The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

I think anyone with a pulse should cover it Thomas  ;)

I don't think so.  Even the dead would not be impervious to his charm...

boo_boo:

This video is from the 2003 MTV awards where she & Tobey Maguire won for best kiss - she was dating Jake then.  The last line she said was, "and thanks, Jake, for being MY best kiss".

But did you notice - when she got up to accept the award, they didn't look at each other - didn't hug, didn't kiss, like most couples would.  Now we see why they're not together, although I heard she dumped him because he was a "homebody" & didn't like to party enough.  Send him to MY home any day.  Huh?

I think he is a bit more private when it comes to expressing his affection.  I don't think he really does this just for the cameras and the publicity.  Perhaps this bothered her a bit?

Anyone remember what was said to make him feel that way?

I think he was just caught off-guard, knowing that Heath was totally unprepared for this moment, and couldn't see what had to be said...

And the mole is a "beauty mark" -- and it's funny how it is in precisely the place where ladies in old glamour Hollywood used to put theirs.  In fact, I seem to recall doing that in high school with an eyebrow pencil.

kathy

The classic arab and persian poets would have gone crazy for that beauty mark.

Quite wonderful, no doubt about it.  I sure say, good for you, Jake.  Not to be afraid to do that.  (OT, but I like how in England it's always been like family entertainment, men in drag.  It doesn't have anything to do with sexuality, or any dark connotations, etc.  As far as that goes, when being gay was more in the closet here, it was even more acceptable to do drag.  Let's say people like Milton Berle, for instance.  Had nothing to do with gay.  But bringing gay out of the closet has caused men to be more afraid to be thought of as gay.  Even like the gorgeous dandies in old films, or some of the clothes that Gene Kelly wore, stuff like that.  Okay, sorry, OT, sorry.)

kathy

Jake would look so lovely in 18th century lace and silk...

Yes, he certainly does appeal to all.  Speaking of which, Robin, my friend at work, my Halloween "Jack," is on the verge of becoming a serious Jake-lover.  All of a sudden (I've been showing her some pix, etc.) she finds him the most excellent man alive just about.  And she's not a "fan" type as much as I am.  But he got to her!

kathy

I never thought of myself as a fan type most of the time, but does one have a choice when he's concerned?

No.
Danny and me, Danny and me,  Danny and me and the sea,
Bobbing out of Pleasure Bay, the islands on our lee;
Spectacle, Georges, Gallops, the sun-wash on the brine
Castle Island where Skovo danced a bear-dance in bear-time.
The Golden Boy has chosen, I know what I will be
Danny and me, seanchai, Danny and me and the sea.
