The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Shoot, yes!  What fun that would be.  All his shoots.  Damn -- I should have gone into magazine photography!  Okay, Jake, stay with me baby, come on, give it to me, more, there, yes, more, more.

kathy

There is a lot of fantasy in the mag spreads, no?  Working at it with someone like Mr. Gyllenhaal would be delicious.

How could I have missed this one from yesterday.  THe look is a bit different from the rest.  I am thinking from what period it must be?  The closest would probably be Joe Nast from Moonlight Mile...

For the young Jake look, this is quite exquisite.  His dark complexion is wonderful here -- contrasting softly with the white.

LOL.  I do particularly like this shirt.  I like all his clothes.  But I can tell this is fine fabric, this one.  I love fabrics, and men's shirts made of fine fabrics.

But much more than that, I just totally adore when he laughs like this!  He has such a wonderful, honest laugh.

kathy

You are right, kathy.  I feel rather stupid not having commented on the charming laugh...

BOTH of them are so handsome in striped shirts...

I love this one.  This is the best of the four of them that I've seen.  And I like it's casual, not formal.

kathy

I agree.  One of the best, if not the best...  It is so relaxed.

The greens and the reds get washed out in the B&W.  Hence, perhaps the colored version is better.  But the B&W makes him stand out even more against the background that is now monotone...  Take your pick...

I like your quote better than the one on the screen there.  Just knowing is like something that is given to one; it's a passive act.  Struggling to know is active, and we get to see the hero's processes and relate to the outcome.

Nice picture too!  He sometimes seemed to project a different persona in his Jarhead mode.

kathy

This is why I think some of his characters are heroic in an unconventional sense...  And yes, the Jarhead look is a bit "different".

I think I'm reading this differently.  It kind of looks to me like he's touched by something that someone said, something like that.  I can also see the about-to-sing thing.
kathy

You are probably correct here, kathy.  He does seem touched, now that you mentioned it.

OMG, another one that's mine, all mine.  I love him in bronze-tones.  The soft, warm tones.  (When I'm not loving him in B/W.)

Wonder where this is.

kathy

He is indeed a bronzed god.

Okay, contrary to everything I have ever said...this is a teenage pic that I find just about irresistable.  (Don't tell anyone though.)

kathy

I agree.  there is something about his look in this series that is different.  Perhaps his face is harder -- more angular.   It does not have the softness we see in the other boy pix...

I hate bald pictures of Jake, and i hate ones he looks too feminine in

James Dean was also so beautiful (more beautiful than Jake???) ::)

I think Heath is a reincarnated James Dean ;)

Taste is a very personal thing.  ;)
