I love lot of scene in Brokeback Mountain... But I don't know, this two scene, I dunno... they are just special...


They're walking, just walking, the movie just began, they walk...
Ennis looks the floor, the head down and Jack looks in front of him, the head up.


Ennis collapse alone hid behind the wall, but when a man come by, he is ready to fight.



With the scenes, we can already know what their relation gonna to be...
.... And their life will be always like that... always...  If you can't fix it, you gotta stand it.

Thanks anyway.  I think the walk to the bar was unaccountably beautiful.  Perhaps it was because Jack seems to be leading Ennis on -- showing him the ropes, shall we say.  The portrayal of Ennis as a 'clenched fist' is so apparent in this and in the second scene you mentioned.

If Ennis was a clenched fist, Jack was an open hand.

I love the walk to the bar, and actually all the shots of town, on a purely visual level.  They look like Edward Hopper paintings to me, all light, and clean lines, and a sense of loneliness.  I love Edward Hopper paintings. :)

I did read somewhere that Hopper and Grant Wood (i.e., sence with Ennis and Jack's parenst) were inspirations for some scenes in the movie.

I don't know about the artist you speak about, but ther is one scene that entiely made up of wall to wall sheep.  IT IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!  I think it would make a gorgeous photograph.  Did anyone else notice that?                - Nancy

I didn't realise they were walking in sync until someone from this board mentioned it.  Ennis has his head down....so like me.

Did anybody else think (ppl who didn't read the book, first time viewers) ever think that it was Jack who walked by when Ennis was trying to throw up......the guy does have a dark cowboy hat on.....I think the first time I saw it I thought Jack had come back, but it wasn't  :(

Thanks. I never thought about Hooper but you are absolutly right. not that it has to but it does make it all that nicer for me.

Good observation, cowgirl...I noticed the same thing about the guy stopping to look at Ennis resembling Jack (in stature and clothing style). He had on the dark hat and I believe a blue shirt.

Now, here's another kicker for you-- the guy who Jack tries to pick up at the bar is wearing a white shirt and white hat, similar to the ones Ennis wore!

Man, Ang Lee is a genius. I love these subtleties.
