This week's introduction of the Newsletter is a bit more serious than usual, this is an important message from the Mod Squad:

There may be time when the mod team is not fast enough to remove them, please be cautious and DO NOT click any links which are suspicious as they may contain viruses.

Please report them to the mod's attention if you see suspicious spams. Thank you for your help and support.

Have a nice week,

Posted in Why I love this Place by Tom and Flwrchild on March 26, Welshwitch on March 27 and Carmilla on March 28

I love this place because sometimes when I want to escape from a bad day I know I will feel better here. Other times when I have a great day I know I can share it here as well.
I love this place because two beautiful boys introduced me to a world full of beautiful people. <^(
This is a place where people speak from the heart, without disguise or pretence, and that's rare today.
Everything you said is so true.  I love to be here!  <^(

Life began in water - so maybe it's appropriate for Jack's ashes to end there. In a way the ashes could combine the four elements - they are the result of burning, some could fall to earth, some be blown away in the air and some carried off by water - and Jack would become, as we all eventually do, part of the Earth and one day part of the universe.

Sway

I sit and watch. He sleeps, but wakes inside my head.
And takes me back into his bed
And there we are what we’re supposed to be
Unhidden

As I muse, his eyes are closed, but I still see
A look of love from him to me
And in his dreams, his eyes don’t see, my eyes gaze back
in wonder.

I reach for him, I trace the lines across his brow
And in his waking eyes so dreamy now
I search for the love I felt for him, and find it still
Abundant

I take his hand and then he smiles and whispers sweet
“The very man I wished to meet”
And meet we did, though that was o’er the years
So seldom.

I smile at the memory of his words, of a time of youth
and lust and love
Now I dream he stands behind. And I sway with him
Contented.

Meet the Authors

Fan Fictions are stories of the characters of Ennis and Jack from many authors others than Annie Proulx.  ;)

You could find more about this here.

Warning  ???  Many of the stories have explicit sexual content.

This is an interview posted by LuvJacknasty with Alexisg author of Fortunate Son

The discussion thread and the link to the story are here.

1. Are you a professional writer?

I'm not a professional in the sense that I get paid to write, unfortunately.  I majored in Lit/Creative Writing in college, and have pretty much written all my life.  I have a lot of rejection letters from various endeavors, though!  I had a few things published during my college years, but mostly in small press journals.

In my day-to-day, I work in the InfoSec field.  I deal with computer security audits and risk. I do spend a lot of time writing, but it's pretty dry stuff!

2. What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

I think I was just so intensely moved by their story, by the fact they spent 20 years reaching for something that they never could have.  I felt I wanted to try to rectify that in some way, that I wanted to do something for them that they couldn't do for themselves.

3.Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?

Prior to writing in Brokeback Mountain fandom, I wrote in the Queer as Folk UK fandom.  I've written about 40 stories in total for QAFUK.

4. Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?

I think that anyone can find it hard to deal with criticism and comments that might not be favorable.  Most writing is intensely personal and it be hard to detach yourself from the story.  That being said, I spent many years in an environment that was full of constructive criticism and am in many ways used to it.  I do like when people tell me WHY something bothered them, rather than just telling me they didn't like it.

5. If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)

I'd probably say that I wish movie Ennis was closer to novella Ennis.  I really think novella Ennis was a little more open to that 'sweet lfe', if given the right prodding.  There were also a few scenes/phrases left out/changed around for the movie.  Probably one of the biggest ones involves the scene up on the mountain, after their first night together. Jack is the one that tells Ennis it's a one-shot thing they have going on.  It's little things like those that change perceptions of the characters.

Hi Brokies,

Where was my head last week?  Probably where the blue birds sing and there's a whiskey spring.  ::) I just forgot about Easter... So Happy belated Easter, huh?

Friends we have mentioned this subject in prior Newsletters,  but since the last time many new members registered. We still have a number of members who do not know how to resize pictures. It is time for a recap.  Large pictures take more time to download.  An original post is fine, however, when you are quoting a post with a picture, we ask that you please downsize it.  Downsizing helps pages load faster.  Keep in mind that when several members are quoting the same post with the same picture, it can make some threads repetitive.  We have a tutorial about this, just click on any of the pictures below.

Thanks for helping us keeping the forum in good shape and special thanks to City Slickin' Cowboy for his help in editing the current Newsletter.    :ghug:

Have a nice week,

The banter…!

Tell me oh fortitude of death
You who has broken asunder my heart
Now still in loneliness
Wondering in the ever
While seven tides
Severed seven sides
Upon the seven seas
And among the heaven and earth
Growling nothing
But empty sounds remained
In the end spawned a birth
In the bowels of empty streets
Between shades of grey
Where ghosts from past near and afar
Hissed the air before
A sun too soon had risen
Upon a new life
That is where the dying of night
Man’s hatred faded old memories to lull
Upon too many icy folds
To unveil but a simple hush
Is what mortals sung by its evil
No less brethren
It revealed my breath
It truest of mortal tongue,
Sleepless on my own,
Now stands holy
As I lay beneath a bed of roses
To even your sake in what time created
Knowing well my peace
Was made of love

After I saw BBM the first time, I was emotionally stunned.  All I could see was the crater where the movie had hit.  Only later did PBS set in.  I see it as a healing process.  It involves gradually filling in the crater.  I saw some of my oldest relationships, those causing the most suffering for so many years, in radical new ways.  Somehow the movie helped authenticate those experiences, making me realize that they were worth the suffering.  As a result, the suffering eased up.  I saw that, given the circumstances of the time, I could not have done anything different, and neither could the other people in my life.  It makes no sense to blame myself or anyone else.

I won't try to say too much at this time.  The crater is only about half filled.  I'm getting a new emotional life, a far better model than the old one.

En amistad,
Manolo

Posted in Why I love this place by titabeille on April 2, ten-chi-ka-sui and jerasjr on April 4 and froggy on April 5.

I like this place because in these difficult moments, there is always somebody to go up the moral one. :)

I had visited many other forums before I found this one. Here is the only place I know, where people talk and share feelings and experiences without any aggression, judging or quarrels. You do not criticize each other nor deride, prejudge and so on. I feel comfortably and welcome here, that's why I really love this place. You all people make this place so open, frienldy and comforting. Thank you  ^f^

I love this place because it has allowed us to go beyond our safe and familiar spaces, sharing that which is important to us, and learning what is important to others.  What we find is familiar to all of us, that we be treated with respect and care for us as a person, a person who counts, a person who has feelings and opinions, a person who has multitiudes to give to others if given the chance.  Ennisjack has given us that chance, and we would be foolish not to take full advantage of that, so that in the time to come we will be able to say that in this time and this space, BBM and ennisjack.com were a gift of joy and caring and hospitality that will stay with us and those who touched us.

