Oh my - these are just stunning. I love all three montages that you posted, Christie, but this one has the moment of surrender from Ennis when he raises his head to kiss Jack and that will always be one of my favourite moments.
He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten

Christopher Nolan, accepting the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe on Heath's behalf.

He was, as an actor and a professional and a human being, one of a kind

Charles Roven, accepting Heath's BAFTA.

This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here — his peers within an industry he so loved.

Kim Ledger, accepting Heath's Oscar.

This is funny, Lindsey.  I just scrolled down to this post without at first seeing who wrote it, and I thought it was mine.  I.e., you took the words right out of my mouth.   :d)  so to speak.

Seriously, I also feel so strongly about this very moment as you said.  It's a funny kind of "surrender," though, wouldn't you say, given that it is Ennis making an active move.  Surrendering not to what Jack wants, not surrendering in a passive way, but surrendering to what he himself is feeling, finally.  (Not counting FNIT, but that's a different story.)

Yes Kathy - that's exactly what I meant by surrendering. I really do think it's the moment where Ennis gave in not to the passion he was feeling for Jack but to the love.

Sometimes it takes seeing a still version of a movie's scene to appreciate its beauty.  This shot is really excellent. I think, for me, the trailer being next to the car is what does it for me - how the pattern seems to draw the remaining contents of the shot away ... somewhere; Everything is going to have this sort of magnetic pull back onto Brokeback. Perhaps the repetition of the pattern is of the years for which this applies.
Ennis and Jack, casually smoking away what had been, are in front. And no matter the denial, no matter the front they put on, Brokeback is where they will stand and fall.

Excellent, orangetruck, as always.  You do have an artist's perception.  I'm sure Ang Lee would appreciateyour appreciation of all of the symbology in his compositions.

And also...poignant, what you say about Ennis and Jack and this turning point...

Why thank you, Kathy. Not to trail off course here completely:
This scene had pushed into me like a rose thorn when I watched BBM for the first time. Somewhere in life I had been thrown into the same predicament and, in such, the vibes could be adequately rationed over an army after being sliced like cake with a steak knife. I knew of the apprehension draped over the wooden fence, the hope that smoking the cigarette would please guarantee the whole scenario an utter illusion.
When I watched Ennis and Jack stand there decorating their departure like wilted wallflowers, I was right there under their boots.
I recall being stepped on.
Really, a good scene.

Exactly, Thomas.

For individuals who have gone through a similar situation, this picture communicates a lot.  The feeling and sense of apprehension all but shouts at us.  I can understand your initial reaction.

Thanks, Thomas.  ^f^

One thing I want to point out while it's in my mind:
The hats of Ennis and Aguire here are strikingly similar. Not so much the shape but the color and shades of rain drops.
It seems to mark them with maybe the same quality of sorts, perhaps with homophobia or other form of disguise or protective exterior. I almost want to suggest their attire must need to be saturated from the outside in, for the occurence of change from within has never been an option.
For instance, Jack's role is to penetrate Ennis, metaphorically speaking of course; this is how Ennis the stoic will absorb what it is to truly love, as this knowledge was never really 'born' into Ennis.
Maybe a long shot, but the 2 pokadotted hats seem to mention something in place of so many betrayed feelings.

I just had to post this, another of Audrey Twist's wonderful art pieces, that was in Congrats thread.  I love this one!  This is what we crave, to see the older Ennis and Jack closer together.

orangetruck, you give such interesting insights into all this.  Thank you so much.  I had never thought of that when I saw this picture, but somehow what you say here resonates...
