OK Brokies, here're some pics I captured from the FS and WS versions, and as you can see, the FS version shows a lot more and the truncation on the sides are mostly trivial, so I would say, GO GET A FS VERSION even if you have the WS version!

Whoa... thats a whole lot extra, for the full-screen edition. my next paycheck will definitely go towards this! and even if you hadn't told me or even if they were no differences, i planned on buying the other edition anyways. just to show my support :) and i still haven't even seen the it.. sigh
thanks for letting us know

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I need it, I need to see all the new details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG OMG OMG :o :o :o :o :o :o
I have to have the Fullscreen, and i have to have it NOW !! And of course the R1 DVD player :P
-
Wow. I have the fullscreen & now I'm glad I do. Thanks for the comparison pics.
-
Thanks, dirtbiker for posting these comparison. Very informative. It is not a bad idea to own both FS and WS verison.
-
Ah, jeez....I have the multiregion dvd player so there's really nothing stopping me getting the fullscreen version from the US...and this photo is telling me I should...

Only downside is the widescreen tv that we have - so the screen wouldn't be filled properly...

Wonderful. Thanks so much, dirtbiker. :)
-
OMG.. why did I get a widescreen, and its the first widescreen i ever bought! ugh..
hhahaha
well, i was gonna buy both originally anyway so..
-
One question - Is the one we saw in the movie theatre widescreen or full screen?
-
It's widescreen... You get to see more in the full-screen as you see above ;)
-
It's widescreen... You get to see more in the full-screen as you see above ;)
Thanks, dirtbiker. I have both versions. How did I miss that after 8 viewings in the theatres? I guess I was too sad to notice.

Can't think why.... ;)
-
Thanks Dirtbiker! I bought the FS last week. I haven't watched that one all the way through yet.
-
I never thought I'd say this, but in the past, I would always insist on getting the widescreen or letterbox version of a movie, but this FS version of BBM has made me rethink that there's probably a lot I'm missing when I do watch the WS version of movies... But I think there is a difference between the "Full-Frame" version vs. "Pan-And-Scan", the former includes missing footage vs. the latter being "panned" and "scanned" with a 4:3 ratio window on a widescreen/letterbox material. I will have to pay more attention to those descriptions in the future ;D ;D ;D
-
And usually WS is so much better... gonna go order both methinks
-
I don't understand that, though. Those fs caps aren't even shaped like a tv screen.
-
I don't understand that, though. Those fs caps aren't even shaped like a tv screen.
I don't understand what you mean bram. The screencap on the right is the 4:3 format captured from the FS version and the one on the left is captured from the WS version of the DVD.
-
I bought both versions the day it came out and keep one in each DVD player for my "spur of the moment" viewing pleasure, LOL. One thing I noticed right away is in the SNIT scene, when Jack is kissing Ennis for the first time in the full screen edition you can see Ennis' hand at the bottom of the screen and it kinda looks like he is holding it up like he wants to push Jack away or like a "Whoa, wait" kind of gesture but, of course, gives in to his heart's desire. You can't see that in the WS version. Also, in that same scene, you can see, once they lay down that Ennis is pulling at Jack's side, or at least that is how it looks to me, to initiate Jack laying Ennis down and rolling over to kiss him. You don't see that as well on the WS either. Just some observations. (I'm posting on here alot more than I thought I would ;D )
-
, once they lay down that Ennis is pulling at Jack's side, or at least that is how it looks to me, to initiate Jack laying Ennis down and rolling over to kiss him.
I think it looks like that too...
Never thought I'd say this in a million years but YEY for FS lol
-
i can't find full screen version :(

Where do you live katkat? If you can't find it locally, you can always order it online...

Columbus, Ohio
I've bought the widescreen version today , I don't think I'm going to buy one more
thanks anyway
-
Well, in my case that good thing is that I bought the two versions from the beginning so... now I'll just watch them!
-
Thanks, Dirtbiker, for proving my point about the beauty of the fullscreen DVD. I love the fact that the pictures are closer up. I don't think anything really important is missed. Maybe, it is on the mountain scenes, but the action scenes come through closer and in better details. Thanks amillion for the comparisons.

thanxs for the heads up i gotta go buy the fs version now
-
Thanks Dirtbiker. I usually buy the Widescreen version of movies, as I did with this, because you don't miss anything, because that's how it's filmed, but you gain the sides. This is the first time that I saw a Widescreen Version that actually cuts away some of the film. So now I own both Widescreen & Fullscreen and I'm going to buy the 2-disc set when it comes out in January also.
Where is your Avatar from? I know I've seen it before, but I can't remember where it's from.
-
I find it sush a shame that the full screen version of BBM is not available here in The Netherlands. One day (its a dream of mine) I want to come to America en buy the full screen dvd, but it will be far in the future unfourtunally. ~)
Greetings from Petra from The Netherlands en everyone a merry Christmas #)

As long as you have a credit card, you can always buy it online from a US retailer.. A lot of them ship internationally.
-
Yes I know but I don't have a credit card sadly enough, and my husband is going crazy if he finds out I bought another DVD of Brokeback Mountain haha
But thanks for the tip &**)
Is there a website where I can by by paypal? maybe?
Greetings!
-
Do a search online. More and more retailers are accepting PayPal ;)
-
Dirtbiker, where is your Avatar from?