I love this place for many reasons, but lately even more so because it has carried me through highs and lows.

I have been away for quite some time, but I knew that if I needed my ennisjack friends, they would be here.
Some helped greatly, they don't know it, but looking at some of their cards and presents helped me through difficult days.

Waking up to Ethan's poster and cham's photos, Tom's DVDs, Esme's Jack and Cody's cards as well as Jan's sheep and tpe's brouch have been rays of sunshine in the greyest of days.

I love this place, but most of all I love you guys x

This week, an interview of passionscowboys, author of A Mother's Love, you could read and discuss about it here.

Quote
1. Are you a professional writer?

No, this is the first time I was ever so moved by a film that I felt I had to write about it, as a catharsis.  I saw that others were exploring their feelings through writing, and I thought I would as well.

2. What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

I was just so moved by the story, haunted actually, and I had unanswered questions and thoughts about it that I wanted to pursue.

3.Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?

No.

4. Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?   No, not at all - I'm happy to get any kind of comment, because as I said I'm not a professional writer.  Most everyone has been kind, and constructive criticism is helpful.

5. If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)

Of course I'd love to have Jack alive, but I think the question that haunted me most of all is that they never told each other how they felt, or how much they meant to each other - and that they loved each other.  Jack died I feel not knowing this, and Ennis was left with the regret of not having said it.

I think this all just shows what a powerful and amazing movie BBM is.  It invites us in--it lets us see exactly how these characters become friends, fall in love, share intimacy, hurt one another, feel joyful together, and finally mourn what they have lost.  Our pain is so intense because the film shows us exactly how vulnerable the characters themselves are--and we feel so frustrated because they have this beautiful love that society won't let them celebrate.     Every time I've seen this movie, I just want to hug them both to me and tell them it's OK--they should love and be happy together.  I wish I could keep them both safe in my heart--I think we all do.

ennisjack.com Weekly Newsletter
April 16 - 22 2007

Bonjour Brokies,

Last week was our fiftieth edition of the Newsletter, we only skipped a week since the first edition on April 23 2006.  Due to the Montreal ghatering and the holiday and vacation period in North-America we skipped a week.  Next week will be our Newsletter's first anniversary.  This is what I wrote in the introduction of the July 3 - July 18 edition after a week of absence:

Quote
Hi Brokies,

Time flies so fast  :P  Sorry for skipping last week's Newsletter but it's summer, many editors are on vacation and the Montreal Gathering kept others busy.  Montreal's first encounter of ennisjack.com members was a huge success, better than what we expected.  The live chat on Sunday July 2nd was one of a life time experience for my guests and I.  :-\\ :\'( <^(

As a reminder the archives of all past Newsletters could be find  here.  Yes the time flies so fast indeed, the first week-end of June I'll be in Paris to meet my Brokie sisters and brothers for the 4th time since last July, not even a year, yes you could call me crazy.

On another subject, it's time for our regular maintenance routine next April 17 & 18, the date depends on where you live on our little planet, the details are below.

For me, watching Brokeback Mountain is like watching a rose bud open. Each petal opens and reveals one more beautiful than the last. There is not a moment that is not always new and revealing of the human condition. I am content with that, I need nothing else. We live in a world where everything seems to be programed, categorized, compartmentalized, desensitized. People are too busy making money, raising kids without really raising them, being aggressive, being negative and nasty, being lost with no base. Give me a rose to watch bloom and I can live with the rest.

IMHO one of Annie’s inspirations is the complex balance she creates in the SS. So much of modern American life is focused on finding whose at fault when things go wrong or don’t work out. I think she shows rather beautifully that sometimes things just go wrong and it can’t be blamed on any person or event. Especially when it involves complicated constructs like people’s lives and loves. These two guys were pretty good for each other given a time and a place when the choices were pretty limited, and they both did achieve a bit of painful self-realization of who they were.

One difference I have in interpreting her simple phrases “Nothing ended, nothing begun, nothing resolved” and “they torqued things almost to where they had been” – to me this indicates a slight movement (the direction isn’t specified) but some movement. These are kind of contradictory, but I’m optimistic enough to think of it as an advancement in understanding their relationship if not a sea-change. Ennis’s “heart shot” (in the film his admittance that he couldn’t stand it any longer) is, IMHO a sign of progress.

I just watched the movie for  a second time and I just feel so awful. I feel awful that people have to feel like this at all.   :\'(
But poor Ennis.  He managed all he could and I feel so sad that he is now all alone. Kids growing up not with him, Jack is gone, fight with Jack the last time they met and finding out that Jack was going to try and live a life without him with Randall (so I can only guess..)....

It's just all so sad. I just feel so awful that he is alone and has no one to share his feelings with anymore.....that's such a sad place to be.

I think his comment "I swear Jack.." was that he was going to try and live outside his box to make others happy. Such as being a part of his daughters wedding instead of his job and how happy it made her. I think Jack taught him that lesson.

Now I haven't watched Brokeback at all today... and have shed no tears... til I read your message.  I know, as we all do here, what you are going through.  Isn't it frustrating?  Ennis is living like a stick because the odds were against having the one he loved in his life.  I only first saw the movie 2 weeks ago, and every other day since then and I just can't quit it or the feelings it stirred up.  People here seem to be helped a lot by sharing and by delving into details.  It seems to be very healing to shift one's focus from the sadness to the dirth of details.  So keep sharing and caring, tender heart.  You aren't alone.

It amazes me to see how the movie affected all of us in the same way... "PBS" is not just some concept we invented, it really does exist. when I read posts by new members it reminds me of the very same things I wrote when I first came here, and the things I've read from people who came after me: "I can't stop thinking about Ennis and Jack." "the music doesn't leave my head." "I feel so empty." "how do you get over the sadness?" "I can't stop crying." "does it get better?" I kept reading the same things from more and more people, from all around the world, and I realized I was not alone. But PBS is not a disease, I feel that we're blessed to have it. And as much as it hurts sometimes to go through all these feelings, if this is what they call a disease, I'd rather be sick than healthy. And yes, it does get better eventually.

WAS DOMINANCE AN ISSUE?

Quote
Jack and Ennis were partners, friends, and lovers.  They proved to work well together, enjoy drinking and talking with each, and they loved each other deeply.

The question I have that's always lingering in the back of mind, was there ever a question of dominance between the two?

