His eyes said it all
« on: Jan 14, 2007, 10:17 AM »
Hi,

When Jack and Ennis reunite after four years , after the second passionate kiss, did any of you notice how Jack's eyes longingly look at Ennis.   He didn't miss a beat.   His eyes never shut, or look away.  His eyes was totally focused on Ennis.  It wasn't "Ok I'm just acting now".    No,  it was love and longing you saw it after that kiss.

I think this young actor will do wonderful things in the future,  I'm looking forward to it.

:8 yes! yes! yes! i noticed. from the very first tent scene, his eyes just said it all. especially during the secong tent scene where jack looks into ennis' eyes before kissing him. that look in his eyes nearly killed me. there is so much feeling in those eyes that i never thought for one second that he was acting at all. it went on to a stage that i thought they were really a couple in real life. you can imagine how disappointed i am when i found out that heath and michelle were really together in real life  :(
did you miss me?

Such beautiful, expressive eyes...I agree that it really looked like love in Jack's/Jake's eyes.   <^(

Yes, I agree . Jack's lets his eyes do all the talkin here. They say " I love you " without uttering a word. Only in his wildest dreams did he expect this reaction to his arrival from Ennis. I think he hoped for the best but Ennis took his breath away!. ..and mine too. And the way Ennis looks at him?  Pure magic. It does'nt get any" deeper" than this imo.

Wonderful observation, manhattangirl, about the eyes.

Traditionally, not to shut one's eyes when one kisses is not considered a proper thing to do.  But then again, what would one expect when one is caught off guard.  The fact that his eyes don'r close also expresses his astonishment.  He could hardly believe it.

Part of the reunion kiss scene that amazed me was "Jack" trying to nuzzle and kiss "Ennis" while "Ennis" was pulling away from him, what a great bit of acting, it looked real to me, the look of longing and confusion on Jake's face was impressive. His eyes are very expressive as well as the rest of his face.

I think the best part of how Jack was portrayed was his honest sweetness and his need for love and acceptance. I think that Jake G brought that to his characterization naturally.

Hi Cathyinaz,

Yes,  You believed that this was the man he loved.  I also agree with you about Jake G.,  his performance was amazing, not one false step, he was Jack Twist.

I have said this before but my favourite scene , acting wise with Jake is where they both first come down of the mountain. Just watch his eyes when he asks Ennis if he'll be back next year. The words are nevr spoken but his eyes shout..............."Please say you'll be back next year, .........If you don't come back next year I'll go crazy". "I love you and it is killing me to leave you, but if you say you will be back next year, I can cope till then" "I don't want you to go!"

I hear him screaming the words at Ennis, because it is exactly what I'd be shouting inside. It never fails to get me, my heart aches for them at this moment, even more so after seeing the whole movie because we know exactly what they shared when we get to the end and we see the flashback scene and see just how in love they really were at this point.

I am coming over all PBS just remembering his eyes in thisbreathtaking, wonderfully acted and heart achingly amazing piece of skill byJake Gyllenhaal.
Actually, "life does get better than this"

I know what you mean Lauren... the chemistry between them is so intense, their eyes convey so much emotion, that it's hard to believe it's just an act. you can FEEL the love and the longing between them, and you want to believe that it's real because how can it be that these two guys you see are not really, desperately in love? And that's how rumors are born.
The truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.

Jake has just about the most expressive eyes I have ever seen on any person in the world.  It is indeed heart wrenching to watch their first goodbye, especially knowing the ending, and always brings tears to my eyes. I too hear him screaming at Ennis in my head and always hope (obviously irrationally) that his answer will be different just once, so that we don't have to see the sadness in his eyes as he's driving away.  PBS, here we come.

Yeah, it's hard to miss what Jack is saying or thinking with those eyes. I don't think I've ever seen some one who can express one's feeling so honestly  yet so natural as JG just with his eyes alone. Its very captivaing, but wether he's happy or sad or angry , his eyes tell his story. They are stunningly beautiful and expressive. This Brokeback Syndrome is addictive. I'm still in love with this film. <^( :c)

Jake G's eyes were a marvelous strength in his protrayal of Jack Twist.  You could read so much sinmply from his eyes.

that's exactly what i thought! i guess, in a way i never wanted brokeback mountain to end--at least not the way it ended. the chemistry , the love, the emotion is so overwhelming that i hope that it will go on forever and both characters are played by jake and heath so naturally, i wanted then to be together. seeing them together in a picture or interview makes me wonder, 'are they together now? did they realize they're made for each other?' they're just so perfect together in the movie, its like they've been waiting for each other all their lives....its so touching. i'd do anything to see a different ending...seeing the pain they had to go through just to keep their love alive practically tore my heart apart. it changed the way i view love...its more than just liking someone

I'd be interesed to know what kind of "research" these two used to prepare for these roles. Just looking at these guys in pictures, I see an undeniable chemistry there. Did Heath and Michelle really ask Jake G. to be their baby's Godfather? Sometimes I think life is imitating art here, or vice verse  but it's probably just wishful thinking on my part. ;) ;D. They do look good together and seem to have alot more spark than some straight couples I know. They've both denied being gay, but when they look at each other  (  credit  to Ang Lee for his excellent direction) in the movie or in interveiws, I see a different story. But that's Hollywood I guess. Just "really good friends? The eyes don't lie or they are REALLY good actors. Will they do another movie together? Due to rumours from this one, I doubt it. You did'nt hear it from me   &*& *o);D ;) %( <^( :c)

You can certainly read the chemistry in their eyes!  I don't know about life imitating art, but one can tell that there was respect and friendship between them.
