I just had to post this, another of Audrey Twist's wonderful art pieces, that was in Congrats thread.  I love this one!  This is what we crave, to see the older Ennis and Jack closer together.

kathy

Thanks kathy for sharing this here with us.  It has an almost mystical appeal to me, if that makes sense to you...

Oh yes, makes sense.  As if communing on another plane perhaps...

Another of wonderful Audrey Twist's that I just saw on Congrats thread.  What's funny, though, is that earlier today I had made a similar picture just for myself, this very same "view."

I just noticed 2 different yet similar and, maybe, metaphorical scenes. They are brief:
First is of Ennis guiding the mules hauling the *baggage.
The second is of the same angled shot in the mountains, only with both Ennis and Jack years later. No mules. However, there's the (evidentual) notion that while there are no mules, there is still the baggage. And if not on the mules' backs than whose? I rather enjoy the comparative twin shots.

For me it also stimulates what may be obvious:

Brokeback had probably animalized them. It had done so perhaps the same way love keeps the poet drawing around the edges of nothing. Neither men knew where they were going, but they had something inside to finally trust. And the very reason they could trust it is probably just because they didn't recognize it. There they are following a path, and it was made for baggage; Nothing either were to do would ever be any worse than continuing 'til death having experienced a loveless fate. Fate came with baggage, and the path was love.
Love, though, isn't predictable. It's just something we follow, it's like a trap. Like society, but important. - The trail had landed Ennis a red, sorrowful star on the right (opposite the left) side of his head early the one Summer, and since then he probably holds his head a bit differently. But don't Yin/Yang do their thing? I mean Jack is with him this time so he'll probably get it next. Right?
The baggage probably still makes a mess..

The next time Ennis comes to that path, I'll bet he'll have read the four letter sign.

That's impressive of any animal.  :s)

AudreyTwist posted it in the Congrats thread -- it's not mine, though as I said, I had made just about the same one that same day.  Great minds think alike.

Anyway, I love your observation about the hands in the pockets!!  Hmmm...  :s)

orangetruck, I very much love ths comparison and your comments here.  I too had noticed the similarity in the two scenes, but I had not imbued it with the same level of meaning as have now.  Thanks.

Are some of you familiar with Raphael's fresco painting "The school of Athens"?

In the center of the picture, we see Plato and Aristotle deep in argument:

It has been noted for centuries that Plato points his finger to the heavens, signifying the perfection of the Ideal, whereas Aristotle opens his palm to the ground in order to comment on the importance of earthly things.

I suggest something similar to AudreyTwist's picture rposted here by kathy:

Ennis's hands can be drawn out more readily -- especially for a fight.  It is a posture seemily oriented to react readily to the outside.

Jack's hands need to be pulled out of the pockets.  Much more is hidden.  It suggest for me a posture imbued with the "inside" of things -- perhaps the realm of feeling?

Thanks you so much bruxa!  I love the detail of seeing their noses crush against one another at this moment of their reunion struggle.
