In the original short story of Anne Proulx, the author delves into the heart and mind of Ennis del Mar in the opening and closing paragraphs of the book. Ennis mourned the loss of Jack, no doubt, but he was able to pick up the pieces of his shattered life and moved on. He seemed to be alive and inspired each morning as he woke up because Jake appeared in his dreams. Now he has every reason to live. He didn't care anymore what other people say because he's got two loving, sweet daughters with their families (someday) who, unlike Alma, loved him unconditionally and accepted him for what he is. But most of all, the memory of Jack keeps him going. We will never know whether Ennis will find another man or a woman to love but knowing Ennis and the purity of his love, no one could replace Jack and nothing can change that. Jack would always remain the one, the only, true love of his life. What an IMMORTAL and UNPARALLELED LOVE!!!
So, fellow Brokies, don't grieve. Don't be sorry for Ennis. He has found Peace and Acceptance within himself and I pray we can find that same Peace in our hearts, too. REJOICE !!!
