If you haven't bought it before then I think it is probably a good value, but I have both the wide screen and full screen versions and was really looking forward to more significant extras.

Yeah, so was I, but.... :(

Such is life and the Hollywood money machine. Go figure. Pfffffffffffffftttttttttttttttt
There was some open space between what he knew and what he tried to believe, but nothing could be done about it, and if you can't fix it you've got to stand it.

Ennis, riding against the wind back to the sheep in the treacherous, drunken darken light, thought he'd never had such a good time, felt he could paw the white out of the moon.

Interesting articles -- thanks, Thomas.  Disappointing

I had ordered new edition from amazon.  Oh well, I paid about $19 for the post cards, then, and what, a half-hour or less of new stuff.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

As with Ethan, I have decided to get this edition.  I am buying it tomorrow, perhaps at Borders or Virgin (too bad my neighborhood Tower records closed -- it was a very nice place to browse!)

I got mine yesterday.  Expensive postcards but I do LOVE them!  I'll probably just keep this set all together & not use it until my old DVD breaks or wears out!

Good plan!   8)   We're so bad...and I thought I got over my "collectibles" thing with Star Trek.  Nope.   ^*()

So now I have three to view (one is very close to my computer at all times, and two -- FS and WS -- to view on TV) and one to "save."

Well after reading all the reviews it's pretty obvious that not many people are too impressed.  Yes it seems disappointing.  I was expecting more myself and will I buy it? Yes..cause I am a collector.  BBM merchandise is far and few between from what I've seen.  I will look for more future releases...I would be surprised if we didn't see a good deal more.  Look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy with all the releases.  Especially the extended version!  I believe someday we can look forward to something like that and knowing this can keep our interests and hopes high for a brighter BBM future! 8)

There are more missing scenes than that.

The hippies that got their VW van stuck in a river and got rescued by Jack & Ennis.

The present which jack gives to Ennis - a riffle. (Have a photos of that somewhere but can't find it right now)

The scene of Ennis and Jack together driving in a truck (See trailer)

Also - the garage scene is with Jack & Randall
And - The shirthless Jack on the pole-bridge was a tubby stand in. To make matters worse, a tubby Jack filmed on the pole bridge would mean a return to BBM! He was not fat when he was young!

On a side note where was this "hippie scene" pic from?  I've never heard of this before!  :s)

I picked up my copy of the Collector's Edition at Best Buy for $16.99 today. I still haven't opened
either of my two DVD copies of BBM (widescreen, fullscreen) that I bought last year - they are still wrapped in their plastic packaging. I think that I may take a look at my new Collector's Edition copy, though. Maybe one of those synchronized viewings will help me overcome my inertia... What a great idea... and something only BBM fans could understand...

I got mine in the mail yesterday.  Sometimes I'm a doofus when I order by mail when I could go and get it someplace and not pay S/H, but I didn't know I was going near anyplace or if it would be on the sale price of $16.99.  So there I was at Best Buy myself last night and as rpmnh said, it was $16.99 there.

Another odd BBM thing at Best Buy:  There were these paired DVD's for a lower price than two separately.  I wish I'd paid better attention (not a good reporter here) but the movie that BBM (the regular DVD) was with was something that looked like a light comedy girly-ish movie I'd not heard of, with no one in it that especially caught my eye.  I did think it was an odd pairing, whoever thought of that marketing idea.  They don't have to get "chick-flick" afficionados to watch BBM -- they could have put it with some other movie to get some other target audience to watch it.

What is the point of owning a DVD and never watching it? Life is too short for that sort of thing. Rip of the plastic and stick it in your player! What are you waitin for - the syncronised viewing call? Well yes, that is nice. You are not alone with a BBM sync-view, you know there are others watching too.

Watched the extras last night.  The music one was interesting.  The "groundbreaking success" was also mildly interesting, but I hated when those critics keep referring to "queer" this "queer" that.  Please... use the proper term when marketing to the masses!  >:(  I had to send back my HD-DVD combo package as the case had crushed and crumbled in shipment.  I can wait for the replacement as I haven't received my HD-DVD player yet.  Should be any day now though ;)

Got mine on the Jan 25th and watched all the new extras several times already.  Love the postcards.  The first extra (the one with the movie) is just under 17 min.  Interviews with different film critics on the success of the movie.  The second one is a short 2 min. still pics from the movie with the score BBM #1.  The third is 11 min. interview with Gustavo Santaolalla and other singers from the sound track.  I enjoyed seeing the extras, but they were just too short.

This is of course illegal. Up until now I have happily paid for everytghing to do with BBM, multiple cinema admissions, the DVD, the books and audio CD. In this case however, seeing this is such a rip-off, it will just serve the studios right if people do distribute these little extra bits illegally!

Give us what we want Focus! I would pay a lot for those cut scenes and would not dream of doing something illegal with them.

At Target I saw it, held and looked at it, put it back and walked away without a backward glance.  Of course I have a DVD and it is downloaded oh my computer and I'm making another video tape of it from HBO tonight.  It is wrong for them not to include some deleted scenes and perhaps outtakes, it is nasty wrong.

I suspect that the deletion of deleted scenes is a marketing ploy by Universal who will probably in another year or so release the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" with deleted scenes included - just to keep us buying.

Which of course I will!  I would like commentary too.  Jake/Heath/Ang - I don't care who, just someone.

I hope it is just that and not Ang Lee balking too much.  I would not buy this one, and it's 19.95 at Target...on the shelf now... but oh yeah, I'd buy one with deleted scenes.  I'd buy one that had even minutes, one or two minutes, of deleted scenes.  I know, I'm pitiful, lol, but it is mean being toyed with the way they are doing us, in my humble opinion.

I had suspected this.  Perhaps Ang Lee and the actors just wanted this behind them, or were just too busy with other commitments.  If this is true, then perhaps they will inevitably come around to making a commentary.
