'Brokeback' Controversy Is Back... At The U of U

(KUTV / AP) UNIVERSITY OF UTAH - The controversy over Larry H. Miller's decision to pull "Brokeback Mountain" from his theaters is back. This time it's causing a stir on the University of Utah campus.

Some students protested Friday during the school's "Discover U" event, where Miller was a special speaker.

The students are upset over Miller's recent boycott of the Oscar-winning movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath ledger as homosexual cowboys in 1960s Wyoming. In January, Miller pulled the controversial film from Jordan Commons in Sandy.

Yesterday, Miller spoke with students and faculty behind closed doors about why he canceled the Western gay romance movie from his theater.

Miller told the group he does NOT regret his decision, however, he says he now has a better understanding of why there was so much opposition.

The school's "Discover U" days are designed as a celebration of hgiher education. And although students protested today, Miller only came to talk about investing in higher education.

Among many things, Miller owns the Utah Jazz, Delta Center and the Megaplex Theaters.

I hope he only gets only a handful of people at his speech, assuming it's still on.  That would be the BIG EMBARASSMENT of the year.  His friends at AMPAS can give him an Oscar for that...   ;D >:(

I haven't watched it, but let me guess...  he said that he pulled it because he didn't want to anger local residents for showing it...
