My repeated review of this scene in slo-mo sound indicates to me the following:
"Our husbands ain’t the least bit interested in dancin’. They ain’t got a smidgen a’ rhythm between ‘em."
'Course Lashawn is doin' whut she does best here - talk - without actually thinkin' much - IMHO. Don't know 'bout Randle, but compared to the other offerings at this benefit, it would seem that Jack Twist was demonstratin' plenty a' rhythm.

All this talk of rhythm got me wondering...the screenplay sure got more than a few lines of beautiful irony in it.

"They ain't got a smidgen of rhythm between them."

"Texans don't drink coffee?"

"...got balls the size of apples."

The look on Jack's face dancing with Loreen while the song plays...

"You can kiss the bride, and if you don't I will."

I will have to keep a record of 'em when I watch the movie again. Something to distract me from all 'em tears.  :(

Thus, I'm gonna repeat my question - can anyone besides me and Loreen - hear Jack saying 'Come' before kissing Ennis in SNIT? It wasn't before yesterday that I heard it.

As far as I know, it doesn't show on (any) subtitles.

Just for your information & technocratic observations :i :

the subtitles in this scene on the North American DVD(s) [undoubtedly the most realiable source] are as follows:






The subtitle lines are placed on the speaker's side. On the Blu-ray they are centered.

I, a non-native-speaker, must say that I do need to 'stretch my imagination' a little bit to hear Jack saying "Lie back. Come on".

It took me thousands of times to hear 'Come'ere", I wonder how many times it will take for me to here 'lie back'  (:*

I got a question and didn't really know where to post this



What does (I presume) Jack say at about 18 seconds? Something about working and drinking together? I know it's not in the final movie, but I'm curious

Kitty, I hear "since we're goin' be workin' together, I reckon it's time we start drinkin' together". The line is in all the earlier scripts and comes directly after Jack says "Nice to know you, Ennis Del Mar." Obviously it was filmed but dropped by the final cut.

It's retention in the trailer is a little odd but not as odd as the inclusion in the trailer of the (cut) sneering mechanics scene.

You're right, Kitty, it is odd. As you point out, he's wearing the ring at the dinner table, not wearing it on the dance floor and then is wearing it again when he's chatting with Randall outside.

I've just checked the Call Sheets to see if they provide any clues - for instance, was the scene shot over two days - but they don't. Shooting of the interior scene took up part of one day - Wednesday, July 28, 2004, to be exact - so there would be no reason for Jake G. to take off the ring during the shooting of this scene. You know, I don't think Jack would've done it. He wasn't Ennis and Jack knew that, I guess he was just frustrated (I know the feeling :-\\).
I don't think he could've replaced Ennis, he loved him too much, and even if he'd tried, I don't think it woul've worked, it's not what his heart wanted...

The Water Walking Jesus scene...you know how Ennis asks about the Pentecost, and Jack says he thinks "fellas like you and me march off to hell"?

Well I didn't know what the Pentecost was, so I looked it up, and I found this:

Something I noticed...you know the YEEHAW! scene where they talk about their families, that starts with Jack flicking his belt buckle? When he sits down and pours some whiskey into Ennis' cup, he starts talking about his dad, keep watching both of them when he says "Never taught me a thing, never once came to see me ride" he and Ennis both lift their bottle/cup and take a drink at EXACTLY the same time!

It sure made me giggle ;D

I'm seriously starting to think that the Randall thing was a set-up :s)

1) The first time Jack and Lureen meet him and LaShawn is at that dance, yet Randall's talking about going away somewhere?

2) Lureen knows Jack has a fishing buddy (Ennis), but she, like Alma, must have noticed that no fish were brought back.

3) Don't you think it's a strange coincidence that Randall mentions fishing, of all things? With Lureen knowing about Jack's "fishing" buddy?

4) If Lureen was suspicious of Jack and Ennis, perhaps she was paying Randall to, I dunno, get close to Jack and confirm her suspicions that Jack is gay?

5) I never got the impression that Lureen liked LaShawn all that much, yet she gets her out of the way - to give Randall the opportunity to move in on Jack?

6) When Ennis calls Lureen, she doesn't exactly seem like a grieving widow, and she seems to realise exactly who she's talking to


My conclusion? Lureen was suspicious that Jack was gay, and cheating on her. She pays Randall to act of a like mind, and get close to Jack. She finds out Jack plans to leave her for him, and sets the tire iron guys on him.
It could have been a set up, and Jack, being as heartbroken as he was over Ennis, fell for it :-\\

I'm a Psychology student, so it's little wonder I'm thinking on this so much ;D

Okay, when Ennis pulls Jack's jeans down and spits into his hand and, well ya know :P
you hear him gasp, then Jack gasps, then Ennis gasps again and then I think Jack says F**k, then Ennis gasps again and Jack says "me", I'm sure it's there (^)
