Topic: The Shirts on ebay

It would be nice to be able to see them in person one day, along with other memorabilia from the movie. I hope that becomes a reality. Anyway, I am glad that someone who really will cherish them won the bidding.

This guy can't loose and I am so happy for him. The value of the shirts will only go up and he sounds like the right sort of person to own them. As a dealer of antiques and collectibles for some years I knew immediately that this item, and it is 1 item, should go far. I expect it to end up in the Smithsonian  some day. It's where it belongs.

I hope the Smithsonian guys will reconstruct the same closet scene with the postcard thumbnailed... :'(

Tom Gregory just spent more than $100,000 on two used cowboy shirts. And he couldn't be happier. The shirts are the ones worn by the ill-fated lovers, played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, in Oscar front-runner "Brokeback Mountain."

The shirts that represent their relationship. The shirts that, to Gregory, represent the ongoing plight of gays for acceptance in society.

"They really are the ruby slippers of our time," said Gregory, 45.

A longtime gay activist, Gregory plans to keep the shirts "as they were, on the hanger, entwined."

"I would never wear them, put them on, or separate them," he said.

Gregory collects signed celebrity photos from Hollywood's golden age, but this is his first foray into movie props. Focus Features, distributor of "Brokeback Mountain," donated the two shirts, which were sold on the auction Web site ebay.com to benefit Variety The Children's Charity of Southern California.

Gregory logged his winning bid $101,100.51 just 28 seconds before the 10-day auction came to a close on Monday.

"There is no buyer's remorse," he said, characterizing the purchase as "the most fun thing I ever bought."

He is on  mid way through the show, and talks about the money he spent, and how he feels about the shirts--he brought them with him and shows them on camera too.

I did something like this once.  For me before Jack and Ennis there was Jack and Jen ... I used to really like Jack off Dawon's Creek.  It was funny ... as the series was released I was exactly the same age as the characters and the whole coming out thing was a kinda this is how it goes holding your hand kinda thing.  The program offered me lots of support when I was scared and lonely.

Anyhow after it ended they aucrtioned off all the set and clothing.  In seasons Five and Six Jack had this really nice leather jacket that I used to admire him in.  Anyway ... it went on ebay and I bought it from Sony Pictures Entertainment ... cost me £250 for a Versace jacket and it was worth every penny.

Or I could shave one tiny skin cell off the US military budget, and buy the shirts and get the boys to model them, and build a wing at the Smithsonian.  I also thought, when I first heard of this sale, that they should go to the Smithsonian.  Our military budget wouldn't even notice the loss.
