I'm sure they were real tears, any scene we see Ennis crying the tears look real and I know some actors could cry on demmand, some technique they have I guess or the hability to live for real the character they play (do I make sense?). There is no doubt we ever see Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain but only Ennis Del Mar.