scroll back and you'll find the answer ;)

Shoot me... I just finally realized and ordered the full screen version on Amazon... Yup, another DVD on it's way, that makes how many of them, huh? I lost the count if I include the ones I gave as gifts. *^)

Jeez, I already got my new DVD. I ordered it on December 26 and I got it on the 29th... I'm impressed, got it from Amazon and never clicked the fast delivery option :s)

Hello cowboys, here I come :i
-
I have both versions. I like full screen is almost better. :)
But why full screen version is U.S. and Canada only? ???
-
Shoot, I think I have widescreen. I'll have to run out and get the full-screen, maybe tomorrow!

Go figure why ::)
I have both versions too but I like them both... for their differences

I still have to get the fullscreen. This thread is just more motivation to do so
-
The motel room scene is a very good motivation, you'll like Ennis even more ;)

Welll I'm sold. I can't find it in the stores around here, but I can definitely order it off Amazon. Thanks for the motivation! O0

I just bought it. Got the confirmation email in my inbox just now. I can't wait to watch it fullscreen!
-
Thanks dirtbiker a lot for pointing out the different between Full-Scene vs. Wide-Scene. I'm going to order again for the Full-Scene DVD. I just don't see why they created 2 different size-scenes. Why don't they just started out the Full-Scene in the beginning? That goes the same for "Lord of the Rings" too. I have to order that in Full-Scene for that movie too. But it's all in the past. Anyway, thank you dirtbiker for posted the comparsions pictures between Full-Scene vs. Wide-Scene.
-
Thank you very much for these comparisons Mr dirtbiker! O0
A different technical aside here, absolutely no need for a new topic. Don't fall asleep... >:D Contains some boring engineerish stuff... :m}
BBM's (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388795/technical) aspect ratio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_%28image%29) is 1.85:1 but ordinary TV sets are 1.78:1 (16:9), thus a slight difference. In theory there should be thin black bars at the top and the bottom of the TV screen while watching 1:1.85 films. In practise the black bars are usually nonexistent because TVs are adjusted to 'hide' part of the picture on all edges unless intentionally adjusted otherwise in some maintenance menu which isn't normally accessible. But by the advent of HDMI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI) things have changed: the 'end user' can choose how the picture is shown, e.g. (just some rough snap shots of mine):
(https://ennisjack.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fkcanig.blu.livefilestore.com%2Fy1p0jYtHiuC3V-5abajN6qxYUA5VZ3BDnwfVR16CO77oOFntd8kUlt0Dp_e3us6SevzTFe5VvOpOShOoEBOKwI7TGhp654e-_II%2Fnormal.jpg&hash=875561a9c45ccb65ed3ab782db8db384f642d2bd) (https://ennisjack.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fkcanig.blu.livefilestore.com%2Fy1p6hjs1_UrNa0TMu0GxFd8J5r0OxomsvVnPu7GxRTnLmLzDxXmdnaNYSdFJdTcQ6ZSymCQzN-vfVtDYQ5b20z6tE-Uz8Ie_ok-%2Ffp.jpg&hash=d10e4290d5f8bb4f04b4168c2ac5c389567038b9)
Horizontally notice Ennis's sleeve; vertically the difference is slighter. Ignore the right edge of the images.
The thin black bars are shown, i.e. the very full picture stored on disc, at the top and the bottom using the 'Full Pixel' setting (in Sony).
(https://ennisjack.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fkcanig.blu.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pQg2o5TxiTCuRc39jjNdCJgoHTXUU0-_LI5unU_iWpSuXx7OmchBgD8j6Dn2cQ4697tKMi9d9vQrtCghplVG25Sd_kndWsnhi%2Fbars.jpg&hash=bb04c0d62f2fc625ffc3b4ca988e8a36f81e5837)
Computer screens/displays usually show the full picture (depending on your adjustments, of course).
***
Another, even slighter detail:
The situation is a bit more complicated but in a very positive way. Our dear friends Down Under have their DVDs/Blu-rays in (full) 1:1.78 (see here (http://www.ennisjack.com/forum/index.php?topic=6952.msg1014621#msg1014621)), i.e. some additional picture at the top and the bottom.
A frame from an Australian DVD:

The same frame from a European DVD:
(https://ennisjack.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fkcanig.blu.livefilestore.com%2Fy1p6hjs1_UrNa23PXFha-uisZYk6XfXq7z4J7e0olKlPTjjKzk4FkDhk6DFbDcl-9afQMF_Yr-VOF_82d11UnRr6rf0EIqBrjnL%2F1_85.jpg&hash=3817687c4b944275b5f3ecfe494a25c71e543c2c)
The Australian releases are sort of a 'crossover' between the normal widescreen releases and the American full screen release. Technically speaking the Australian Blu-ray is the best presentation of BBM. It seems that they have a film-to-video transfer of their own.
There is some ambiguity between the terms "Full Frame" and "Full Screen".
Thanks for reading! O0
