Topic: What would you say if you could step into a scene?

I'd like to jump into the scene where Jack is tempted by Randall and tell him that he could confide in me . It's a shame that Jack had no one to confide in , to discuss his thoughts and feelings with. Just a  freind to listen. When Randall propositined him Jack probably immediatly thought of Ennis the one he truly loved and wanted .He had to be questioning himself.

Then I would jump into the scene with LaShawn and ask her who won that "Aggie" game?( If she'd let me talk)

Another scene that I would just LOVE to jump into is the scene where Jack is peeling the potato while Ennis is bathing nude just a few feet from him and whsiper " Breathe......Peel...... Breathe...Peel....... " Aw hell go on and get your peek on cowboy !"   I thought he would swallow his cigarette he was so ...tempted but afraid he'd give himself away.  SO adorable.

Wonderful choices, aintfoolin.  I would be afraid to step into this scene.  I fear that Jack would realize that I noticed, and I would not like to embarass him at this point -- or make him more cautious.  I would rather encourage him to look, if he were not too self-conscious.

It might be an idea to jump into the Cadillac and frighten Lureen off, then Jack wouldn't marry her and settle in Childress, and might end up back closer to Ennis, and without a wife and family and money he might be more likely to try to get ennis to spend time with him, even if that meant working together till they got enough for a place of their own. Alma? she'd be long gone - I'd either persuade Ennis to break his engagement or turn up at the church and when they ask if there are any reasons why the couple shouldn't marry I'd come up with one.

What they needed was time and no pressure from the existence of wives and families - then things might have developed differently.

So perhaps you can do more by ALSO intervening in the scene where Lureen asks Jack to dance with her.  YOu have an excellent choice -- either you beat her to Jack, or make her take a turn with you on the dance floor.  Either way, you would be a winner!

That has the makings of another topic - if Jack hadn't met Lureen again, after the hat-returning episode, ie if she hadn;t effectively stalked him,because she was there at least partly to look for him, I think, what would have happened? If you could intervene and prevent that meeting, Jack might not have settled in Texas, might have gone back to Wyoming, might have seen Ennis again much earlier.....

If you could intervene and prevent that meeting, Jack might not have settled in Texas, might have gone back to Wyoming, might have seen Ennis again much earlier.....

I'm not sure it would've made much difference if Jack hadn't got together with Lureen, Bobby was only 7 months old at the time of the reunion, so assuming Luren got pregnant as a result of what happened in the back of the car (which I think is the general consensus), it would only have been 16 months earlier that Ennis and Jack would've got back together (although every day they were apart was a day too many ). And Jack only settled in Texas because Ennis wouldn't settle with him anywhere, if he had, Jack would've been outta Texas quicker than you can say "gone fishing"  If anything, marrying Lureen and having Bobby seems to be the catalyst that made Jack get in touch with Ennis again, so maybe they would never have got back together if he hadn't met Lureen. So personally, I'd keep that scene as it is (it's my favourite scene of Jack without Ennis), unless of course I could change it so it was me in the car with Jack

Very interesting ideas here.  Interesting in the sense that Lureen can be thouigh of as a force that pulled them apart as well as bring them together.

If there was anything that could be done to stop Jack from going to Texas: it may be hring him the summer after Brokeback or offering him money.  I think it was Aguirre's refusal to employ him the next summer that probably pushed him to try rodeoing in Texas.

A catfight?  That's an option.  Anything short of murder to prevent Jack from meeting her.  Don't get me wrong, I like Laureen in her own way.  Just not with Jack.

I would step into the scene where Jack is rejected by Ennis, and yell at Ennis, "KISS HIM, YOU FOOL! CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT HE'S DOING WITH HIS TONGUE???"

I would step into the last fight scene and tell Jack that he has'nt lost Ennis forever and that he needed to hear those things. Then I'd try to convince him  to give  Ennis an ultimatum. Give him a week to give up an answer wether or not he was going to continue the relationship or else.    then tell Ennis he was going to go to LF and wait for an anwer to it and to meet him there....... BUT DON'T GO BACK TO TEXAS. I beleive Ennis would have been there. Pronto. Could'nt live without him. 2 cents.

The divorce scene.  I never understood why Ennis sent Jack away since he only had the girls for the weekend & Jack had driven 14 hours to get there.  He was obviously glad to see him by the way they hugged.  I agree with others - that Jack could have holded up in a nearby motel or camp site until the girls left.  Again - attribute that to Ennis' paranoia about others seeing them.

Leaving Brokeback -  c'mon Jack, at least offer a ride!  I would have insisted that at least they go for a beer.

A couple of scenes I would like to step into:

1.  Leaving Brokeback (the first separation) - I would tell Jack to turn his truck around and go back to Ennis!

2.  Ennis' wedding - I would beg Ennis not to go thru with it, because he doesn't love Alma.

3.  Last fight - I would want to make them both sit down and really *talk* to each other, get all those feelings out in the open.

4.  Jack's death - If I could not stop the attack, I would at least go to Jack and hold him in my arms so he would not die alone.

"Look," I'd say, "Ennis, don't treat him like that.  He drove all this way because he loves you.  And, you love him too.  You keep using him, it's killing him.  You care more than that.  Do you want him to go to some other man?  Do you want him to die?  No.  There is only one answer and one love for you, so be with him always, no matter what.  Denying your love and serving your fear is not the answer.  Love him.  Make him happy.  Don't abuse him.  You wouldn't like it if he did that to you.  Do you want him to whittle your meetings down to once every four years, or ten?  You'd go crazy... maybe you should, to see how he feels.  Some other guy will come along and love him like you won't... every day!  He sets his life aside for you.  Love him.  You could be so happy.  He is the best of the best."  He'd have to agree to shut me up.

Then I'd say to Jack:  "It's not over.  Let Ennis think about this, you go back to Texas and talk to Lureen about a divorce and a settlement.  Then come back to Riverton and buy that ranch you always wanted.  You'll be halfway home.  All Ennis does is work on ranches anyway, it might as well be yours.  You'll see him everyday until it's finally permanent.  Giving up is not the answer any more than Mexico or some other man.  There is only one answer and one love for you.  No tears, you have a mountain in front of you and you have to think and plan carefully.  Go.  And, good luck... all your dreams are about to come true.  One last hug as star crossed lovers.  Now go."  Ennis follows Jack to his truck.  Jack gets in, starts it, and rests his elbow on the open window.  Ennis puts his hand on Jack's arm like Jack did to him in SNIT and says, "I was never any good without you."  Jack says, "me neither."

Happy Jack drives away.  Ennis is as happy as a worried block of wood can be. It's okay.  He doesn't know what's good for him and it's Jack's life we have to save.

i sound like the fairy godmother.  I think they needed one.

That scene indeed would have been the perfect turning point for them.  If only they did have their fairy godmother there!  They have a slew of fairy godmothers and godfathers here -- we sure know how to make them happy.

Ennis was so paranoid.  Men hung around together all the time in that world -- most men's lives, who worked ranches, etc., were spent in the company of men.  But just that truck driving by made Ennis think the world knew about him and Jack.

Actually I know the feeling, from years ago, knowing I could get shot, so to speak, being with another woman, seeming to not need the company of men, in the wrong place and the wrong time.  He had reason to be cautious, but he took it way too far.  Not his fault, though.  But if Jack had had access to him more often, he could have freed him from some of the paranoia.  Except that Jack wasn't cautious enough.
