He DOES say 'later'. To me that's because Jack clearly wants to carry on kissing - that way he won't leave go of Ennis and tries to focus on his mouth shows that, I think. But Ennis knows they have to go and see Alma so he murmurs, 'later' to assure Jack they aren't done yet and they'll carry on later ... and then he drags himself away reluctantly!

21 Viewings and I miss hearing Ennis saying "later." :o :o
Apparently I've been so blown away by the kiss and the head nuzzle I missed
an important detail in this scene. Gotta go see it again!

i know people may not want to use the clips available on some web sites.

on the youtube .com site they have scenes from the movie . in the one i've watched most recently " ennis and jacks best moments" you can hear it quite clearly i think--- but its not in the screen play and prob wont be sub titled but i swear i hear it clearly x1 and believe he mumbles it a second time as he pulls away.

i also think he mumbles "come'ere" as he pushes jack against the wall but really not sure bout that.

I didn't catch it at all at the movies.

There is something to me so sexy about the scene where Ennis is just holding Jack from behind. It's just so beautiful and tender and romantic, not leading to sex, but to me, it's just for the pure enjoyment of being close to the one you love. Ennis had really let his defenses down at this moment, evethough I know he wasn't looking at Jack and there are so many more implications that have been and can be discussed. This was one time where Ennis was the initiator. And I just think this moment is very romantic and sexy.

One other thing about this scene --- in the story , Ennis and Jack take 20 mins from leaving the flat to be in the motel room , "jouncin the bed" They'd also bought whiskey.

pretty quick work

That must have been some ride to the motel , and one fine example of getting reacquainted.

This reunion kiss scene tells us a lot about these two young actors. Would two straight men perform an open-mouth kiss for the camera? Yes they would, if they were Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. Two men dedicated to their acting profession....dedicated to their characters....dedicated to the movie...dedicated to their director and dedicated to us, the viewer. They wanted realism and it couldn't have been more real if they were, in fact, in love with each other in real life.

I have said it several times and I can not help but say it again; we have been privileged to see the best performance ever seen on the silver screen in our lifetime. I just love these two guys to pieces. I have so much respect for them it goes far beyond words.

That would be so great...I hear people use "Brokeback" all the time on TV now, the other day it was that Seacrest guy from E!
Brokeback has made an impact and is there to stay.
