Close Range: Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx

I would suggest that you don't read it if you have not seen the movie. And consider buying this book to support the author

As of today, the link is no longer working.

I suggest that you purchase the book to support the author and the movie.

There are three books avaliable

Story to Screenplay is a great one - includes Proulx’s short story, McMurtry and Ossana’s screenplay and essays from all three on the process of adapting the story for the screen. I highly recommend this book. There is also a topic about this HERE

Brokeback Mountain: Now a Major Motion Picture

There is an audible version available.

The LINK will bring you to Amazon for complete list of Brokeback Mountain products including the soundtrack, short story and others.

Close Range is the book written by Annie Proulx which contains the short story of BBM.

Is it because of the BBM buzz? Many links that where posted here are no longer responding.  Too many hits maybe?   ???

I tried it as well. As I wrote though in another post I have The New Yorker with the story in it, and if anyone would like to read it let me know. : )

If you live in Europe, you can also consider buying the edition listed on Amazon.co.uk that also includes more stories from Annie Proulx and is often cheaper that the US import

"I loved it. Shocking. Surprising. The guy who financed my movie did that too. He's a very mild mannered chap from Minnesota and we'd just screened the latest cut of my film and he asked if I wanted to see it. I was thinking, 'OK, this really square, straight guy,' and he showed me this movie. It's amazing.

Thanks so much for posting this! I have been looking for a place to read the story online for quite some time now. I live in a very rural area, and so none of the bookstores or libraries around here carry it. Thanks again!

I agree with others, buy "Story to Screenplay".  You get both the short story and the screenplay besides the essays from Proulx, McMurtry and Ossana.

Then buy "Close Range" and "Bad Dirt" and read her other Wyoming based short stories.

The short story is copywrited and Annie Proulx deserves royalties for writing this brilliant story.