Before the FNIT you could call them "buddies",  not a threat to one another, no power plays made.   But from the FNIT to the Final Confrontation the dynamic of their relationship changed.   Ennis exerted his will on Jack on how thing were going to go sexually and emotionally, the when, and the where, but Jack in turn exerted his will initiating these moments to happen, sexually, emotionally.  In every relationship there is, whether we admitted or not, a power game is going on. The struggle between Jack and Ennis was a constant battle.

Does this question dominance applies to them?    Was dominance  between Jack and Ennis interchangeable?   If one was a dominate force who was it?

The Return

It wasn’t easy coming back here
Looking down upon this ground
Where we once held each other dear
Where years ago we rolled around

It wasn’t easy getting up here
I’m not the boy who though so agile
Couldn’t move , was struck with fear
Then gave his heart and soul, so fragile

I found it hard to catch my breath
As the sky grew dim and moon so bright
I did not think of untimely death
'Stead the memories took me to that night

And as I looked the tears just flowed
Over this shirt so worn and old
O’er every crease, the sweat and blood
That I thought I’d lost, and you'd kept hold

But I’m here because your mother called
And said 'he' had gone and that she knew
That I’d make things right, I’d fix it all
And make your final wish come true.

So here we are together again
I’m saying goodbye to my dearest love
You fly from my hand through the trees as they bend
And I watch you soar in the winds above

I tell myself I’ll let junior know
To bring me here when my time is through
And our one shot thing will be ever more
And once again I’ll soar with you

Weekly Newsletter - 1st. Anniversary Edition

Dear Brokies,

A year ago, the forum posted its very first issue of the Weekly Newsletter. How time flies.

As the countdown toward 1st anniversary winds down, it is fitting that we take a look back at the year gone by. There are so many wonderful events and people to chronicle for the Newsletter, that I am sure some have been overlooked. Therefore, apologies in advance. The Newsletter could not exist without the contribution of all members, so each one of you should take pride in your own efforts for making the Newsletters possible. Your contribution to this forum is the heart of the Newsletter. We hope there will many more to come.

My sincerest gratitude goes to chameau who is committeed and working tirelessly for the Newsletters weeks after weeks. Please join me to acknowlegde his devotion and efforts. Also, many thanks to those who have helped edit and contribute along the way.

Let's celebrate this important milestone of ennisjack.com. Happy Anniversary!!

Love, Ethan – administrator

If I could whrite in english as well as you crabtreeblue, CSC, Keren, Ksxks, Flwrchild, Cham and all the others...I could say : that movie has changed my view of love between two men.
First, when I heared about BBM (by my daughter) I said : "I'll never want to watch such things...".
But once I've seen it, I changed my mind.  Now, I can't stay a long time far from it.  The way the story is showed is full of emotions and you can't help to be furious against narrow minded people who condemned homosexuals.  The movie shows us how a love can be deep whatever the partners.

Just a quick comment on some of the references made to who had the power, or control, in this relationship. It is usually percieved that Ennis did, and in many ways I would agree. But I have been in a relationship where both parties thought the other had the power. And when you believe you don't have that power, then to a certain extent it's true. It was in Ennis's power to grant what Jack wanted/needed, Jack couldn't make him do it. But Ennis was a prisoner of his own perceptions and therefore not just unwilling but unable to make those things happen. Because he genuinely believed that he had no power or control at all.

As to what each thought of the other in regard to power in the relationship, Jack probably had a better sense of what he was up against (namely Ennis's fears and confusion). Ennis, I think, didn't feel that he was up against Jack in a power struggle, so much as he was up against the whole universe.

Ennis was trapped in a room that was only locked in his mind. But even though the door was unlocked all the time, as long as he believed it was locked, he would never be able to open it.

This is what Jack wanted and it's what most of us wanted for them, but could this really work? This is speculation but with these two personalities living together ....well I don't know I have some doubts. Jack is outgoing , agressive and willing to take chances. Ennis, Quiet, reserved and so restrained? What would be the glue that really holds this * marriage* together?  Could they trust each other?   What roles would each play? Could Ennis *live* with Jack?  What would happen if Jack's dream came true? Where would they live? and how? These are things Ive thought about often.   It's all speculation, but what if?......

It was not in knots
What torments upon these hands
One couldst thou kiss the moon without fear
Yet against all odds trough the fading skies
Thee lied before the gale awaken
Deemed to hold on dearly unto thy name
As my heart half a world away died among the poor
Hollowed of life like a borough emptied from its water
When the river too soon has gone dry
At the doorway of the dead
Seeking an everlasting peace
Out of this min bitter soul
When all streams have but gone dry
I will dare and not die
Bare and cold
Hopelessly alone
For I truly know, I held unto thou name
Despite bathing in confusion
Upon a tumultuous ocean of sleepless darkness
My eyes, my ears, my breathe
Remain the Eden of our love
Among the holocaust of sadness
Audible to the solace broken asunder by what winded
Burning this earth, our devotion echoed
Be it only to beguile the hills
That once held our youth in her bosoms
To become the promises of the old
Weeping willows and standing oaks
This forest holds as a legacy
More memories to be filled with mercy
Stories of the likes of you and me
In secrets fond be its streams
That time will seep
In words we alone feel

A few times in a life, if you're lucky, you get to bear witness to something that can be called magnificent.

In its purity, simplicity, honesty and beauty, Brokeback Mountain is one of those experiences.

I feel privileged that this extraordinary work of art was created during my lifetime so that I could be here to see it, love it, stand in awe of it, and preserve it in my heart along with all of the rest of you extraordinary people.

Its been 2 months since I first saw BBM. After a period of being emotionally wrecked and heart-broken, I noticed a few changes in my life. First - I have reknewed hope that I too might find love again - as I had given up after my last relationship failed. Second - I look for and take opportunities that come my way and find that I now try to build wonderful memories - on a daily basis. Third - I have a new energy and thirst for life that I never knew possible.

The overall effect this movie made on my life "I stopped existing and started living".
I cant begin to thank all involved in BBM - my life is now wonderful, packed full of energy, hope, love and beauty.

I think that Ennis was charmed by Jack's outgoing nature.  Ennis was a very deprived child, Mom and Dad dead when he was 14; lived with his older brother (17) and sister (no age given) with no stated outside support for these three orphans.  They didn't have a lot of money, he didn't have a whole lot of fun, and given the remoteness of the ranches where he lived, you know there wasn't a lot of hanging together with anyone after school.  He had to drive an hour to get there!  Ennis hadn't met that many people in his life (due to his remote location - a small town on the edge of the least populated state, which is still some huge acreage) and he certainly had never met anybody as funny, creative and talkative as Jack.  Jack, OTOH, looked at Ennis as the big butch can-do guy:  Kill an elk, take over the "herder's" job for him, make decisions like sticking through separating the sheep, etc.   Jack, fun; Ennis the anchor. (Not for nothing there's an anchor lamp on the wall over Jack's bed.)  IMHO.

