The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Here's one from the UK Biography special that aired yesterday....if anyone ever wondered what Jack Twist looked like when he was a little kid....

 :)
He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten

Christopher Nolan, accepting the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe on Heath's behalf.

He was, as an actor and a professional and a human being, one of a kind

Charles Roven, accepting Heath's BAFTA.

This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here — his peers within an industry he so loved.

Kim Ledger, accepting Heath's Oscar.

You're so right -- it is no way just looks.  No way.  But he is so gifted in his looks also.

Now tell me, is it really just his soulful acting -- you're telling me "the hots" don't enter into it at all with you?  ;)

kathy

I would be a fool if I said that looks did not factor into the equation.  :)

But I would be the first to admit that Jake is not your classic American beauty.   And he is not exactly the epitome of the thespian bad boy that titilates so many Hollywood fans.

But Jake is far from insipid.  And as Ang Lee had said, he is the perfect romantic lead.  There is a sensitivity and elegance to his acting that couples beautifully with his dark, handsome features.  And there is a great deal of understatement in the way he looks and the way he acts.  All this belies a natural intelligence that informs his choice of roles, his selection of directors and co-stars to work with, and the public persona  he projects.

By popular acclaim, I would wager that there are other actors in Hollywood who would get the majority vote when it comes to "most sexy" or "most handsome/beautiful".  Being "sexy" and beautiful can mean a lot of things to many people.  For me, it is the entire package.  Very few actors can match Jake's total persona.   I would like to think that Jake's fans are also a cut above the average.  He deserves no less.

Did I already say I love these two?  The first because I like when he looks like a bad boy.  Jake Nasty.  The second because it's just a gorgeous photograph that shows every single millimeter of his beauty.  Very beautiful light/dark values.

kathy

Oopps!  And I just said in my previous post that he is not the epitome of a Hollywood bad boy.  :)

Well, most of the time...  ;)

This reminds me of my boyfriend (kind of) in high school, in 1965.  Great hair, great face, tough guy but artistic and musical.

kathy

You have wonderful taste, kathy.  ;)

I still think this picture's funny. I don't know why, but I do.

 :8  :8  :8

I think it's because it is not your typical Jake look.  It's a bit more on the purely physical, and he clearly doesn't know what to do with himself. ;)

It's an attempt of a Jake beefcake shot that doesn't work out for some folks...

Yes, that's it, humanizing.  And what a wonderful family.

Did the kids go to public schools in LA does anyone know?  I'm just wondering what a crazy (in a good way) family life it was during their childhood.

kathy

He graduated from Harvard-Westlake in LA, which is private, I believe.  Nonetheless, with such a family and family friends, I am sure it had its crazy moments.  :)

I love this. <^(

Same here.  :)

Too young for me :)  I know, I'm a broken record.

kathy

That dot on his forehead is quite interesting, though.  :)   It is quite noticable in some of the other pix.

I love this little bit of interview.  "Chaotic roughness" makes him not patient enough to bake -- how cute.

kathy

There is something about men who love to cook that appeals to me.  It shows an appreciation of the finer things in life, no?

As to baking, it's more of the chemistry, I suspect, that he has trouble with.  ;)

He also looks so good when he's dry.  ;) :)

I love this one.  Sometimes, when he laughs, it is can be a bit self-conscious, but always honest and sincere.

I want to be that woman !! (who is she btw? :s) All over my Jake ^^) ;D )

Forget her.  Wouldn't you like to be the very ground -- the very grass -- on which he lies?  ;)

He is quite lovely in stripes.  And I love the East Asian screen in the background -- the color contrasts with his apparel...
