The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

I love this.  I've seen the top part of it, but not this whole body shot.  I love Jake using his body like this, like dance.  I like this, martial arts, more than "typical" sports, but those are cool pics, too.

kathy

Did I say that I find the feet interesting?

A most elegant body profile.  Very elegant.  And the way the head twists to face the viewer. Exquisite.

Yep.  His whole body, and the way he uses it, the ways he moves, are all part of the work of art.  Or maybe, poetry in motion?

kathy

So true.  He is poetry in motion.

Because everything about the face is so expressive, and yet gentle and not forbidding...

All of the above, plus the earth-tones coloring.

kathy

You are right.  Is it too somber?  I think not.  But there is a somber beauty to this pic...

Even her beautiful dress don't compare to his eyes..

I love him in this, but she's scary, she's so thin.  Is this that same babe as in the others?  Must be some magazine shoot with some model.

Anyway, I love when he moves crazy like this, wild dancing.  (Yes, even the faux-bull-riding for Ennis.)

kathy

He also looks quite thin in this pic, no?  Perhaps too thin...

I love the look on Susan Sarandon's face.  Jake's profile is to die for.  So can I blame her?

Yes, Susan a woman of a certain age (such as moi) with obvious good taste in appreciating a young beautiful man and fascinating person.

kathy

And why not?  Some of the people I know who have the most excellent taste in men are of that certain age...

So much to love in this pic.  :)

Yes, I know, but you know me.  I can't help it:  his suit is so "conservtive" and his hair is so controlled down.  But he's beautiful anyway.

You know how Hugh Grant, until just not that many years ago, always had long, floppy hair, and it was such a part of his appeal, but then he got up with the styles more and has been wearing it all short lately.  I hope Jake doesn't do that.  His hair is not especially fashionable in this age of men in much shorter hair or shaved  -- his is more 80's hair almost.  Except C/W music guys do more creative things with their hair, which I like.  But I hope Jake doesn't succumb to "fashion," that he continues with the wild hair when appropriate.

Okay, off my hair soapbox.  (Except to say I think long hair on women is rather ho-hum, and love women with short hair!  I really do like things switched around :)

kathy

I do love his hair, no matter how he wears it.  But I do think he sticks to styles that accentuate his beauty.

This is exquisite..

Yes, it is.  I have to say, yes, it is.

kathy

The face and those eyes.  The look is both masculine and feminine...

He looks so different when his eyes look brown.  I don't suppose he ever wears dark contact, though, does he?  It's just certain lighting?

kathy

Yes, his eyes here are like obsidian or black onyx.  It changes the look.  But the eyes are as intense as always...

Me, too -- and I keep thinking, boy, these photographers have a field day with him.  I mean, artistic photographers, first of all, but more than that, what a rich subject to work with.

kathy

Even if he is like putty to their fingers, his "Jakeness" shines through...

And a dalmatic is...?  Sounds like some liturgical garb.  Or a desert robe?

Good evening all :)

Nope, don't mind at all.

It looks almost like he's standing against a fake backdrop.  The whole thing kind of a non-event.  Or incongruous.  Or...

kathy

You are probably right -- it doesn't look very real...

Compare:

Matisse and Delacroix would have loved to have painted Jake...

Thanks!  Love it with the comparison Matisse.  Of course, I'd like a better comparison -- Jake on some kind of colorful bedspread, with no top.

(And this is a ways back, but I don't know the other two painters you mentioned, though I could envision it from the particular Jake photo.)

kathy

Nonetheless, the shirt beautifully defines his upper body -- aided by his raised arms.  And the face is quite beautiful and evocative of sleep or desire or both...

Is this intellectual Jake?  Gritty Jake?  Or just plain Jake?

Hmmm...  "Gritty" -- I like that description.  How about a gritty intellectual?

kathy

That too!  Beauty and intellect; grit and elegance...

idée fixe

Refresh my memory, what that means.

kathy

Fixed idea, as in the music of Berlioz.

Those eyes and the lighting make this pix so interesting.  The play of light on the shirt makes it take on the sheen of rich silk...

His richness against the funky-rusty old door.

kathy

With Jake, even the old wood has the beauty of watered silk...

He loves photographers and they certainly love him

So true what you said about the photographers..

As was said before, he makes love to the camera.