More and more people will notice the true miracle that this Forum has brought to us,in so many levels too....changing lives through moving or just changing (jobs even..) and most importantly...
we are evolving into butterflies...freeing ourselves from doubt and insecurities. To live our lives as we were meant to be.....

And that's why I love this place. <^(

A Moment in Time

Two boys, just becoming men, wrestled happily in the afternoon sun. The sheer joy of being together propelled their every movement, no thought given to the days to come.

A pair of eyes watched them from the trees, disapproving and scornful, a grim foretelling of what they would face from the outside world.

Another pair of eyes watched from above, loving eyes that knew the hardships they would face in the future. Preparing arms that would welcome them home when their long journey was through.

And on the grass below, blissfully unaware of the scrutiny from either set of eyes, the two figures came together in one moment of perfect happiness.

I love this place because it seems to be a destination that many of us have been seeking on this journey through life - it is a haven and a sanctuary where we can be the person that we want to be and know that there are many who are urging us on with their warmth, wit and caring. It is a place where gender, race, orientation, class and politics are not an issue.  It is a place to recharge and go on again a better and more loving person through the gifts from the heart that others give us so freely.  It is a tribute to the film that brought us together, letting us build bridges and not walls across our borders.

I am sure Ennis's breaking down also helped him understand himself more -- as much as it probably helped Jack understand that Ennis was also going through a lot of pain and frustration.  You are correct, in that they each saw how important that love was for both of them.

There are some very interesting comments and concepts being brought forth here. The whole physicality aspect of Ennis, his skill in this area and his use of it under certain circumstances could be a very interesting discussion, though I’m not sure this forum would find it appropriate. It would delve into an area of fantasy, pain, sexual gratification, etc. This is, as I’m sure most people here already know, a major element in the world of homosexual men. I can imagine some very interesting fan fiction evolving describing an elaborate fantasy life of Ennis and Jack based on the few personality traits we know and see.

This aspect really “hit” me (no pun intended) reading what tpe said about the “brutal kiss” delivered by Ennis when he punched Jack. Yes! What he really wanted to do was kiss him! But his inner conflicts and turmoil wouldn’t let him do it, (he was too pissed) so he did what he was good at; he punched him, quickly and out of nowhere. It could be argued that based on the reunion kiss, he was pretty damm good at kissing too! And maybe there’s another bookend – THE punch and THE kiss? The same “Ennis” emotional surge coming out of nowhere, reacting quickly, not thinking of the consequences. Both directed towards the same man, his love.

If Jack had been able to really coax Ennis out of his shell (and maybe he did, we saw just a little of it SNIT), there might have been some really interesting “encounters” ahead for both of them. I can see them getting into role-playing very easily. I’m not sure I feel comfortable going much farther than this here, but I wonder if anyone else sees this same potential in this relationship.

It's been a few days
I don't know where to begin
Every thought is darkness
Every sweet dream, a nightmare
Awakened by your disappearing image
Calling your name and waiting to hear a return
My heart starts to fails me and my flesh has followed suit.
My love, wait on me for I am but a few breaths away
When I am no more, then you will be
And we will be together again.

I Must

I must return to the mountains,
Where I remember me.
Solitude’s cold glory,
where Earth breathes free,
stretches,
reaches her arms to heaven.
Here,
My soul’s journey began.

I must go back to the mountains,
The place I left me.
Passion’s white flame,
where Earth sleeps  with clouds,
cries,
snows tears into streams.
Here,
My soul’s journey’s end.

Meet the Authors

Fan Fictions are stories of the characters of Ennis and Jack from many authors others than Annie Proulx.  ;)

You could find more about this here.

Warning  ???  Many of the stories have explicit sexual content.

Are you a professional writer?

No, I am not a professional writer. I have drafted correspondence and did some copy writing through my last job.

If no, What's your job in the ''real'' world?

I worked as an administrative assistant in the graduate school of education at a university for nine years. Currently I’m unemployed. I’m looking for a support position, maybe in a marketing department.

What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

I love them. I started reading fan fiction and enjoyed it and the discussions. (I still do.) I had a strong opinion of Jack’s life from about 15-18 years old so decided to write it down; that was my first story. I just don’t want to let go of these two boys. There’s an incredible variety of BBM stories out there and it’s fun to write about Jack & Ennis in different circumstances.

Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?

No. Although when I was in high school I wrote some stories about Star Trek and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The last time I wrote fan fiction was when “Raiders of the Lost Ark” came out. I loved Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford.

Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?

I’ve been lucky enough to receive only compliments on my LJ. I have worked with betas on some of my stories and their input is helpful. I only wish more people would leave more comments! It really is a good motivator.

If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)

In the last half of the movie I would have Jack and Ennis be more loving and affectionate with each other on their camping trips. I mean, why would Jack drive for 12-16 hours two to three times a year if they just sat apart from each other and argued? I would have liked more time on the camping trips and less time on, say, Cassie.

We just can't stop talking about BBM

The following thread was started by manhattangirl on April 30

Quote
From '63 to '83 Jack and Ennis at the end really never rose above from where they started.   Ennis still working from ranch to ranch. Jack even though he married in to money, it wasn't his.  He was really just the another salesman.  They started with nothing of their own, and ended the same way.

But the one thing they did have was their love, no matter how painful it could be, no matter the distance, the separations, the battle of commitment,  their love was strong and lasted to the end.

I was wondering as they got older, and realized the future was not exactly an infinite thing anymore, was there ever that feeling of being short changed in life, and how do you think each man looked at it.

I was sitting here and thinking about how the BBM Forum has renewed my interest in meeting new people. For years I've been comfortable with my circle of friends, acquaintances, and family. I harbored little interest in meeting people outside of my general area.

Along came Brokeback Mountain. All of a sudden I was in a new emotional state that required I do a lot of talking and listening. For the next two weeks, I felt I would burst because my opportunities for discussing this movie and its impact were severely limited. Outside of my immediate family, there are relatively few people who would understand why this film affects me so deeply.

Upon learning of ennisjack.com I registered and immediately felt as though I had come home! Since becoming a member I have shared thoughts and opinions that I would have ususally kept to myself. As a result of the time spent here, I have begun making new friends...one of which I communicate with regularly. For many reasons I now feel as though I have acquired a new extended family. I look forward to every login to this forum. Every login creates a new opportunity for making a friend.

