Yes Twisted. The most beautiful. Timeless.
And also a little sad because we know what he is thinking. Ennis could not accept that it was Jack that he held, and maybe they had never gotten beyond that. Let be, let be. :\'(
Number one, thank you so much, twisted, for this beautiful little trip into the dozy embrace...
But number two, I have a different interpretation of this embrace. Even though A.P. indicated there was meaning to Ennis's embracing Jack from behind, symbolic of his being in denial about himself...sometimes an embrace from behind is just an embrace from behind. I happen to love them, getting and giving. Like spooning in bed -- it's very comfortable, too. Okay, so it's useful for the characterization in this story, but otherwise, I can just so easily see it would be the most natural thing in the world to happen -- Jack sleeping on his feet by the fire, and Ennis
would come up behind him. Not block off Jack's warmth from the fire, for instance. Now, Ennis could have turned him around and brought him into his arms, but instead he's doing like he would a sleeping child -- not disturbing him from his position. Anyway, blah-blah...but I love embraces from behind and I think it's sweet and comforting and real. He is being a strength for Jack to lean on. And anyway, Ennis pressing against Jack's butt -- what's not to like about that?
