The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

I've never seen this before...there's something I really like about his expression. It's as though he's looking at you personally for some reason. And with a rather cheeky expression to boot! <^(

I LOVE this one.  And yes, Rosie, he has a way of doing that, of seeming to be looking at his audience, almost bypassing the camera.

I think that this is going to be one of my all time favourites....must try to get a copy from somewhere.... <^(
Danny and me, Danny and me,  Danny and me and the sea,
Bobbing out of Pleasure Bay, the islands on our lee;
Spectacle, Georges, Gallops, the sun-wash on the brine
Castle Island where Skovo danced a bear-dance in bear-time.
The Golden Boy has chosen, I know what I will be
Danny and me, seanchai, Danny and me and the sea.

Thanks again for the pics of the Jake God.  <^( :d)

Thanks to everyone for all the contributions.  This is a "difficult" thread to look at: too distracting.

Argh -- not what I meant!  Let's see, no, I don't want only his hair, I want all of him.  But I want to be in his genetic line so I have his hair also.

kathy

He certainly has good genes.  :)

It's of course the eyes foremost, and the softness in them.  But all the features, the "softness," the sensuality of a relaxed face, is a "come hither" look.  Something like that?

kathy

Interesting that you say this.  Sometimes his eys are so soft -- "veiled" is the word I like to use.  And there are some pix where they are on fire -- "brilliant" does not begin to describe it.

The same with his features -- sometimes, there is a hardness -- an angularity -- to them.  Other times, there is a beautiful softness...

And finally, yes: he seems to bridge the divide between him and the viewer.  We have talked about this before.

Again, I don't know what makes me like his pix where he wears caps, as I am not a cap person.  But I like the look when it's on him...

Yes, it balances, the head hair and the facial hair.  Speaking of facial hair, when a man's beard is too thick, it obscures the jawline, etc.  But when it's just fuzz, it actually defines the jawline more, and in Jake's case, this is a really good thing.

kathy

So true, kathy.  So true.  This pic is a perfect illustration of what you have said.

Not at all, cutting edge not required.  That's why he's so classy.  But it's the pattern of this suit that makes it too conservative.  The colors are fine, but the pattern and style...too old-guy for him I think.

kathy

I see what you mean.

Personally, I like all my suits black.  I guess this also puts me as a conservative.  But he looks so good in black on a white shirt...

Is that light mauve that he's wearing?   Sometimes I don't trust my eyes when it comes to colors on a computer screen...

[Exactly.  Quite the whole person.  And not typical at all.  (And apropos nothing, I think the world of his sister, too, the more I know about her.)

kathy

The world of his sister is quite fascinating.  I'm sure he enjoys it whenever he visits her.