Does anyone out there share similar feelings about this forum?

i have been reading all the posts here all time along - i am still very impressed by the fact that we all still have so much to say about this story, about our feelings for it, about the impact this story had on us.

i had a very bad time at the beginning. this pain and heartaching sensations have smoothed down quite a lot - and sometimes i even thought this my journey here in the world of jack&ennis would slowly end..

and then i dream of them .. and i wake up in the morning, full of yearning for this love they shared, full of despair for their fate, full of need to be "healed" all over again from this pain to feel them suffer.
and i have to come back here, and i have to watch some youtube videos; and i have to plan to watch the DVD (for how many times?) and i have to read some fic to slowly start to feel better again.

it does feel weird, i tell you. this thing that grabbed hold of me - and i am no good in getting rid of it. i might have thought it had smoothed down a bit - nope, it hasn't.

but maybe some of you will understand me... i hope.

I Didn't Mean to Fall

It was a summer like any other. Back-breaking work for a good for nothin' boss. Sleepin' on the ground, nothin' but beans or worse to eat, chasin' after cattle or sheep. Then suddenly it was about sharing stories, learning secrets, forging a friendship. Makin' you smile. You listened when I talked. Acted like you cared about what I thought. Made me feel like I wasn't alone in the world. And that's when I knew. I couldn't help how I felt. I didn't mean to fall.

Four years passed till I found again the piece of me that was lost. I wanted a sweet life. You said now and then would have to do. I lived for those moments and that was ok. But then your postcard came and I thought....but I had it all wrong and you sent me away. I couldn't stand it, didn't know what to do. Shoulda never gone to Mexico, but in that moment there was nothin' left of me. I swear, Ennis, I didn't mean to fall.

The years went by. We lost our way. It's hard  livin' half a life. We never quit, though, don't forget that. Woulda stood it forever, I think. But f***-all has worked the way I wanted. And there are some forces that just can't be stopped. If it was up to me, friend, I'd still be there. Waitin', hopin', lovin'. I never wanted to leave you. I'm sorry, Ennis, I didn't mean to fall.

We just can't stop talking about BBM

An excellent discussion is ongoing in this thread, posted by manhattangirl on May 20

This was always, I believe, was Jack's problem.  Ennis's feelings always came before his own.   I don't think if was so much as knowing Ennis's volatile personality,  but his refusal to  break Ennis's fragility.  Some would say this put Jack in position of power.

At the final confrontation, with Ennis on his knees, Jack could have easily said, "You're coming with me, or let's forget this now".

It amazes me, how two men, with so little to go back to, after that one week of love, go back to their desolate lives.  Why?   How could they leave each other to go back to what?  Ennis's insisting on returning back to his solitary life, Jack staying in an unhappy marriage?

Jack could have easily taken control of the situation, and pushed harder, but he didn't.   Ennis, if the situation were reversed could have pushed Jack to that edge.   Jack's unwillingness to push Ennis over the edge to make him realize  what he had and could lose was not in Jack,   he did what just he did, held Ennis and reassured him it was alright.

It wasn't a physical dominance Ennis had over Jack, but an emotional one.

From Up Here

They sit along the mountainside,
Remembering what they had.
Knowing they could never hide
The love that made them glad.

They ponder what it meant,
Scared anyone would see.
No longer beneath the tent,
Could the world just let it be?

A force they barely knew,
But felt so strong between them,
Their emotions only grew
Into something they both needed.

Only Asking

I asked my lips the other day
If they missed you now you’ve gone
They couldn’t even speak your name
Though they moved they uttered none

I asked my eyes what they had seen
As they gazed on mountains high
They cried, “These tears are like a stream”
Since you left they’ve not been dry

I asked my hands what do you feel?
As they gestured restlessly
They showed me that although once full
With you not here, they’re empty.

I asked my heart, why do you beat?
Why do you go on, relentlessly
I told myself tis what must be
To keep alive your memory.

And now I’m asking God above
To keep you safe and well for me
And I’m asking this of you my love
To wait, till I am there with thee.

The most profound quote for me was spoken in anger and despair by Cassie.  "Girls don't fall in love with fun."  But men do, Cassie.  Love is not about wearing shorts and needing attention.

what did she fall in love with?  She didn't even know him.  She may have wanted him, but love?  that's laughable.  love would never hurt Ennis.  She attacked him.

She was so tortured and so serious.  If she had just listened to herself.  This was an important point of the whole movie to me, the contrast between man/woman love and man/man love.   Ennis and Jack had fun.  The movie portrayed women so truthfully as to what we really are to men.  Rarely are we fun.

Cassie  needy
Alma   boring
Lureen   money driven
Mrs. Twist    lonely housekeeper
LaShawn    talk, talk, talk

Against this backdrop, Jack and Ennis lit up the screen with something magically delicious.

They had a relationship filled with amazing love, energy, humor and excitement.  And in that mix was fun.  They had fun... wrestling, skinny dipping, sharing, friendship, joking, laughing.  What a brilliant script.

Let's all have more fun!

I love you... just the way you are... and I want nothing from you, except for you to be you.

Meet the Authors

Fan Fictions are stories of the characters of Ennis and Jack from many authors others than Annie Proulx.  ;)

You could find more about this here.

Warning  ???  Many of the stories have explicit sexual content.

Interview from LuvJackNasty with Brokebacksnuit Author of “Right Where You Are”

Quote
Are you a professional writer?
I write for a living, yes, but not fiction. I have been writing (short) stories since I was VERY little.  :) I started writing for fun and then for school assignments and then the high school newspaper. After high school I majored in creative writing and journalism in university.

If yes, have you published anything and if so what?
Right now, I am writing background stories for a Dutch quarterly magazine. As soon as I have finished 'Right Where You Are' I am going to continue writing my children's book (in Dutch, RWYA is the first story I am writing in English), together with my boyfriend who will do the illustrations.

If no, What's your job in the ''real'' world?

I have two jobs actually, I am an editor and translator for a market research company and I am an editor and I write background articles for a non-profit organisation.

What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

In the past 4,5 years, I have been dealing with a lot of physical pain because of a very painful form of repetitive strain injury which caused extreme nerve pain in my shoulder and wrist. I couldn't write because of that. After two surgeries the pain lessened and I felt the creativity seep back into my body and then I started to write down some AU plot bunnies and picked out this one because it had the most potential. I started writing not knowing how far I would get and when I got to chapter 7 I decided to start posting it on the web!

Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?
No. Well, now that I come to think of it, years and years ago I did start writing a sequel for my favorite children's book!

Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?

