The first rodeo scene involving Jack takes place in Electra, Texas.

When Jack riding a tractor at the Newsome dealership (with Bobby on his lap), you can't help but smile at it's logo - "VERSATILE".

You see the phone booth that Ennis uses to call Lureen twice--once years before he uses it (when he answers Jack's first postcard), and once when he receives the returned postcard stamped "DECEASED." Not noticeable the first time, I think, but quite clear the second: the sign over the bar next to the phone booth reads "JT's Bar."

There is a bar next to the phone booth when Ennis calls Lureen about the postcard stamped "DECEASED." The sign over the bar next to the phone booth reads "JT's Bar."

Jack says that he's is pretty good with a can opener. In the next scene, while using the can opener, he spills the food over himself.

The mailbox outside Aguirre's trailer says "Applicants".

Thank you greenfrog.  And yes, I do love the detail about VERSATILE.  :)

I've found several new details with the FS DVD  :)

First, did you notice that Alma jr scrapes the edge of her cup when asking if ennis can come to her wedding ?

pierralex, your descriptions are tantalizing, as I cannot see them right now at the office.  I shall wait to get out of work and enjoy them.  Thank you very much.

I am partuicularly curious about the horse...

It's so dark, i can't see nothing  :(
The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

I noticed tonight, the building opposite Ennis and Alma's house has a big sign on it that says ELKS ;)

This brings to mind a detail that I SO VERY MUCH wanted to work out but it didn't quite do it...

You know when Lureen is with little Bobby in bed and her parents are there?  The very end of that scene when Jack stops smiling and turns away to get the formula, there is a picture on the hallway wall over his shoulder.  It is a black silhouette picture of an elk.    The scene next cuts to Ennis driving by the ELK'S lodge and pulling into his parking place.

Unfortunately, on closer inspection, the picture on the wall in the hallway is a silhouette of a horse, not an elk.  Dang it!

OK so here you have to watch the DVD carefully because you don't see it much on the pic :
there is a fly flying on the right of jack's head, turning around again and again.... well I know, not the most interesting lol, but anyway...

I found this interesting, because I live almost right next to the Elks National Headquarters in Chicago.  The HQ is quite lavish compared to the one in the movie.  The spartan look of the lodge is a poigniant commentary to the spare atmosphere of BBM.  :)

Could this elk have something to do with roman mythology? Above: Diana, The Goddess of Hunting.

Interesting question for an interesting image.  What is the difference between a stag and an elk?  I know, this is a detail!  :)

I think a stag could be understood as a red deer and an elk more like a moos. But these are just suggestions, english sure isn't my mother tongue  ;)

Yes, that is a male deer ("stag," "hart," "buck"), which is traditionally associated with Diana. Don't think they had elk in ancient (or modern) Greece.

Yes I noticed that...I'd thought this scene was done on a soundstage, but I guess it must have really been outdoors.  The fly makes it very realiztic, don't you think?

There is also a fly on Ennis's face during that scene at one point. (Actually, it's a sort of blooper, because the fly is sometimes there, sometimes not, iirc.)

If anyone has ever visited the northern Rockies in summer, the flies and mosquitoes are BRUTAL especially in the evening.

Only recently noticed the way Jack limps when he hurries out after the unsuccessful chat-up of the barman - it bears out his later comments about being banged up and suggests how glad he was when the second bar scene involved Lureen, who provided an means of escape from an unsuccessful rodeo career.

Yes, I found this to be a a nice tough, especially since he was shown limping away after falling badly during the 3 second rodeo ride.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but unless I'm mistaken (wishful thinking) the blood-stained shirt in the closet is the same one that Heath was wearing in the second tent scene  :-[
