Different versions of the film?

I don't know exactly where to post this...

Are there different versions of the film circulating?  Does anyone know?

The version I've seen, there was no scene with Jack asking some mechanics for help with his stranded truck. (Just the flashbacks of him being beaten...)  I thought I saw someone post something about a few mechanics earlier, but I cannot find that particular post anymore...

Are they the fellows who might have took the tire iron to him?

I heart about that too.

I think, we 'll saw all the sequence on Dvd's Bonus or in Director's Cut.

In French version (I mean original with substil and french version), we don't have this two sequence (but there are on the french trailer, weird!)

 Hi Sam,
I don't know if there are two versions circulating, but I very seriously doubt it.

The scene you are referring to, I believe, is just a very short image with barely any movement if any at all, which comes from some versions of the trailer for the film.

If it is this scene you mean, Jack is not visible IN that scene and there is no dialog. Just a rough looking guy in the forground not looking too friendly, and another mechanic-type three-quarters in the background, both in front of a garage (not a gas station), and on the ground to the right of screen and between these two is a tire (rimless I believe, but maybe not). They are both obviously glaring at someone/something in our direction.

If this is the scene you mean, then I, myself, referred to it in an another post, stating that it seemed to me to be from the extended murder scene, which we do know was filmed, as Ang Lee spoke of his original intent to include some imagery from this murder scene within the beautiful scene of Ennis and Jack's parents. But ultimately, Ang Lee decided that to include it there did more harm to the flow and beauty of that scene and decided not to disturb it with any inclusion of the murder imagery.

These following three are listed in the credits and the actors given credit. These are the characters' names listed:

"Killer Mechanic"
"Grease Monkey"
"Assailant"

(the actors who played these parts are named)


Like the two scenes referred to above by Lost_Girl, this is simply more proof that when making a film, the final "completed" movie we see in our theaters is compiled from much edited material which has been filmed. And of course this is why, so often on DVD, there CAN be extra, alternate or cut scenes to show, along with commentary by those involved on why they made the choices they made, ie, to NOT use this scene but to use another instead.

Let us hope that when our beloved BBM does get released on DVD, we will have LOTS of extras to enjoy!

One other comment, on another board, I responded to some repost of a critic/reviewer's mention that the film was 2 hours and 45 minutes long! This would imply that there is another 30 minutes of film....but I'm QUITE CERTAIN that this reviewer was just sloppy with his details and saw the exact same film we did. (He was not viewing in any preview pre-run pre-release market, but viewing in late Dec/January. So this info (his original erroneous, in my opinion, comments and my response is also out there on the boards and could contribute to rumours of another different version existing.

All the scenes you mentioned were deleted at the final cut.  We could see part of them in the trailer.

In one of the Ang Lee interviews he mentions that there were originally scenes of Jack's death (as Ennis believed) flashing during the scene where Ennis visits Jack's parents.  He decided to edit them out as they did not seem to fit.

Thanks especially to Jack_ME...and yes! it was YOUR post that I was talking about.

Oh! I missed that entirely in the credits! (the credit listing of the three "mechanic" actors...) (--->I was probably crying too hard still...and listening to the wonderful song lyrics at the end...)

Just the fact that one of them is (officially) listed as: "Killer Mechanic" seems to point to how Jack had met his tragic end...(BIG SIGH from sam!)

Another scene cut is when Jack drops Randall off at the mechanics and Randall waves at Jack in a way that tips off the folks at the garage.  It's those guys who follow Jack and kill him. 

Wonder what happens to Randall.....

Yes, and we probably will never see the deleted scenes released... 

The question of what happens to Randall in intriguing.  Perhaps the events surrounding jack's death makes him hide deeper inside the closet?