Receiving comments from readers really is the thing that keeps you going as a writer, it is the thing that encourages you to pick up that laptop and start typing away again, even if you have writer's block. It's sometimes difficult to read what people think is going to happen in the next chapters and not to respond to it or let myself be influenced. Thankfully, I have the whole story outlined, so I cannot be influenced to let the story go down another path.   :)

If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)
Obviously, the original short story by Annie Proulx is perfection. The ending was inevitable, but if it hadn't been, storywise, I would probably have made Jack try harder to make Ennis understand that a life together was possible. With regards to the movie, I would have probably shown more affection in the second half.

Many very interesting discussions are still going on about the movie and the characters.  These are two examples from last week:

Well, Ennis didn't give as much as Jack - he was in many ways as unyielding as the rocks of the mountain, whereas Jack was more the grass rippling and moving in the wind. And in the end Ennis was still there, and Jack, like the grass, had been cut down.

I feel jack was looking for acceptance too which he found in Ennis . Ennis did'nt expect nor want a Perfect partner in Jack He loved him just the way way he was . Goofy , charming and very engaging. These are traits opposite his father, but were just Jack being Jack. I think this is what drew Ennis to Jack and vice-verse. Both fathers robbed their sons of the freedom to just be. When they met on BBM, there was that sense of freedom to be themselves and to discover and be discovered by each other like they'd never known before. Almost like being born over again. A new life or beginning, so different from their miserable ,stifled and abusive childhoods. Jack's dad rejected his efforts to please him. Ennis's dad sounds like he just totally overwhelmed his son with fear, leaving Ennis with low confidence , an inability to find himself , and very little self esteem Both probably suffered at the hands of school peers , teachers, and other asscociates. When they were together on BBM, the slow, easy approach they took grew into a comfortable , accepting friendship first till Jack got an inkling that Ennis was open for more. then love.  Jack not only got the response from Ennis he wanted and needed , but found himself in the position of the one being pleased BY Ennis  in many ways and all he had to do was just be Jack. His dad never gave him that and he wanted to keep it. My opinion.

I swear
I swear that if I knew
We would journey to the stars together
I swear that if I knew
Only you and me as one forever
I swear that if I knew
That you would be my only light
I swear that if I knew
For you, my fears I would surely fight
I swear that if I knew
That you would not be here with me
I swear that if I knew
For you, I would've been all the things you always dreamed.
Jack, I swear...

TRANSLATION
Sorry for this summary translation, but I try to feel you as true as possible the feelings I wrote

The early mists have blur slowly the sun and the time seems to pass with difficulty in spite of the headlong of the clouds to the south. I think it's gone rain today.
I can see here and there, the brize ripple through the meadow, there is no sound, all still silent, even the onslaughts of the wind are imperceptible to me.
I look around but I can't see something to remember you.
My hand scour softly the grass behind me, this place you love so much before, but this empty moment bring me back to the reality.
The time never worn away the pain before you leave, this time just ease this pain, and each day, this so wonderful nature bring me back to you.
This empty place you have leaving deep in me, never make up for. This place bring back day after days all the pleasant memories I keep inside myself.
Oh heart of my heart, light of my nights, I hate this morning when you leave me alone, without words.
Now your sweet face haunt my days.
Nothing couldn't never affect my memory of this passing time, when we were in love.

I swear, the layers of love we brokies have for each other, and for the movie, continuously unfold. BBM drew together more than fans of an epic and honest movie. Brokies are simply people with souls, heart, and reality. It sounds prepubescent to say, but this combo is not easy to find.

One

Stars promised
the weeping mountain,
clouded in sadness,
patience.
All the Milky Way gave its word,
someday,
 when time gives a nod,
when the soul is again whole,
Galaxy once more will
shine,
diamonds, dreams, hope.

On the mountain
wind blows, hardly a whisper…
a shiver… barely touching the trees…
barely moving…
nearly still.
River mumbles
something only mountain can hear.
Scolded, creeks shush their
 gurgling.
And the sky breaks.
No thunder, not a storm
just rain, soft as tears wetting a cheek,
wiped
with the ground.

Silence.
Shattered
by coyotes painful cry… lonely lost song.
Mountain heart stomped,
moans.

Dark trembles.
His watch nearly over,
it’s all right,
he did good, time to rest.
Next vigil comes soon.

Cold sunrise,
blushing,
embarrassed,
eyes low,
hides her glory
till the mountain sighs
and
dawn opens her arms,
gives
shrouded sky thin,
washed out pink,
bloody rain.
She tries to find…
something… sanity… cause
a reason
for this day's light
before the night again falls.
Searching, she shoves shadows,
ruthlessly scrapes and gouges,
probing blindly
through the rising sun's breath…
 glare of noon,
seeking…
stretching far into caverns of rabbit
and snake holes,
illuminate grass and stones
pain,
death,
dust and ash
captured with a beam.
Day gasp,
runs, tripping over hills, stumbling
among trees, rushing across meadows.
And
drops off the mountain,
letting go of
dust and ash stirred from memory,
dust and ash that belongs to night
part of forever.
Coyotes cry their unbearable
painful song.
Mountain’s heart,
crushed,
wails with me,
with that dust and ash
we want to sleep.
The heart of the mountain
is broke.
Tired.
We just want to sleep
till the soul is again
one.

As I bask in the glory of thy love
Temptation grips my soul.I am taken
soaring high on the wings of passion and desire
helpless to resist in the face of thy love
Your eyes speak the words you dare not say, yet I hear them
Speaking  softly my love and I surrender all to you

Couldn't agree with you more, Ain't, if I may use your first name?   :)   I think they both think that all of their checkin' each other out is just gettin' ta be acquainted.  They're both from extremely rural areas where everybody lived at least 8 - 10 miles from each other, and there just weren't that many kids around their own age available to either of them.
A. Proulx could have said they were the same age, but didn't.  After 60 or more rewrites, you'd think that every little word must mean something, so why didn't she tell us they were the same age?  As near as I can figure out, she didn't want their age to be something her readers could use to identify with them, socially.  Maybe she wasn't taking any chances that we could get the impression that these guys grew up anything like the majority of her readers, so she uses the vagueness in their ages (both younger than 20) so we couldn't think they were "together" at any other stage in their lives, that they were both novelties to one another.  This could explain why they didn't get it right away that some of their interest in each other was more than just "friendly," and it might also explain their surprise at falling in love and the viewers'/readers' lack of it.

what if this possible scenario had happened? Jack chose to live with Randall in LF and completely gave up on Ennis and ever living a full life with him, but he still loved Ennis somewhat stronger then he loved Randall(even though he enjoyed being with Randall because Randall gave him his dream. Then, about a year or two after Jack broke things off with Ennis, Ennis showed up at LF telling Jack that he loved him and couldn't go on with out him. Then going on to ask him to just leave Randall and live a full life with him with out caring what society viewed as the right thing to do…

All the characters in the movie had moments where they had a *sobering up *an awakening to a fact or event that made them wake up and smell the coffee about something.
A wake up call so to speak. What are the characters most serious and solemn /profound moments?

