Did you notice in the story, at the reunion, when Ennis notes 'Resistol tilted back', about Jack's hat. This is what the web says about these hats :
As the official Western hat sponsor of the PRCA, Resistol Hats’ sponsorship dates back to 1959 and its sponsorship of the first National Finals Rodeo.
The famous hat company has long rewarded the efforts of first-year contestants through its title sponsorship of the Resistol Rookie of the Year program. The awards are based on earnings of rookie PRCA members. Rookies who win the most money in each of the seven PRCA events, the all-around category and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel racing collect bonuses and a specially engraved trophy belt buckle at the conclusion of each season. Each rookie also receives a certificate good for a Resistol Black Gold hat.
Resistol provides a bonus and a hat for the Overall Rookie of the Year award, which is reserved for the rookie who earns the most total money during the year. All Rookie of the Year awards are presented during the Wrangler NFR. Since 1956, 27 PRCA Rookies of the Year have gone on to become PRCA world champions. The Resistol Rookie of the Year trophy is on permanent display at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy in Colorado Springs, Colo., with the winners’ names engraved on a plaque below.
In addition to the Resistol Rookie of the Year program, Resistol also is a sponsor of the Wrangler NFR, the National Finals Steer Roping, all 12 Circuit Finals Rodeos and the DNCFR.
Resistol Hats is a division of Hatco, Inc., the largest manufacturer of headwear in the world.
I wonder if Jack got his like this, or if he had to buy his?
