Ma quale dislessia, Doc?

noi aspiranti scrittori ci sentiamo sempre inadeguati, Frances..... ;D

Yo también quiero ser escritora!!!

Ciao a tutti li bambini!!!!  ;) ;)

:o :o :o What a pity, Rilla!!!! You should go and rent/buy the DVD!!! Please, please, do it!!! It's worthwhile!!! ;)

I have to disagree. Clive didn't turn indifferent. He had to behave that way. It wasn't bigotry, it was jealousy in my opinion. Clive was sort of shot dead when Maurice told him he was going to leave with Alec. And I'm sure Maurice knew Clive loved him. You shouldn't compare the way Ennis and Clive showed their own feelings. The context is waaaay too different....Just my two cents, anyway... But you're right...this is a very sad story....I'd have liked to see Clive chasing Maurice and stopping him. But that would have been unrealistically sappy.

it was 1914. Two guys living together? No way. ;D You know what? I think the only flaw in the book and in the movie is just Maurice's decision to leave with Alec. It looks so unrealistic. Argentina in 1914 was not San Francisco in 80's. Anyway, I understand  it was just a literary solution to stress the different destiny of the two boys. One of them chooses to live in harmony with his true self running all risks involved in this, the other one chooses the easier (?) way: to live according the social rules, having in return richness and respect. Who will be happy, in the end? None, I guess. They loved each other. They belonged to each other. Alec was nothing but a second best, nothing but sex. Clive was the love of Maurice's life, Maurice was Clive's. But life is hard. And if you can't fix it you gotta stand it. ;)

yes, I think you are right here. It was a sort of love. A different one. Clive couldn't give Maurice that sort of flesh and blood love he needed.
Mmmm....I feel like rewatching the movie now. I haven't seen it for ages. Maybe I could see things in a different way now. Thank you for refreshing it, Rilla. :)
