The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

Saying too much...

Yeah that's TMI ;D  but it's also endearing because he's just human like the rest of us.  <^(

I love this a lot.  I love his hair shorter like this, as it shows the fine shape of his head.  I love the blue eyes/pink lips.  However, he had his brows waxed, but I'm not gonna bitch.

kathy

He probably got bad advice about the brows.  I agree with you 100%.  :)

This is very lovely picture :) :-*
I think he looks very "manly" in this.  I think he usually does look "manly" (among other things) (once he passed about 25 that is) but he looks perhaps older in this pic, like he might look at 30, and that is indeed GORGEOUS.

Yes, there is something about some of the pix (like this one) that seems to make him look more mature in age than he actually is?  Is it the clothing?  THe facial hair?  The haircult?  Or the lines on his face?  Hard to pinpoint...

Thank you Twisted and Rosie  %)

This one is hot.  The sultry eyes, the wild hair.  The "beauty mark" and the hint of fuzz just below his lower lip.  And nice light dusting of chest hair.  And everything else.  (No, I'm not obsessed with Jake -- really I'm not.)

kathy

I love your mentioning the beauty mark.

As one of the great Persian poets has said, such a mark is like a drop of ambergris on the face of the Beloved...

 <^( <^(

This pic is a great favorite of mine.  I think I have said before that I love him especially in coats and overcoats...  I think kathy said this too?

Yes, I did say that, and I do.  But in this pic, I'm all about his hair.  I'm actually jealous of his hair -- I want it for myself.

kathy

I assume you won't settle for just his hair.  ;)

Another marvelous B&W.  The play of light on his face is wonderful here...

He does have a perfect face for the deeply shadowed B/W photos.  That chiaroscuro (sp?) thing.

kathy

Yes indeed.  Caravaggio would have been thrice immortal  had he had Jake for a model.

I love it when he breathes...

But the flesh tones in colour are not to be despised ...  :)
...

Oh stop it, Tom!  Help!  I'll follow wherever you take me here, with Jake I mean.

kathy

The fleshtones in his arms and face are quite lovely in this pic.  Will you find it strange if I compare it to the colour and fragrance of ripe fruit?  Forgive me if this strikes you as a bit odd...

This pic is interesting, though, because his face doesn't look symmetrical, which is usually does.  I think it's just the turn and tilt of head and the smiling.

Isn't symmetry of features some mark of perfection?  Supposedly.  (Most people I know, including myself, our faces are NOT symmetric.)

kathy

This is true in some cultures.  The great exception is the Japanese aesthetic, where symmetry is deemed boring in many circumstances.  A thousand years ago, they would pluck out the eyebrows and paint artificial ones higher -- partly to break the regularity of the face about a person's nose.

Not still the boy but not yet the man.

kathy

I agree.  Leaning on the boy side, no?  It's the absence of strong lines that make me say this.

It's when he has this kind of look on his face that I just...am beside myself.

kathy

I know what you mean, but it is so hard to put it in words.  What makes his look in this pic so irresistible?

I don't mind him NOT having his hair...

His face is beautifully defined anyway...

Me, too.  He is equally intriguing, but different.  I just like a little hair, that's all.  Personal preference.

kathy

I love the way the fuzz defines the lower portion of the face.  I guess this is partly what makes me like the look in this pic.
