Title: DVD Release - UK
Post by: *Froggy* on Mar 15, 2006, 04:19 PM
Hi peeps,

So as you all know crazy Froggy lives on her big pond, aka Britain!

Anyway I preselect BBM on my DVD Rental collection, and it says 17th of April...

But then I go to Amazon, and other web sites that sell DVDs on the net, and it says that BBM will be for sale on April 24th ???

Anyone else know about this?

HMV has added the DVD to pre-order, too. April 24th, and if you are eligible for free UK delivery it is 1£ cheaper than play for the time being.

Hi peeps, amazon.co.uk let's you pre-order BBM for £11!

I have just placed my order...the date is 24th of April, but they say they will dispatch it as soon as they get it from the retailers.

The features seem to be the same as the american DVD:

DVD Features:
•    Special Feature Information:
        °    On Being A Cowboy
        °    Directing From The Heart Ang Lee From Script To Screen Interviews With Larry McMurtry And Diana Ossana
        °    Sharing The Story The Making Of Brokeback Mountain

Special Features

    * On Being A Cowboy
    * Directing From The Heart: Ang Lee
    * From Script To Screen: Interviews With Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana
    * Sharing The Story: The Making Of Brokeback Mountain
    * Widescreen 1.85:1 Anamorphic
    * Dolby Digital 5.1 / Dolby Digital DTS 5.1 / Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
    * Languages - English
    * Subtitles - English
    * Region 2 / PAL / Colour
    * Running Time 134 Minutes

Yet, I can still get the DVD to rent by the 17th!!!!

Just pre-ordered myself a copy from Amazon!!!!!!!!!!! Realized I wouldn't survive without untill July when the Swedish version will be released... and since I know every quote and word of this story + film, I don't need a crappy translation made by some stupid person who makes it wrong anyway... ahh can't wait untill the 24th April............ ;D ;D ;D ;D

The extras are very meagre. The LOGO special available to see on youtube (and someone already put this on a DVD for me) and the other things only last about 20 minutes in total.

Not exactly spoiling us!

Getting so close now......we can almost taste it!   ;)

Saw a gorgeous ad for the DVD the other day.......it was a full page colour ad with "Proudly own it on DVD" written across the top.  Wanted to find the person who wrote that tag line and kiss them!

Then it had the pic of the DVD, and underneath "Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal give heartfelt and emotionally charged performances".

Ahhhh, never a truer word spoken!

I just feel sorry for those people who will see the DVD in the shops and walk on by - never to have had BBM in their lives.  :(

I'm not sure about this but a friend told me that if you're in another country your dvd order mught be dispatched eralier. I am in Sweden, and Coguaro i Italy for example. So they send it a bit earlier do we won't risk having it after the release date. Where do you live?

I'm in Scotland, Katie.

You could be right about them dispatching overseas orders earlier, though....and I did go for the free delivery option which means they say it takes 3-5 days, even when it only usually takes 1-2 days to arrive. I guess it should arrive by Wednesday or Thursday......

How clever of you to get it delivered to your place of work!!!  At least then you don't have to spend all day wondering if it's sitting on your doormat at home!  That would be like torture!

I hope you don't have to wait too long for it.    :)

Me, I'm off to Asda in my lunch hour, and I so cannot wait.   ;D  ;D

I have never walked around and done my shopping with a beam from ear to ear as it's normally such a boring mundane thing to do the weekly shop,but today,i was grinning like a cheshire cat.I have given our BBM boys pride of place in my front room at the moment.I shall be moving them to my bedroom later ;)where i will create a little tomb for the display and it will probably sit gathering dust for the next 40 years,but i will treasure it always.

Oh NoReins, this is so not fair!  You want your DVD, you need your DVD!!!  Hope it's not too long before you get it.   :-\

I watched it last night.  Would you believe that this viewing had me crying longer and harder than any of the million other times I've watched it?  I usually start filling up during the alleyway scene, but this time I started during the SNIT scene, and pretty much carried on crying until the credits.  It just hit me the impossible sadness of the story, of Ennis and Jack's love, and I completely lost it!   :'(  :'(  :'(

I watched some of the extras too which are good.  I have only ever seen the making of documentary, so the other features were a nice surprise. Still wants lots of deleted scenes/outtakes though.

