I love all your answers.  I think i would jump into the scene after Jack drove the 1200 miles.
"Look," I'd say, "Ennis, don't treat him like that.  He drove all this way because he loves you.  And, you love him too.  You keep using him, it's killing him.  You care more than that.  Do you want him to go to some other man?  Do you want him to die?  No.  There is only one answer and one love for you, so be with him always, no matter what.  Denying your love and serving your fear is not the answer.  Love him.  Make him happy.  Don't abuse him.  You wouldn't like it if he did that to you.  Do you want him to whittle your meetings down to once every four years, or ten?  You'd go crazy... maybe you should, to see how he feels.  Some other guy will come along and love him like you won't... every day!  He sets his life aside for you.  Love him.  You could be so happy.  He is the best of the best."  He'd have to agree to shut me up.

Then I'd say to Jack:  "It's not over.  Let Ennis think about this, you go back to Texas and talk to Lureen about a divorce and a settlement.  Then come back to Riverton and buy that ranch you always wanted.  You'll be halfway home.  All Ennis does is work on ranches anyway, it might as well be yours.  You'll see him everyday until it's finally permanent.  Giving up is not the answer any more than Mexico or some other man.  There is only one answer and one love for you.  No tears, you have a mountain in front of you and you have to think and plan carefully.  Go.  And, good luck... all your dreams are about to come true.  One last hug as star crossed lovers.  Now go."  Ennis follows Jack to his truck.  Jack gets in, starts it, and rests his elbow on the open window.  Ennis puts his hand on Jack's arm like Jack did to him in SNIT and says, "I was never any good without you."  Jack says, "me neither."

Happy Jack drives away.  Ennis is as happy as a worried block of wood can be. It's okay.  He doesn't know what's good for him and it's Jack's life we have to save.

i sound like the fairy godmother.  I think they needed one.

Actually I know the feeling, from years ago, knowing I could get shot, so to speak, being with another woman, seeming to not need the company of men, in the wrong place and the wrong time.  He had reason to be cautious, but he took it way too far.  Not his fault, though.  But if Jack had had access to him more often, he could have freed him from some of the paranoia.  Except that Jack wasn't cautious enough.

kathy

My friend Robert used to recount how easy it was in the recent past to be paranoid, especially when there was real danger of being exposed or being "picked-on.

Yes, Ennis was perhaps a bit too paranoid, and Jack was a bit too risky.  To achive a happy middle where both would be more relaxed -- that would have made any form of intervention worthwhile...

I would jump in at that scene where Jack drove all those miles too. That was so sad.  I don't think Ennis knew what to do at all and needed to be told.

I would also tell Jack - please be careful at home.  His death was so unnecessary.

I would have told both of them then, find a new place somewhere then...

I have often thought about that scene by the river when they took their first fishing trip.  Ennis refers to "this thing" that grabs them.  If I were Jack I would have wanted to say...

"Ennis you talk about this thing between us.  I don't see it as a thing.  For me it's love. That may be hard for you to hear, but we're out here all alone.  I'm not ashamed to say that you have been the most important person in my heart since we were up at Brokeback.  If you wanna hit me, go ahead.  The first punch didn't change my feelings."

So poignant.

Thanks OT.  That scene really sticks out where some true feelings on either side should have been uttered.  Of course that's just my personal opinion.

I'd step into the scene where Jack is sitting with the baby sheep ( pulling thorns out of it's foot whatever) and Ennis is sitting clear over by the sheep and inform Ennis, that "hey he don't bite you know". I suppose he was just shy but my GAWD , how modest is that? your up in the mountains ,isolated from the world and everything. Who cares if your words don't come out right. Say SOMETHING!!! Thank goodness Jack was outgoing and actually liked to talk alot. Even bitched to high heaven alot but he made life very interesting up there. It's a long journey from there to SNIT. ( where maybe Jack did bite!) ;D :-X Thanks Jack for your patience and a little whiskey.  Whew.

i would of stepped into the scene just before ennis said [i do ]to alma and shook him to his senses .and said for gods sake wake up there is someone out there who loves you more than anyone could love you .jack twist loves you.     now say sorry to alma and tell her you cant marry her  because you love someone else.

the last scene when they were together and jack says truth is i miss you so much i can hardly stand it .i would say to ennis get out that chair and go and give jack a hug and tell him you miss him so much aswell  and bring your words forward when you said i cant stand this no more jack and tell him you want to be with him permanently
if time were not a moving thing if i could make it stay this hour of love we share would allways be
there would be no coming days to shine a morning  light make us realise our night is over.

It seems as if the greatest number of votes went to the after divorce or to the "this thing"scenes(in this last one, with how a pleasure I´d punched Ennis while telling him:Don´t feel afraid of the words or you´ll feel afraid of the feelings, piece of blockhead¡)
But,at the end,all this had happenned when they´ve already separated themselves and spent 4 years far from each other.No.To avoid all this,I talk to Ennis in the time between their separation and his wedding to Alma-not immediately they parted from Brokeback because feeling were too disturbed as to understand things correctly-.I told him that he´d prefer suffer than go through the shame and the danger of living with Jack and that perhaps he´d realised too late that life is too short to spend it living another person life. That he must run to Jack and he already knew what to do...

Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

Yeah the 14 hour drive is the one, I would tell Ennis to go get Jack, say "look you caught me off guard, let's have dinner after I take the girls home"  or some such.  I am not saying even some ground breaking relationship would start but the damned denial on Enni's part would at least be breaking down.