My most profound moment in the movie for me is SNIT. It took alot for Ennis to walk into the tent. Many things had to take place in Ennis's mind before this could occur. First he had to admit  to himself that what had happened in FNIT is something he liked. Then he had to go through the back and forth about wether he was " queer" Then how to look Jack in the eye and figure some way to explain to himself and Jack that he wanted more. Well Ennis being Ennis, after analyzing and what iffing to death finally comes to a decision to leave the log and go in Jack's direction. I think this is the moment when he truly fell in love with Jack and knew it. Could've ran away..but he did'nt cuz he could'nt.

Meet the Authors

Fan Fictions are stories of the characters of Ennis and Jack from many authors others than Annie Proulx.  ;)

You could find more about this here.

Warning  ???  Many of the stories have explicit sexual content.

This week LuvJackNasty interviewed Jacks_Key Author of “Save Me” and “Disorderly Conduct”

Quote
Are you a professional writer?

Well, I've had one book published, but I don't write for a living, I'm sad to say.

If yes, have you published anything and if so what?

I wrote a book titled "Inertia" and had it published last year.  Anyone who is interested in more detail can go to my website: www.freewebs.com/vmccarthy.

If no, What's your job in the ''real'' world?

I'm a receptionist at a company that makes roofing shingles.

What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

From the moment I first saw BBM, I was fascinated with it.  After reading some of the other fan fictions out there, I one day just decided to try my hand at it.  They are such wonderful characters, and it's fun to imagine them in different settings.

Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?

No, not at this time.  I have in the past, though.

Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?

Not at all.  So far, everyone has been very kind.

If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)

Good question!  I guess I would like to have seen a little bit more of Jack's life outside of his relationship with Ennis.  We saw a lot of Ennis with Alma and the girls, with Cassie, etc.  I think I would have enjoyed seeing a bit more of that kind of thing for Jack.

Thoughts of Jack

When daylight fades
I still can see your face
Unerasable from this thought-filled mind.

When dreams are made
My heart is still so heavy laid
With moments of you and me captured in time.

I wish I could show you exactly how
you make me feel inside
How you give me all the courage I lack
to allow you in my life.

If only the world were different so
we never have to hide
So I could allow all of me to show
My love, my heart, my soul, my pride.
....I love you Jack

It is like coming home and it is safe, warm, and a smile or a tear always comes.  The tears are not sad necessarily but tears of knowing there are people who love deeply, respect deeply, and care deeply.  I only give half the credit to the film because the people here were always good people with attributes of love and sharing it just took the film to bring them together.

What all of you have done here is awesome and I am so proud of all of you and I wonder if you have any idea of what you have achieved.  If we could bottle the essence of this place there would be no wars or pain and suffering because the essence would make all the bad people see what the easy thing to do is and that is to CARE.  Simply care.

You are all wonderful and I love all of you.

An invisible hand grasped mine and led me along a path. I was then embraced by invisible arms and ”You’re safe here” was whispered to me. I got let into this secret realm up on this mountain. I saw so many people under so many different flags. I got a “welcome”, passed a bottle of whiskey and was able to share my love for this story. No one laughed; no one judged. As time went on we moved from screen names to real names, from sharing this to story to sharing ourselves; from avatars to real faces. Invisible arms were replaced by real ones. Hearts started bursting at their seams trying to contain the love that is found here. Those two beautiful souls that brought me here knew the importance of having a place to call your own and a place where one can be themselves. Though there may be miles between us all we are never far apart where it matters the most.

We should note that Jack also made tremendous sacrifies.  Jack held off on his dream for nearly 20 years in the vain hope of making Ennis see the light.  And traveling from Texas to Wyoming all the time certainly entailed some sacrifice, as Lureen herself had pointed out.

I think Ennis and Jack saw each other in this regard: that each wanted something in the relationship, but understood that bringing it up to the next level entailed sacrifices neither one were at liberty to compromise on.  For Jack, it was the Dream first and foremost, and for Ennis it was preserving what they had against a hostile world.  Ennis's excuses during the final meeting were perhaps convenient subterfuges, or perhaps they were truly valid issues, or perhaps both -- it does not really matter, no?  I think both understood all too well that the status quo could not go on indefinitely, and that something had to give.  This implicit understanding, only implied and never openly acknowledged, was at the heart of their dissatisfaction.

Since my first viewing, I have thought that Ennis would someday come back to visit.  There is something in Mrs. Twist's face when she tells him to come back that is compelling.  She's not just mouthing empty words, but has a deeper meaning.  I think Ennis would have picked up on that and would have accommodated her by returning someday.  Again, the look is subtle -- not a pleading look, but just a glance of itensity that raises her words to the level of need and truth.  Mom's face is marvelous throughout this whole scene.  She says more with just a stoic set to her face than words could ever express. She is used to keeping her feelings inside.  God knows, she wouldn't have been welcome to share them with the old man.  So, when Ennis comes, she has a lot to tell him, but, since she can't speak freely, she has to communicate with him through nonverbals, which she does SOOOOOOO very well. The offer of cherry cake is, I believe, a ploy to keep ENnis there longer.  She revels in his presence -- someone who knew and loved Jack for what he was. She had the paper bag ready when he came downstairs, knowing full well he would be bringing the shirts with him.  This made her so happy.  Oh, I have to quit this post -- can't type through the tears.

Since Jack and Ennis never verbally said, "I Love You".  Was there an unsaid unsayable understanding?  Was it how they felt around each other?  Was it when they made love to each other?  How did one show the other his love?  Did they know what they felt was love?   Would it have change the story in anyway if they had said: I love you"?

Each night my eyes look for you in the dark.
They don't found your face, cause you're not. The glint of the moon shows all around me an unreal moment. They seems so far those days when you sleep next to me, so radian, and yet their brightness have stop to fade in your absence.
Slowly my eyes close to this ancient days, and as if by magic my spirit moves to you.
And then, somewhere, elsewhere into memories, I feel again your love transforme my soul by happyness, and I know when I wake up I'll be fill with joy because this night seemed to me you was there, juste for me.

