Not sure it was made intentionally LOl, but it's a great detail thanks!

Yes, it's one of those things one can never really be sure.

But the number 17,  I feel that it does stand for BBM, numerologically speaking...

Jack Sneaks a Peak!!
right after the Ennis says: "...didn't rodeo much... he thought all rodeo cowboys was all f*** ups"
right before Jack says: "The hell they are,"  look at Jack sneaks a quick peek at Ennis' goodies.
Remember Ennis is sitting a cross from him legs wide open, and you see Jack's eye quickly glance down crotch level, then UP to look Ennis in the eye was he swigs from his whiskey bottle.
Ennis does have a cup in his hand, but Jack's eyes goes lower than that.... check it out...

What is that blue ink on Ennis' left wrist?  I've noticed it before but forget to ask if anyone knows what it is?

I think it is Heath's tattoo. He's got one on his wrist.  :D

That would make sense!  I keep trying to figure out what it is & didn't even think about that!

If you also notice (as discussed in an old thread), the bar you see here is JT's Bar.

I read in another thread somewhere someone mentioning that Ennis doesn't walk beside Jack on the way to the bar, he walks BEHIND him.  Not only is he behind him, he isn't even on the sidewalk...he's walking in the parking lot...you can see him pass on the OUTSIDE of the posts in front of the bar.  Just noticed that the other night after watching nine times in the theater on the BIG screen, and umpteen times on DVD.  Its funny what you pick up with repeated viewings  ;D

In this shot you can barely see the simple gold wedding ring on Ennis's hand.  I think it was the shot right before this that we see them from the other side.  And when Jack's hand comes up to Ennis's face, you see that he's wearing a much more elaborate ring, flashier.

The quick flashes of their wedding rings in this reunion scene seem to be another way to show the different in their circumstances, finance wise, I think, which gets more obvious as their lives move on.

They are also walking in the exact same cadence.  They were meant to be together!  Their gaits match up perfectly!

It suddenly occurred to me today ( watching DVD again) that Jack always sends Ennis picture postcatrds; Ennis, practical, prosaic Ennis, always sends Jack plain ones. But at the end the one he's bought is a picture of BBM - this to me is Ennis moving into Jack's world, made brighter because of emotion.

What a beautiful thought Welshwitch!  :)

Probably someone mentioned this already somewhere, but when Ennis tells Jack about Cassie, he says she's a waitress, "wants to go to Nursing school or something."

In the short story, he says she's a waitress, but he "don't know if he wants to deal with all her problems." (quoting loosely; sorry.)

I think the reference to "nursing school" is certainly a reference to the actress, Linda Cardellini, who plays a nurse on ER.

Sort of saying that she waited tables for a while, then went to nursing school, and became a nurse. Not really logical--the character's name is Samantha on ER--but just a little smile.

Yes, Ethan, the one in th closet next to the shirts. In the short story he gets the woman at the shop to order it specially for him, and that was something of an unexpected act by Ennis. I thought.

Gosh - had never noticed that! Thanks welshwitch for pointing that out, knowing what we do about the different characters of both Ennis and Jack that makes a lot of sense.

Yes I read that in the short story. But in the move I thought it is the first postcard that Jack sent him. No?

No. The first post card Ennis gets from Jack is not the one hanging in Ennis' closet.

Just looked at it - the first postcard's of somewhere called El Capitan  ( not the one in Yosemite, surely?) and Signal Peak. The print on the other is blurred but I don't think it says BBM.

Telling detail.  LOvely even in it's hint of poverty.
