The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

I've said before, but I adore Jake's teeth, how they're not "done," all Hollywood fake-perfect.  I think irregularities of teeth add character to a person.  Well, today I happened to read a short thing about Kirsten and she said the same thing -- she apparently has rather irregular teeth, also, and she likes it just fine.  (She's just cute, and too bad they didn't stick together -- but I don't know enough about her to know if she's a good person, even-tempered, well-read, things like that, that I would assume Jake would like.  Sorry -- straying OT, but not too far...)

kathy

Yes, I do love the fact that his teeth are not "done".  :)

I love this -- purposely vintage-tacky motel room, and Jake being a little purposely tacky himself, just a tad.  But gorgeous face...

kathy

The room and the pose is a tad tacky, the face has so much class.  That's why there is a frisson in this pic that is quite delightful.  :)

Sorry, but we can't take away the picture when we're commenting on a comment on a picture!  So maybe just for the pix threads, make an exception.  But anyway, this is exquisite dark beauty.  Precisely as you love the most, I think?

kathy

tpe: I removed the reference/link to Twisted's original post but kept the small pic.

Indeed, kathy, I love his dark beauty.

God, you are exactly right.  Now, we know that he can tame his hair to something "proper" (such as in pix with RDJ recently, or even at MTV Awards.  But I love it scruffed up a bit -- this is what his hair does naturally, scruffs all up, and to me, it speaks of the aspects of a person that cannot quite be tamed...  And also of freedom of thoughts.

kathy

kathy, I think we share the same aesthetic sensibility here.  Perfection does not always mean symmetry and neatness.  :)

Ha!  You poor, pathetic sucker...in good company.

kathy

Are we suckers for pleasure or for pain?  I suspect both.  They are conjoined in the cult of Jake Gyllenhaal

The paleness of this is another kind of beauty, as in a dream...

kathy

His pallor is ethereal.  It is the gossamer stuff of dreams.  :)

He was so serious in this.  He refused to reduce it to the level of a joke.  He is classy.