How lucky were you, Jennis?  My ASDA had NOTHING, no display, no posters, nothing.  Just BBM on the "new releases" shelf.  I was a little disappointed, but at least I had the copy in my hand.   I have to admit to feeling slightly jealous of you, getting a display stand for a film on the day it's released!!!!  They obviously could tell you were a BBM obsessive!

The pictures of the display are fantastic, btw.  I hope you get to show everyone here.....they will love them.   ;)

It's a shortening of Associated Dairies (it was founded in 1965 by a group of farmers).

Got mine too,i even phoned Christie when i was in ASDA as i knew we were getting them from the same store.They gave me the whole display unit too ;D

Hugs from one happy
Jennis.x who feels terribly guilty for smiling over a cardboard display as my family and i have had a difficult few weeks.But i hope i will be forgiven just this once.

I hope you get to show everyone here.....they will love them.   ;)
I would love too,but i can't.I don't use an image host.I could email them if anyone wants to see.I absolutely love it though and it's still in my front room :) Shame your ASDA didn't have one.Have you tried anywhere else?

YIPEEE!!!!!!!!  My UK DVD came in the mail today ;)  Strange, however, that the listed running time is 129 minutes and not 134.  Even with the PAL/NTSC standards difference in encoding the DVD, I don't think it would amount to a 15 minute difference... ???  ANyone know if the UK version is edited down?  I'll have to watch it this weekend and see

PAL DVDs run 4% faster than the original movie - it's only 5 minutes shorter. But it's 5 minutes faster, so it's not cut. Just faster...

I tried the movie out today.  Not only is it a little faster (The pitch of the voice is noticeably higher), but I think the fact that our AC runs on 60Hz as opposed to the European 50Hz makes it speed up even more!  I do like the liner inside the case that the US version doesn't include, and also the scene selections have a cool "flying papers" clip depicting the different scenes.  The main menu doesn't come up properly however - has anyone noticed this?  I got a kick out of the "descriptive" audio track.

My main menu works fine, but the special features menu takes ages to work properly ??? I watched the Logo special last night and when it finished, it didn't go back to the menu - just to a black screen. Not a huge issue, really, but I've never had that happen to me on any other DVD.
Title: Descriptive audio on the UK DVD...
Post by: rdx on Aug 25, 2010, 03:14 PM
[Moderators, feel free to consider whether this post is worth of posting at all; I think it should be kept, at least, within the member zone]

The UK DVD has a special feature that I haven't heard before: a descriptive audio track.

(https://ennisjack.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fkcanig.blu.livefilestore.com%2Fy1pi3Yg5K6ADPA5D3xNXVNltKH3DGv4LgJC6sseYQ1e6c6QnBcKO3XkUGXBAG3An25ORwuJWItZLNJEK6iNpbPf90BTFYuTQEiE%2Fda_dvd_uk.jpg&hash=0ebb3ecbf72428c73a7e92749058731cce4dc18d)

Nothing is the same anymore... #) especially FNIT and SNIT.. #s}

Warning: contains adult sounds.

Download a sample of FNIT here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/enz2b5), fnit.mp3 (1.7 MB; sorry for the large file size & 'silent' quality).

Please, do consider before listening: do not spoil your illusion, memory, recollection... :s)

It was almost like technical manual.  :8 :8 :8 The last bit of silence is appropriate because even the English is at a lost for word to describe that ultimate moment of passion and bliss.  :t) Again rdx. No disrespect intended. I assure you. I love watching the UK soaps (Coronation Street, East Enders, Emmerdale, Hollyoak) for the very reason that I love the accent, and also because they have the best writers with the most interesting storylines and character development. All these shows have great stories of gay characters.  <^(

The particular narrator for Brokeback Mountain was just funny. "...displaying their respects to each other..." Is that like "...show me yours and I will show you mine..."  :P But no pressing down please.  :^^) :c)
