Topic: Jack Flicking his belt buckle

Hi

Just wanted to point out one of my favourite scenes is when Jack, returning from having a piss, flicks at his belt buckle.  I thought it was a very amusing and quite flirty thing to do (and Jake did it brilliantly).  Does anyone know what the significance of it is? My guess is it is to show Jack's personality but I thought there were other overtones to it.  Any ideas?

I think it is one of those things boys do to impress, like when they drive a really hot car or something like that, to impress a woman (or think they impress us  ) Jack was trying to impress Ennis. IT worked lol

He was showing off and at the same time, putting "it" out there for Ennis. Jack was flirt, no doubt.

The belt buckle fllick was a great piece of work, and yes, he was showing off the buckle, but I'd say he wanted Ennis to be looking at more than the buckle (teeheehee).  Belt buckles are awarded in horse shows, and I would assume rodeos, too.

Notice at thanksgiving, when he is taking the turkey out that his buckle is more flashy and shiny, like everything else around him after he massies Laureen. Still it's the 20 year old shirts that is the treasure

Jack obviously liked rodeo. He kept talking about it. I mean if I liked something, I would naturally showed it off like a little kid.
But I found it funny about the scene where he took a leak... I guess it tied in together nicely, Jack thought about the belt and decides to show off to Ennis, at least to get him to talk.

I took it that he was showing of a rodeo belt (just after that is when they talk about rodeo cowboys)...but you know it sure did seem kind of flirty....that could definitely have had something to do with it!

You know what?  Jack is a slut...no two words 'bout it.  That's one thing I didn't like 'bout the movie, the way Jack was portrayed as hunting down men just like how he hunted (seduced) Ennis...using that same charming approach.    if you look at it on surface, Jack seduced every other man just like how he seduced Ennis...therefore, Ennis wasn't anything special, just another number-at-first.  It just happened that in the event of his prowl, he fell in love with Ennis.

I see Jack's actions as nothing more than "check this out Bud!"  It probably was a rodeo or cowboy award of some type. I've never seen this action as anything more than trying to impress Ennis on some level. Guys do that with each other.  I didn't really see it as flirting.
