The second scene is their first meeting after the reunion stay up the mountains (or later). This is the scene that immediately follows the one when Jack in his blue parka smiles when he sees Ennis's truck arrive. It is close to the scene where their horses are shown stepping on very deep mountain moss. Am I correct?

I wasn't sure about the second pic, too, so I watched the DVD..
That pic is from their trip that is shown immediately after the thanksgiving scenes.

I'm quite surprised that it's the same route (or part of it) like they had in their '63 summer, cause -liked kathy said- I always thought that they had never come back to Brokeback Mountain again..
Perhaps it isn't Brokeback itself, just in that area around..

And in this relationship Ennis look to Jack for the emotional support, and if Jack was not content trouble was on the horizon. The strain was beginning to show.

And the way Ennis and Jack blend in with both, colorwise first, and spatially, how Ennis is vertical in just that space, and Jack horizontal in just that space. Beautiful art photography.

Hate to keep belaboring this, but... Yes, you are right about when this second scene was...but I thought they never went back to Brokeback Mountain, is why I don't get it. But here they are in the same place where Ennis was bringing the supplies. Maybe they never technically went to BBM per se, but they were very close.

I know -- I saw very little joy in that get-together. At least I'm happy we saw them cuddling close in the tent that one night...or we'd think they'd lost the spark between them, and all it was was bitching to each other.

Yes, Jack has a darker, greenish hue and hugs the earth. Ennis is in a lighter hue that seems to thrist out to the lighter heavens.

The second scene was not supposed to be on BBM. But I wonder if for filming purposes, they used the same location.

The blood on the shirt is most noticable in the rightmost pic. It stands out against the blues, greens, and sunlit golds.

Aha -- that answers it. Don't they know, though, that we would dissect every frame of this film?? That is such a distinctive mountain backdrop -- they needed to film it from a different angle or something.

Exactly that. As I just said (before reading your post) -- those expressions, body language, etc., are so subtle, but they know how to do it. Heath knew how to "hide his amusement" (and with such obvious fondness) and Jake knew how to coax his reluctant character-partner into letting himself go a little.

And as was said before about this picture, there may be something else going on, about "quieting down," with reference to their perhaps being all noisy in the tent at night!
