.  There is so much slang in the movie that cannot be translated and part of the joy of watching the movie is just that...

You know, it is not that difficult to read the subtitles, at all. I think you just get used to it !  :)
It may be a problem when your english is very "rotten", or when you are too young to read fast...
I saw BBM once more Saturday, with two friends, but too bad, they didn't like Brokeback as I Did... :'( I don't care ! I will see it tomorrow with another friend... ;D
