Since I am a newbie I haven't ben able to read all the threads.
So,My apologies if this has been discussed before.

 It's appears to me Ennis surroundings with Jack on BBM are artificially mirrored or reflected quite extensively.Directly outside Ennis and Alma's apartment..

Apartment / Tent.......The Elks lodge / Jack and Ennis killing Elk.....Laundromat / waters...Liquor Store* / Spirits consumed. Two differant yet similar worlds. One natuarl one artificial.

I suspect the apartment situated as it is, reflects the elevation of the mountains.

Any further thoughts or comparisons?

* It's connected to a "Liquor" store.You can see a huge Liquor sign displayed prominently when Ennis truck flies  haphazrdly into the parking space below his apartment,narriowly missing a cowboy hatted pedestrian.

Hello HiAltShag.  It did occur to me that the Elk lodge was a direct pun on the earlier Elk scene, in a similar way that JTs bar was a reference to Jack Twist.  The Order of Elks is of course a real organization with lodges spread all across the US.  Whether this was an intentional visual pun on the earlier scene is hard to establish with certainly, although it is one that immediately registers in our minds after multiple viewings...

Yes sir... I was aware of that.

If I recall, there was a short discussion of this Order somewhere in this forum.

I also happen to live a block away from the National Headquarters, and it is quite a lavish affair, so different from the humble one we see in BBM.  They have a pair of giant bronze elks at the gate, and I always think of the elk scene in BBM whenever I pass by!

Thanks for the information about the Elks lodge I noticed the sign in the film, but I thought it was just a store or a factory or something that just happened to be called Elks (like JT's bar), I didn't realise it was an official organization. You learn something new every day...
