The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Not me to both questions. I have no willpower where he is concerned  :)

What is willpower?

The premiere pix for TDAT are mostly excellent.  From the German premiere:

That is probably the best pic in that series...  From another well-known series withthe same dreamy look:

Quite beautiful.  I prefer the pensive look in both Heath and Jake.

The guy in studs.  :)  And he certainly looks better with his bow tie undone.

What makes this series attractive are the harmonies of red, purple, and black.  And their faces, of course!

I was just telling Jennis that what I want very much is a custom portrait of him.  :)

This is perhaps one of the most wonderfully crafted of the photo shoots.

Poor Christie -- talk about coming over to the so-called Dark Side!

Okay, here's the contract:  Subject [Jake Gyllenhaal] must in every photograph show at least one inch of underwear (either boxers or briefs acceptable) except under the following conditions:  (a) when wearing a suit or tuxedo; or (b) when subject is not wearing underwear, in which case some portion of the area commonly defined as the "Happy Trail" must be visible.

kathy

I will go with a suit for now...

Great article!  Thanks, Thomas.  I didn't know about their "well known brawls" but then I've only this year started following them.

With a sister/best friend like this, it seems certain Jake will end up with a very "interesting" woman (if that be the case).

kathy

She also mees protective of her brother.  Remember her comment about the BBM murder scene?

Yes, it's the inspiration that counts, but also I recognize the pleasure of the person drawing it.  The "magic" that is in drawing, especially drawing the object of your affections.  I do pencil drawings, but only from photographs -- I can't draw just out of my head (well, I can, but they always look like someone you'd meet in prison) nor have I drawn from life, not people.  But I haven't felt compelled to draw Heath or Jake or Ennis or Jack -- it's very time-consuming...and we have such a wealth of images anyway.  Not like the old days, when a pencil drawing of a photograph very few had seen was special.)  Sorry, OT, about me.  But I do encourage and appreciate anyone's artistic rendering of these most splendid subjects.  Except I don't care in the slightest for that cartoon style -- anime I guess.

kathy

I love the drawings based on the actual pix.  They show a more personal understanding of the subject as a work of art.

Light and shadow are so sharply contrasted in this pic.  It is haunting.  It is almost not like him.

I do love these, Thomas.  And I do see it, the comparison.
This is kind of like a star on Hollywood Boulevard, but you're trying to get Jake on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel!

kathy

The arm of Masaccio's neophyte is uncannily similar to Jake's arm in the accompanying pic.  To see him painted in fresco in the Vatican or Florence would be greater than 100 Hollywood stars combined.  ;)

Indeed I noticed.  Also in this one:

I can't quite figure this look out.  I don't know if I would call it suave.  I would if he were dressed differently.  His head may be suave, but I don't think you can be suave in tennies and baggy street clothes.  Or can you?  If anyone can, he can.  But still, it's unusual.  It looks almost more dangerous than suave to me.  Like, he's surrounded by this gang of girls, and if they don't watch it, he might just have to get nasty...  (Just having fun with it -- I do let my imagination go and imagine scenarios; I have no clue what really might be going on here.)

kathy

Let your imagination go then.

Have we ever admired the back of his neck?
