Topic: Would you change the sex scenes and, if so, how...?

I do think that BBM calls for a great deal of maturity to be properly appreciated.  But I suspect that a lot of adults don't have the requsite maturity, and that is a pity.  For some of them, the sex scenes might have been unpleasant -- this owing kore to prejudice than to true understanding that it's about love and not the sexual act per se.

I think that,letting apart the fact of some more love's gestures when olders,the movie has the scenes that it must have to result equilibrated enough.It's a love story,a unlucky love story that must be appreciated like this,with all its nuances, not a seudo-porn movie to satisfy some people's libido-there're many other films to this...-.Ang himself said once that if he had added some hotter scenes or prolongate the already done with more sex,some people would have been very happy,but that he had abused of his actors and had changed for bad the spirit of the story.And I agree with him...

Lee was obviously searching for the balance. the result is pretty much good, and as I said  - quite enough for an average moviegoer. Anyway IMO there is a lack of intimacy, especially in their later years, and brutally interrupted scenes on Brokeback.

When I think over and over, I realise that Lee's scenes had an effect on viewer mind. Keeps the story going, and make us contemplate about the events in between two scenes! Hm... he had his point!

I think of the motel scene, Ennis laying on Jack.  Jack's arm around him as Ennis caresses it.  any barriers Ennis had were dropped.  Ennis in a vulnerable state thinking a simple punch ended it, and Jack thinking  brokeback was alive again, and got them good.  It was all mental and emotional after that. The pull these two had for each other, and  then yanking it away,  it amazes me that they could keep this up for twenty years. And without one or the other going nuts, or one killing the other.  This was their life, and what kept them alive. It took fate to end it, a bad tire, or a mob take your pick.  It went so far beyond the sex act, or how many times they got to do it.  jmo.

  I think y'all are probably right.  Ang did use a good balance.  I hope they did have intimacy in their later yrs., as I think they did.  I did wonder why they weren't closer together in the final tent scene.

The maturity of the approach is that is integrates the sex scenss so beautifully to the development of the characters and the story.  They are not superfluous or added to just titillate.  They are essential to the story.

Your post makes me think of the whole sex vs. love idea, too - and you put it so well, manhattangirl - because obviously Jack does pursue sexual relations with other men, but as more of a physical need, not a deep and soul-stirring love that he shares with Ennis.  Now that I look back on it, I think if there HAD been many more sex scenes added to the movie, it would have detracted from the bigger theme of unconditional love and made it more of a physical thing.  The connectedness the two men had with each other - that's what is at the heart of the relationship - and what should be at the heart of any lasting relationship.  I posted somewhere else that I love to picture Ennis and Jack growing old together, and not even needing to talk - just completely comfortable with one another, sharing a cigarette, an occasional nuzzle (LOVE that) and knowing that they've each found the soulmate they've been looking for.

You're right,but maybe thinking over it,this lack of intimacy in the later years is nothing more but "another kind of intimacy",I mean;they have arrived to a point of understanding each other Even without talking,a fully shared comfort,both emotionally,sexually and psychologically speaking.The simple fact of being together after so many years is a sample of this intimacy,that one can feel,not necessarily see...Even if some affection gestures more were appreciated,they're beyond all this at this point,I don't know if I'm explaining well enough...
As regards to the "brutally interrupted scenes on Brokeback",I suppose you're referring to the love struggle after SNIT-because the others,IMO,aren't so,but logically not shown in their totality...-.Well,I've always thought that we watch this scene so because Ang wants to compare the two boys idyllic world of love and freedom on the mountain with what is hoping to both of them when they come down;the representant of this world of intolerance and denies is Aguirre,no?,who is spying them and putting a sudden end not to the scene itself,but to the way we're watching it,with love and empathy towards them.I think it's cut the way it must be;Ang doesn't do anything without a "because"...

I certainly think that the physical need was still there, and I think that the need continued to remain intense -- not just for Jack, but for both of them.

It just so happened that Ennis was more austere in the practice and expressions of his desire.

Ennis' jealousy was so powerful but at the same time touching. He looked as a hurt, who is so innocent that can not believe that his best friend can cheat on him and expresses all his aggressiveness.  After Jack told him he's been with other men, he broke completely. Killer scene!

Well, you'll be really surprized with what happens here- All of the kissing, romantic, nuditiy and sex scenes are cencored (obviously) but NONE of the GRAPHIC violence is! Like- Brokeback Mountain got BANNED while The Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE is show uncencored on TV!

Let's allow homocide and death via fast, colorful cars with tight spoilers on the back - but let's ban the love between members of one sex because clearly it's not as natural.
