I forgot, but somewhere on the site it tells you that the film was shot in Alberta, Canada.  And somewhere else on a messageboard, i heard it was shot just outside of Calgary, Canada.   Probably more places too, not sure.  But im curious to find out just like all of you guys heh.

Hmm ever since this movie came out, I think people are gonna start naming they're sons & daughters Ennis, Jack, and Alma, and Lureen.  Heh, how cool is that?

They could do the southeastern US thing and combine the names too:  Almalureen, Ennisjack.

A little more on names...  Brokeback Mountain is a fictional place.  I know there has been some discussion about the name Brokeback and it's connotations and I just remember this one:  The Ballad of the Sad Cafe  novella by Carson Mccullers  In this novel is the only other time I have heard the term brokeback.  In this case it is used disparagingly toward a humpback dwarf ( who happens to be in love with the protagonists husband.

Here is what Amazon.com  says: ...the title work in a collection of short stories, published in 1951. Peopled with bizarre and grotesque characters, the novella has a folkloric quality and is considered one of the author's best works. Amelia Evans, a tall and lonely woman, falls passionately in love with her cousin Lymon, a malevolent dwarf. Amelia opens a cafe that serves as a much-needed social outlet for their tiny Southern town. Lymon falls in love with Amelia's estranged husband, Marvin Macy, who has just been released from prison. Lymon and Macy overpower Amelia physically and wreck her cafe, after which they disappear together, leaving Amelia and the townspeople without hope.

Ennis means "Island"..I read that somewhere..you know how much reading we do about BBM..cannot remember where..Proulx knows what she is doing..

The names of people in Annie Proulx work remind me of another author who had a penchant for unusual namesof characters: Charles Dickens.

Somehow, and I can't explain why, whenever I hear Lake Woebegone I confuse it with Lake Winnipeg.  In which case, if I were not confused, it might just be near Brokeback Mountain.  Huh!

Here in the Philippines, the name Alma is very common, I also have a schoolmate with  a last name of  "del Mar". However, in the US probably its non existent or rarely u can find someone with that name.

The name Alma is quite common her in thw Philippines, like wise i know someone with a last name of "del Mar". In US u rarely find someone with the name.

Is Ennis last name "del Mar"  a Latin name?
"Del Mar" are two Italian or Spanish words meaning litterally  "of the sea"...  joining the name "Ennis" which means in ireland "island".. the final meaning will be "island of the sea"....... this may represent that Ennis was so isolated and close in himself... such an island of the sea!!!
