About the SNIT scene, I couldn't agree more! 

Even so, between E&J was not only love but also an enormous lust! Not being with Ennis for so long time, Jack was feeding his lust with another men, but it was never the same, cause he and Ennis had a special bond - friendship, understanding and love! They first match their souls, and then their bodies. And that's the only way I can accept this relationship!

Anyway, we were just joking in the previous posts!

About the SNIT scene, I couldn't agree more! 

Even so, between E&J was not only love but also an enormous lust! Not being with Ennis for so long time, Jack was feeding his lust with another men, but it was never the same, cause he and Ennis had a special bond - friendship, understanding and love! They needed nothing to say, nothing to explain, nothing to think about, just let it happen and enjoy. OMG! How lovely and sexy!

If I may add, I don't think of their sexual intimacy as mere part of their love - I believe that it had a stronger influence on them, then it's shown in the movie. SS was more into it! Of course, that doesn't change the strong bound of their souls, and altogether what we got is neverending Ennis&Jack love!

THis comment may look flippant, but I do seriously bring this up.  In fact, a lot of the mainstream sex scenes are glossed over in an auditory sense -- many of them are presented with only some background music to accompany the actions...

I do agree that love was the primary mover, and the beauty of the sex scenes are there to be a reflection of that love -- even if in a clumsy fashion, as in FNIT.

Not necessarily words -- it could be wordless sounds of love-making...

If I may say, love-making sounds are as different as people who make love... Ennis just couldn't make some normal sounds as it's an reflex of his inner state. And we all know how his inner state was unstrung! So, I' don' find that part so strange. Jack as well as Ennis was restrained... not as much as Ennis, but surely he wasn't 100% open to making love with Ennis. Well, at least I think so!

Yeah BM, as I already said, the more I watch the movie, intimate scenes are getting shorter and shorter... I also needed more! not such a brutal interuption!

When I watch the scenes of them together I look at the way Jack grabs Ennis's arm in the FNIT, to pull him closer into him.  I think of  in the SNIT the way Ennis caresses Jack.  I think of the reunion scene when in front of god and everybody Ennis couldn't contain himself himself and slaps Jack's hat off his head and kisses him more passionately then he ever kissed Alma, or when their in the motel room and Ennis lays in Jack's arms, obliviously spent, and at peace. 

These scenes in itself are so moving, and so emotionally charged as close to showing love between two men, as pure as simple as any love scene between men and women.  It could be argue it could be longer, but why? When it hit us that first split second on seeing it, that these two were in love, and "we know the rest". JMO

But it was supposed to be a "quickie, correct?  I think the feeling the director wanted to convey was hurried and a rather clumsy passion.    If you don't mind me saying so, it is like a first-timer climaxing prematurely, without consideration for where the partner was...

I could envision the SNIT to be longer, but I agree with you as far as the other scenes are concerned.  In those scenes, speed and capturing the moment was essential to encapsulatye their excitement and even recklessness.  To have prolonged it would have meant losing this edge.

Likewise, to elongate it would have been like turning the quite lyrical into Morse code.

SNIT was covered with a music, and it took me a while until manage to I hear Jack saying "come on!" just before "provoke" Ennis to kiss him. Still, I believe the music cover was there to express their feeling, which I reckon they still couldn't let loose. Ennis was suppressed a lot, even not knowing what to do and why doing it? He only knew that he just has to enter the tent. Anything that happened later, was an adventure for him. Jack, on the other side was easy going, but still looking at Ennis's eyes try to figure out where he's standing. What Ennis wants, will he totally give over? When he saw that Ennis is not going to run away, he gently invited him for a kiss and embrace.

I strongly believe that both of them were scared of their feelings, so restrained, facing the emotions never expected to happen, that they dare not to produce any louder sound. Even their first kiss was so loud, that they kept silent for a while. Then Jack comforted Ennis saying him even 3 times that it's alright, everything they do is alright. Maybe at that moment they were Finally relaxed, but BBM soundtrack has covered their sounds, and that did not sound bad IMO ....

They were going to relieve themselves that night in the tent, but I think their lack of initial sounds represent a quiet soul searching and discovering. -- imagine someone at a winery taste testing different sophisticated wines. The timing and/or rapture of the "quick" passionate scenes is what effectively incorporates them into the bigger picture, yes? They could have easily been diluted or overshadowed..

I've said before that SNIT reaches farther than any sugar coated Hollywood love scene I've seen. It's so down to earth yet it's playing Tennis with Mars as it's ball!

It's just that I'd like to see more of their intimate scenes and THEN  judge about the right time to cut of ... and I would watch them a few thousand time before the final decision....