I rather like MPJ's suggestion - there was a three-month ( at least) gap between their parting and Ennis's marriage. Ennis was presumably somewhere round Riverton or in that part of the state and Jack said he was going up to LF to his patrents' place so it would have been relatively easy for them to meet and at least talk, though neither of them at this point was maybe capable of an objective discussion.

I suppose one could also at this point have told Jack not to go to Texas; though he was hardly likely to want to stick around in LF, I've often wondered if he really had to go as far as Texas to go on rodeoing.

There are so many scenes I'd love to step into.

I think I'd like to first step into the parting scene from 1963 and jump in front of Jack's truck and tell him to turn around to go get Ennis and I'd tell Ennis to get in that truck and talk to Jack.

Their first camping trip: I'd tell Ennis to pursue that sweet life and like the ghost of Christmas Future I'd warn him that if he keeps turning Jack down, one word is going to haunt him forever- the word yes- that's all you have to say and things will be different for you both.

The divorce scene: I'd tell Jack not to go anywhere; I'd grab Ennis and shake him and tell him that that man just drove 14 hours all full of hope and you are not going to send him away like that. While Ennis drops the girls off I'd tell Jack to stand up for himself and we'd share that knowledge that it wasn't Alma or the girls keeping them apart and then we'd call Ennis out on that.

The confrontation scene: First of all I want to just hug them both. I wouldn't jump in and stop it because they need to get those things out of them. But after the fight was over I'd make each sit on either side of me while I mediated the issues and offered up my opinion and advice and pretty much say that this has gone on long enough, you're both suffering because you want so badly to be together etc etc so we need to reslolve this now. Then I'd warn them that they are not leaving until there is a real resolution and introduce them to my stubbornness.

At the Twist Ranch- I'd like to just smack Papa Twist and maybe unload a few vulgarities on him for what he did to Jack.

Jack's death- First of all I wish I could jump into that scene with a gun and shoot those men and save Jack. But if I was powerless to that and too late in arriving, I'd roll him over, hold his hand and comfort him so he wouldn't be laying there dying alone.  :\'(

If I had to limit myself to just one scene I'd have to pick Jack's death (I have yet to watch that in it's entirety- I can't bear to) but I'd want to be there for him; he deserved better than to not only die like that but to die alone.

LJN, CSC and Tpe......

Why are you doing like that? You know, you're just killing me!!! I'm at work, alone in my office, crying rivers to the point I can not breathe....... :\'(  :\'(  :\'(  :\'(

However I don't want to change neither scene, 'cause if the story were different it wouln't be so beautiful, so heartbreaking, so deep, and we all wouldn't be here. They did as much as they could in that wrong place and wrong time they were living. Though all of us had talked to Ennis about living with Jack (divorce scene, confontation scene....)he never had done anything about it because his terrible fears!!! Though they were not married, Ennis' fears would have been stronger than their love, you know that, we all saw that in BBM. Look:As you wish, at the end of the summer of 1963, Jack give Ennis a ride, then they have more time to speak. Jack is brave so he ask Ennis for a life together and then Ennis.......tell his Earl and Rich's story!!!!!!  %&) ;and the same thing at the reunion scene, at the divorce scene, again and again. It doesn't matter how many and hard times we speak to him about losing Jack, about love, about living together.....Ennis only realized, only learned with Jack's death. So Jack's death, so unjust, so horrible, so cruel, was almost necessary, and, as Annie P. said, it was the only way to resolve their problems, their complicated situation, their hurted relationship.
It is hard for me to say that  :\'(  :\'(  :\'(  :\'(

However, if I really had to be to just one scene I would be with Ennis after Jack's death, just in the Jack I swear scene, and I would tell him: Friend, I only want you to know one thing about that trip that hurt you so much;listen, when Jack went to Mexico, he was crying..... :\'(  :\'(  :\'(
That is the only thing I want Ennis to know.....Is the only thing he never knew about his Jack in the film, just the thing is hurting us so much.....Jack was not happy making love with another man in Mexico as Ennis thought perhaps........Omg, Jack's tears.

Personally i wouldn't step in any scene. I like it the way it is- no matter the sorrow and unspoken words. The true meaning of the story is that people should say everything to each other no matter what the consequences are.
I say this, because i've lost my best mate and lover this way- not talking that much to each other, although he or me called every evening there were times when the conversation just lasted for about 1 min. I think every scene is made to the point of perfection and should remain that way.

Though i really love what you people wrote. Nice choices of scenes  <^( <^(

I´m really sorry for your lose, iamakashiMAN;maybe the problem was not call or not every day,but what you say on every call, the level of comunication you have.If both of you didn´t open to each other,to call every day can be even an obligation, not what you do for pleasure, because you want to.Well,it´s not my bussineess,so excuse me if I´ve been to bold.
The only thing I can tell you if that you´ve got a friend if you want to speak about this;I also know what it means because I lost the love of my life because I couldn´t wait a little more and she couldn´t wait a little less...Here I´m,then, when you want.So long¡.

I am in a silly mood at the moment, so all I can think of is that I'd have jumped into each scene where the women first appear ( Alma, Lureen and Cassie) and shouted "Go away"! until they did.

Another scene i would jump into would be the FNIT scene when jack takes his green coat off and i would say dont mind me and then steal jacks lovely green coat and run.
if time were not a moving thing if i could make it stay this hour of love we share would allways be
there would be no coming days to shine a morning  light make us realise our night is over.

That's a tough one...

So many scenes I would like to step in...Mainly to ask Ennis what on earth is going through his mind when he let's Jack leave him...or what he thinks about when he says Jack I swear...

So many more. But I wouldn't dare.
