Yes, you're right Kathy, it does look really tender, but I do think there was that odd moment when the intense rawness of what was happening between them took a step back for a second, and let the emotion seep in.  The foreheads touching and hands grabbing each other showed each other this was something more, but the urgency of the moment took over, and that moment was gone....

i have noticed this in this scene when watching the film and how you have described it is so true!! :)

Wonderful analogy.  From the minute their eyes meet, and Ennis bounds down the stairs, and Jack runs up to meet him, and they slam into each other...  There is so much force and energy there.
