And Best Picture goes elsewhere?  Can we handle it?
He pressed his face into the fabric and breathed in slowly through his mouth and nose, hoping for the faintest smoke and mountain sage and salty sweet stink of Jack but there was no real scent, only the memory of it, the imagined power of Brokeback Mountain of which nothing was left but what he held in his hands. Make the pledge! Go Back to Brokeback whenever, however you can. Join the BTB Project.

I will have a Breakdown, truly it would show how narrow minded the Hollywood elite still are and have bigotry in their agenda, may as well just shoot me and get it over with, for the love of GOD, have we not learned that the 21th century is upon us, and we are One and the same, this is nonsense if they don't give recognition the BBM, what is the sense of all this effort in awakening Love in its purest of form being good for?

I am prepared for the revenge if the unthinkable happens.

1. I will start a campaign to the Oscar

2. Oscar will be erased from my life because it really shows how worthless it is.

It will break my heart but it is not going take any bit less how I feel about BBM. To me, BBM has been a winner.

The Oscar goes to ....................Brokeback Mountain (vo) Accepting the award are the producers James Schamus and Diana Osana

I know everyone here wishes that BBM gets the recognition that we feel it deserves.  However, in the grander scheme, it does not change what the movie is, or what it has done, whether or not it wins some award as deemed by a panel of judges.  If it wins every award, great.  If it wins no awards, big deal.  It will still stand as a defining point in my life.  It doesn't matter to me what this movie means to others.  It's what it represents to me that matters the most.  And it is perhaps the finest movie I have ever seen.

Having said that, I'm still crossing my fingers.

Should the unthinkable happen, I will be inconsolable for days, perhaps weeks.  :'(  No sense in trying to pretend that it doesn't matter, because it will matter.  The Hollywood voting community must recognize that BBM is this year's absolute best.  If they cannot, then the Oscars will become irrelevant from my perspective.

My appreciation of BBM will never diminish; regardless of the outcome.
A reminder Brokies...there is no known cure for PBS.  It's merely managed.

Well put kindred, my sentiments exactly.  I was so excited by the BAFTA's and am looking forward to the Oscars, but if it picks up nix them who cares. In Jake's winning BAFTA speech I think he was expressing that he ( and probably every other person involved in making this movie) got more from this film than any award could ever give.   OK winning an Oscar will do great things for their careers, but this has done more for their social standing.

But Heath, Jake, Michelle, Ann, Ang, Larry, Diana, Gustavo, editors, electricians, costumiers, gaffers, grips, sound and light engineers, producers, cinematographers, and all involved  -  I hope you all know this, if you don't never know the rest.....you have won the love and respect and praise of many people throughout the world.  If your efforts are not recognised by the academy then screw 'em, you've made this little man happy.

I will be watching and hoping and if it all goes wrong I stiil live in a better world for having seen it and I still have you guys at ennisjack.com to come
home to.

I am both dreading oscar night and looking forward to it. I hope and pray for BBM to get the recognition it deserves, i might drown myself in vodka if it doesn't, but like others have said on this thread, awards or not, nothing can or will ever take away the sheer wonder of this story for me, its MY defining love story and forever will be. Gawd bless you BBM!!

i think Brokeback mountain has already won... the hearts of millions of people in the world
Who are the people who vote in Hollywood? Are they more important or more intelligent than all the people who are here, in this forum, expressing the million things this movie has caused to them?
Can any movie achieve a greater aim or award?
If the osacr is not for BBM I'll be really sorry, but the most important award for me is to see how so many people from so many different places are here sharing all these opinions, confessions, and even personal likes.
What else do you need?

flazahies, it is my view exactly. Thank you. These voters defiinitely do not represent us nor are more important or intelligent than all the people in the forum. Nevertheless, it is great to get the recognition.

Exactly!  It is the winner.  It's interesting to look at the "best picture" Oscar over the decades and see some of the clunkers that have won.  And then there are the ones that STILL stand up.  BBM will go down in history for so many reasons.  It already won.

Nearly 20 years ago I saw the film Maurice  with James Wilby, Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves, As a gay man I identified with thr subject matter, but not the time it was set (early 1900's). Like BBm Iwas sobbing at the end because Grant's character favours respectability over love. The look in his eyes when he realises what he could have had when he sees the happiness on Maurice's face stayed with me for years. The memories of that movie stayed with me forever , locked up beside me in my closet. I aways considered it ONE of my favourite movies.

The point is that the feelings that BBM instilled in me swamped that of Maurice a hundred times over. If I can still feel like that after 20 years for Maurice, the feelings BBM has gave me will stay with me to the grave.  BBM is not ONE of my favourite movies....it IS my favourite.

So awards or not, who cares. I want it to win everything of course because it will gain a larger audience and create more Brokies, but if it doesn't win it will live on and on more than any film or actor or director etc that may beat it this year.

I will have a fit, have a breakdown, and go completely insane and become completely enraged.. haha

when i asked my one of my fellow bbm obsessed friends "what if brokeback mountain doesn't win best picture"  she said this, in a calm, cool and relaxed voice:

"Well, if that happens.. we'll just take a deep breath, smile, and say 'I'm sure that movie was wonderfully made, congratulations', then we will walk slowly and calmy towards the phone, pick it up, get the list of all the voting memebers from the acadamy, hire a hit man, and justice will preveil."

HAHAHA, i did not say this.. nor would i promote it.. but the way she said it made me literally laugh out loud! AHAHA!

First BBM, and Heath, Michelle, Jake, everything that got nominations will ALWAYS be referred to as
Acadamy Award nominee:Brokeback Mountain
Best Actor Award Nominee, Heath Ledger....etc etc etc

They are already made whether or not they actually win the statue. Forever they will linked to it.

25 years from now---people will NOT be able to tell you who won the Oscar for.......???????.....
BUT they will still be talking about Brokeback mountain.
just like STreetcar Named Desire, and a lot of the truly great films---win or not---no one links the year they won, they just talk about the movie and the stars.
They didn't give Brando the Oscar for Streetcar---he had to wait till Godfather
But NO ONE has forgotten either movie or Brando himself.

So will it be with BBM---this movie has gone so deep into people, and when we can have the dvd it will go deeper yet--it will never be forgotten, so win or lose---really doesn't matter--cause it already has a life of its own, and will be imortal. just my own thought on it.

No, no , no:

they will remember and they will say it was that awesome movie called Brokeback Mountain, speaking to our grandkids and telling them that we have kept a dvd that they can play on the old dvd player we still have in our retirement home, or they will be able to see it via tivo or some ingenious technology as the movie has just been re-released with enhance imagery as it makes its way into the vault of Classic movies to be safeguarded