I believe that Jack fell for Ennis at the very beginning.  But I also believe that Ennis did not realize that love until the scene with his daughter in the trailer near the end.  For Jack the dozy embrace simply confirmed that Ennis was in love with Jack, and Jack definitely knew that he was in love with Ennis. :\'(

I've been asked by several people, "what do you find in this movie that affects you so much?" I usually tell them that it's simply an amazing, beautiful love story, and that I feel it conveys an important message about homophobia that I deeply identify with. There's more beyond that but I can't explain it to people, I think that some things people are not able to understand unless they've experienced that themselves.

Hello Brokies,

Next week-end will be the first anniversary of the Montreal Gathering.  My feelings are mixed up about this, a part of me says already one year?  The other part says only one year?  Yes time flies so fast but on the other part so many things happened in the last 12 months they could barely fit in one year, no?   :s)

For sure the last year was a great one filled with friendship and love, I had the priviledge to meet many of you and I'm looking to meet many more of you in the future.  Seattle is next on my calendar. :)

All of this happened because of two cowboys in love, Ennis and Jack.

First Anniversary,
Montreal June 30 - July 4 2006

Born from Their Love... Forever Bound by Ours.

Have a nice week Brokies,

I may get a lot of grief on this one:

But since we talk about verbalizations.   What do you guys think, when Ennis told Jack:   "All those things I don't know, may get you killed if I come to know them".

Now this is as close as Ennis ever came to acknowledging and verbally expressing that there is something that was going on between him and Jack, and showed how important it was to him, in the only way he could express it.  "Mess around on me and there is consequences. "

Yes, it was an oblique way fro Ennis to tell Jack that he cared.  And I think Jack recognized it underneath the threat.

I think it was the first time that Jack realized how jealous a lover Ennis was.  It probably took him completely by surprise.  But I cannot help thinking that a part of him was also pleased (as much as a part of him was indignant), because it was an indirect way by which he found out that Ennis cared enough.  It hinted at love.

"Alma, you call that a life?" Jack asks Ennis when they met again after four years.  Not really explored much in the film, there was an underlying rivalry between Jack and Alma.

After all Ennis did come back from those "fishing trips" all perky, how could Alma compete with the "perky factor"?

Jack seeing Alma as someone pulling Ennis down, Alma seeing Jack as a direct threat of her marriage.  Ennis steadfastly holding on to his marriage, but not letting Jack go.  Did either Jack or Alma had a chance, neither got what they really wanted in the end.

Alma loved Ennis, but needed him as husband and father,  Jack loved Ennis but needed and wanted to be with him, even for a couple times a year.   If Alma recognized that whatever Ennis got from Jack, it was something she couldn't even begin to touch,  but understood that Ennis didn't want to lose what they had, the family life.

There were no shades of gray, all concerned saw things black and white.   But what if a separate peace could have been made between the two, (Jack and Alma), something unspoken, but accepted, that both would have Ennis in the way they needed him, and all could be content with what they had.

i know i'm not here that often anymore... but i'm actually watching bbm right now and i had to pause, because after a long absence of watching the movie, i started crying again. i just watched the scene after 4 years when ennis tells jack that "if you can't fix it, you gotta stand it". the tears just started to fall and i'm back into this beautiful and intoxicating "story".

i only wanted to share my experience again and tell you that i'm still out there and thinking about all of you as well as bbm. this movie still seems to change my life all the time. with every time i'm watching it and with every single time that i have to defend my love with bbm.

thank you again for this special place where i can come back to after all these weeks and months and still be able to feel such a connection so that i can write down my feelings like this. thank you.

Summer amber and December white
Anticipating our days and nights
Seasons change so why won't people?
I love them, so I hope they might
Too much front in exchange of risk
With no collapse of arrogance
So many ways to deny we're human
The killing of time, our strongest sense
Your spirit in its natural state
Is what shows me that we still relate
Or so I believe, but when all has fallen
All I want is for you to wait
The world could die blowing away in ash
And to you I'd still remain attached
I wonder if you'll feel the same
Take off your mask
That's all I ask.

Meet the Authors

Fan Fictions are stories of the characters of Ennis and Jack from many authors others than Annie Proulx.  ;)

You could find more about this here.

Warning  ???  Many of the stories have explicit sexual content.

This week an interview from LuvJackNasty with our very own Smilesalot  :) Author of "The Package" and the upcoming "The Dance"

Quote
Are you a professional writer?

No I am not. I have a B.A. in Journalism but decided in my last year at University not to pursue a career in the field. I have done a fair bit of writing for newspapers and newsletters and such but nothing at the professional level. I did win a few reporting awards while I was in school, does that count? Or is there an expiry date for stuff like that?

What's your job in the ''real'' world?

Currently I am a Personal Support Worker at a home for Developmentally & Psychologically Challenged Adults. I also worked in a home for Autistic & Dually Diagnosed Children.

What brought you to write about the characters of Ennis & Jack?

I was totally grief stricken at the end of the movie. I lost my Jack!! I began to read fan fiction in an effort to bring him back to me. After a while, images started to form in my head, as an answer to some of the questions that haunted me. Eventually the images became dialogue and Jack and Ennis began to drive me crazy with all the talking! I shared what was going on with me to a forum friend and she said, "Write it down, you dumbass!" So I did. Then I asked her to read it over and she said, "You better put that on your LJ or else!" So I did. I'm telling you, when I say my beta Christie is a badass, I am speaking the truth. Thank goodness she's a treasured friend or I'd be scared as shit of her.

Everyone who know Christie knows I'm just kidding, she's the sweetest, gentlest, kindest soul you can ever meet (or not meet.) But she was a huge part of why I began writing again.

Are you writing Fan Fictions about other characters others than the ones from BBM?

No. These boys are a handful. Especially since they like to bring props to the party. It would be awfully crowded (and messy) if any others became involved.

Is it sometimes difficult to deal with the critics and comments of your readers?

Well my betas are pretty hard on me so they work me over pretty good before I even post anything. Seriously, I love that about them because then I know I'm offering my best. In journalism, it's pretty standard to have your work spit on, cut down to nothing, and used to line the bottom of a birdcage. So I can take just about anything. I love all comments and appreciate the time the reader takes to post them.

If you could change one thing about the story/movie what would that be? (excluding keeping Jack alive... I think we all would change that if we could!)

I had to really think about this because how do you change a masterpiece? The only thing I would have changed is I would like Jack and Ennis really singing! I know it sounds cheesy, but the short story says they did that a lot, and I would have loved to have seen them singing together. I can see why Mr. Lee decided to not let them sing together in the movie, but I'm very musical myself, and I love the image of them starting a song, breaking into harmony, then arriving at the end together. Such a lovely connection, and very romantic.
