Is the HD version then set for release with the "de-lux" edition in January?

Yes, as far as I can tell, it's being released on the same day as the collector's edition

I'm saying "yes" right now, but I might change my mind later.  I really hope it's worth it.

There are three things I want.

1. The missing scenes
2. BBM in High Deffinition (Posible soon if I can afford the technology to play it!)
3. The missing scenes in High Deffinition!

Go to the Universal Studios webpage for the special edition and you will see this:

BONUS MATERIALS:
Deleted Scenes
A Groundbreaking Success
Music from the Mountain
Reality on the Range

The "director's commentary" item was dropped from the Amazon description and it's not there at Universal, either, but Universal is now listing "deleted scenes."

Well this just gets more confusing by the minute. I guess we'll never know for sure until it is released. Thanks for the information, magnummark!

;D Carby. I'm also going to wait until it is released and I can go and see for myself what it says- there have been too many changes. The Brokies have spoken- let's see if they listened.

It looks hopefull. Fingers and toes crossed. Will this version also be in HD? Or will just the regualr version be released in HD on the same date. You see, I was thinking we could hire a HDTV & DVD player for the next European get-together.

I found this article on the Collectors' DVD that will be released on Jan. 23rd & thought it was interesting - doesn't say anything about "deleted" scenes though.  You can get a better price than what is quoted here - I ordered mine from amazon.com.

Aye, that's the version that playusa and cd-wow are showing details of too...looks like the "collectors" edition is actually the HD version, with the normal DVD version on it too (something called a "combi" version apparently)

So the new version will be in HD?  Fingers crossed - I just got a new HD TV!

Um, hate to burst your bubble boo_boo, but to play an HD-DVD disc, you need a player which costs $500-1000 at this time...   :-\\

Darn, darn, darn.   >:(  Wonder if I can beg my husband to go buy one? I did get to watch BBM on HD thru HBO though.  It was much clearer than the DVD.

Universal's website says it has deleted scenes so I'm hoping they are correct.

That's encouraging - deleted scenes - because the website that I posted didn't mention any.  I think we could gain some new insight about the movie by seeing the deleted scenes - or at least get a little more BBM.

This is true. HD as four times as many pixels. As your nose gets nearer to the screen you see ever more detal in the picture - not coloured dots of light. If you play your standard DVD on a HD TV you will not see any difference. HD DVDs are not compatable with reqular players. The BBM HD release has both systems - HD one side & regular the other.

As with all technology the price is dropping. Within a year the price of DVD players will halve. At some point we will all have it.

Early Biard mechanical TV had 50 lines, forties black and white TV 450, 60s colour 625 (the present TV standard) High definition is about 1200 lines.

They set the HD standard in tests where they just kept adding lines until yet more made no difference.

I have seen a HDTV in the shops showing a HDDVD. I love it.

The mountains in BBM will be breathtaking. The make-up and stick-on sideburns will look dreadfull.

I watched it on HD & you are right - the scenery is breathtakingly clear.  Sadly, you are right about the bad makeup being more noticeable.  I kept noticing the wrinkled skin around Ennis' eyes near the end & their sideburns.

I saw BBM at several cinemas. The ones I went to first had older projection systems and the whole film looked fine. But when I went to a cimema with a more advanced system (equivalent to HDTV) those silicone glued on wrinkles Ennis had were a real let down. You cnr really see the joins. Jack is generally filmed at more of a distance and fares better.

The blonde wigs Lureen wore were irritating too. Piles of nylon hair comming from and going to nowhere. I just told myself it was the 70's and wigs were in fassion.

These were the only things in the whole film that were not perfect. Why they did not digitally clean them up is beyond me.

No - I wish!  HBO showed it in high-def a few weeks back & I watched it and also recorded it.  It's much more detailed than the DVD I have.

This reminds me of the British Queen Mother when she was given a TV with a remote control for the first time in the 70's. She reportedly said "I think I'll still just ring the bell when I want to see a different channel!"

Ask your husband it you have BBM recorded in HD. If you do you are one of a very few at this time!

I asked my husband & he says yes, it is recorded in HD but it takes up a lot of space so we can't record a lot that way.  No way is my BBM getting deleted though!

As one of the few people on the planet who has a HD copy of BBM - and the technology to play it - you are very lucky indeed.
