Boo_boo, this has always been one of my very favorites, too.  Rugged is a good word (though his hair is a bit too neat for my personal preference).  He looks like a 1940's fly-boy.

Yes.  Ultimately, I agree with that.  Dresses are fine, but for dress-up or fun.  Men's clothes are much more sensible and comfortable and he is sexy with regular clothes on anyway.  However, if he wants to wear one of those Island skirts, or a pretty silky blouse with skin-tight jeans, those kinds of clothes would be fine with me, too.  "Feminine" styling on a man is lovely -- it doesn't have to be a dress.  Anything he wants, even the (ugh, this old hippie says) business suits.

I found that interesting about Jake having his hair shaved off for Jarhead - it must have been a powerful feeling, but scary too, right?  And also, I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Jake was known for being a little precious about his hair - it could have been said in a jokey way, I suppose, and it could have been Jake saying it himself, because we know he's happy to send himself up!
