The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Melodic, with some quaint dissonances.  Piquant...

This is one of the most honestly and nakedly beautiful Jakes.  Transparent, just Jake's innerbeingness expressing for all to see.

Yes, kathy, I knew you would understand.

Fascinating.  I do wonder why the bloodshot eyes.  And now that you point it out, his eyes here certainly are even more intense, with the pink with the blue...

kathy

Yes, the pink and the blue: they jar the viewer a bit by their juxtaposition and overall visual intensity.

Especially, for me, when he's looking directly into the camera.

I think the blood-shot eyes are mainly from the hard, gas-permeable contact lenses he wears. Being under bright lights, near salt water, tired, etc. all contribute to red-eye, especially when you wear contacts. Jake should consider lasik eye surgery so he can trash the lenses like I did. Then there'd be nothing to mar the beauty of those sky-blue eyes. (sigh) <^(

It is beautiful even when red...

Do I see contacts in this pic?  I never knew he wore contacts.  But they're certainly not enhanced-color contacts (they look smaller than the iris) -- that blue is real, is it not?

kathy

I have been told it is...

This is quite lovely.  I'm sure you like this lighting, Thomas.  Intriguing -- looks like sun rising on his beauty.

kathy

Yes, it is like Apollo rises to kiss him.

Fiery Jake?  Now there's an image.   ;)  Thomas, you know me and red on Jake. Whether it's reflection, clothes, or just the colour of his cheeks, so, what about a joint pic for us?  Profile for you, red for me, and neck for both. ;D ;D  Yes, I really have gone mad!  :i

He is a red rose one is loathe to pluck. :)
